Glyphs Panel and Touch Type Tool

zoom in on that. So one of the things if I didn't have that keyboard shortcut for that bullet is I can use what's called the glitz panel. And that's where a lot of just real hidden stuff you know is if you want to do things like have the euro sign in the pound sign and you're not sure where that is, on your keyboard is using a US keyboard. It's not gonna be pretty obvious where that issue can use what's called the glimpse panel. So I went open that it's up under the window menu down under type under cliffs, and this is going to show me everything that's available to the font that I'm currently using. So I have this sitting here in myriad pro. I can change it if I want. Let's try and open this a little bit bigger. That's what it's trying to do. And in here I have all the specific glyphs that might be in this particular font, so I can see Oh, there's my pound symbol. There's a yen symbol and I even have a euro symbol. So to get that in there, I just have a flashing cursor and I'm gonna c...

ome over to the euro symbol and double click on it. All right, I'll do that. So the nice thing is, I have everything that's in that particular font. All the strange characters that might be there, all the foreign characters. So this is great. If you're typing along, for instance, you can type many, many in many different languages using even the US keyboard. If that's what you have versus Aiken type along in Spanish, I just need to know where all those hidden keys are. But if I don't know where they are, I can't remember where the E with the accent over it is. I can come into my glyphs panel and find the one. Of course, there's a 1,000,000 you know, ease with different accents or whatever, but I come along till I find the one that I need, and these aren't even it. These are not regular accent characters off. I want to type in Greek. I could do that as well, but the nice thing is, you don't have to remember where all those things are. It would be a pain, I think, to type very much in a foreign language. If you didn't know the hidden keyboard shortcuts, but let's try, and one that has some interesting items as well. This is some other ones. Some of some of the mechanical items this one says show we've got these menus. If they've broken them down into types of cliffs that air there, for instance, Um, let's go with the numerator, Zor, even old style figures. These are all the old style figures where they got the old style numbers that sit a different space on the baseline. Maybe we want something with scientific stuff. Great. Let's grab a different font. Let's actually see if one of these other ones has something else that we might need. And they've got some fractions in there as well. Double click on that. I can see that I can create any fractions that are built into that particular font. If I need to have the pill crow, I should been a good It was a good trivia question right there. What's the little paragraph thing called at the end? I forget. This is called. This is, you know, from German. But we have all these different items. Here are things we use all the time registered trademark copy and the trade. Marcus. Well, if you can't remember the keyboard shortcut, which I can never remember, the keyboard shortcut for copyright ever. But it's there, I can do it. But if I can't remember if I could go to the glyphs panel and put that in a swell all right, so we can do that. We can also create sets of glyphs, which are nice. Um, we can use them again and again. But if you can't find something or you don't know what the keyboard shortcut is for it, including the bullet, although Bullet is actually pretty hard to find, in my opinion. So maybe it's just easier to remember the keyboard shortcut for that. But again, there's certain things I can't remember where they are. It's in the cliff panel, and I don't have a lot of good examples. I do have this one font that I know is mostly cliffs, and it is called type embellishments. So it's exactly what it sounds like. Just a lot of type and type things. Let's see, we go. So this is great. This is what this font consists of. Well, I am never gonna remember which symbol is sitting under what key. There's just no way I'm gonna remember that. Some just going to use this and go great. Let's draw that. Let's draw that So this whole flaunt is basically special characters. But again, it's still a font I still have. I still deal with it using type, size and leading and all that. It works just like any other character and font, but it's sitting here in the Cliffs panel Christian. When you download a font to your computer, will they automatically show up in here? Or do you have to do neither automatic? They're actually built into the font. It's just that there's no keyboard equivalent or there might be. But there's not enough keyboard equivalents for all that. All those that are there. Yep, they're just built into the front, so, and if it's not there, that front doesn't have it would have to switch to another fun. But like if I downloaded a farm from the Internet, like what it automatically show up in Illustrator? Or do I have to do anything special? Get it. You'd have to either drag your fonts into your fund folder or, if you have a front management software, which I highly recommend something like suitcase or fun Agent Pro or any of any of the ones that are out there are does that make sense for text? I want nothing I'm gonna show with text to remember what I have. One more thing with text. I won't agree. One of these questions is eyes their way to go to get text to go on a curb rather than a straight line. Yes. And is that what you're gonna show us? Nope. But I can. Cool. Oops, I could do it. Let's actually do that. And I would create a new document here. So if I made a curve, just do that. And we want text to run alongside it underneath the type tool, click and hold. There's something here called type on a path. So she's type on a path and I'm just going to click until I get a little Ah little icon here that shows me that I'm click sitting on it and I get my blinking cursor and I'm gonna go ahead and just paste the text that I had there. So it went ahead and drew it on top of that particular line that's there now. I can go ahead and make changes in the same way to this line that I did before by playing with handle doing all that. But now it's actually type sitting on that particular path. That's there. You had another question we do and another one from our our salon 11. How to wrap the texts like we do with shapes. If the paragraphs can also wrap Oh, if, like text wrapping around an object? Yeah, there's a whole text wrap up and so we can go ahead and just put that on. You tell it that you want text to wrap around that particular object or whatever it's called text trip. I wasn't gonna cover it. Today is a little more advanced, but it's called Textract. If you want a lift out. Sure. The other thing I want to show you was this item that was introduced in the last version. Um, I'm not really sure what to do with it yet. I'm still trying to figure out I think it's one of those things that eventually will be really cool, I think. But right now I'm just not sure where it is and It's called the touch type tool, which I haven't here, but it's also in the character panel. It's called The Touch Hector and just click that. And what happens when I click a selected piece of text? It just selects that particular character, and I can do things like grab this little circle that's up here and rotate it, and that's great. But it's just I haven't quite figured out, you know, is it pushes everything else around, and I kind of like it, and I like that you can grab something and size it, which is nice. I can play with that here, stretch it out top or sideways like that, and I like that. It's still text that still, um, we're still in line. It's not like I had to pull it out, make it its own thing. When I select all this text, it's still there. When I look at the type, it still shows me that it's 14 point. If I decide I want to change them the font later. I could do that all at once and come in here and just say, Let's change it to that and all that styling stays. I like that, but you're kind of limited. So you just come in here touch, type, tool and grab what you need and and work with the changes there. But again, you can't get it any closer. I'm trying to get it closer is what I'd really rather have is have this closer. But what it's doing is just moving kind of everything out of the way. So I think it's a really good beginning, but I want to point out what that touch type tool is. I know you have a little bit more control over if you're using a stylist, but you're still kind of limited to the same operations that you can do, making a bigger rotating it and moving it a little bit. But like I said, the great thing is, when you change the font, it changes all that. You haven't had to pull it out and suddenly update 18 little text frames with the font that's there. Where do you find the touch? Point to the touch type tool is in the character panel just right here at the top, just as touch type tool. So if I'm working in it, I just click it and It's also under the type tool as well. So it's hidden under there, right? Makes sense for text. Alright, We're okay over there and questions. Well, maybe one more. Maybe one. Don't make sure we get everything in the Okay. Okay. Uh, let's see. We've got Bethany. Who says the touch text tools so awesome will definitely use it instead of having to put a second text box in there. Yes. Oh, that is cool. Eso One more question. Can you text wrap? Can text rap on separate path text rap on separate paths. I'm not sure exactly what they buy it. And if we can't get back to our email, you laters. Then let us know. Yeah, can text wrap like a good sample. A good example? Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And one more. One more. One. Okay, well, meaning And that is Can you remind us again how this is far Sarasa, who's been with us all day wherein the character panel was the option to choose the language setting okay on the character panel at the very bottom it should. You have to remember to turn on show options and then it shows up. And that's probably what happened is that she just probably didn't have no, because by default, every time I reset my workspace, when I'm resetting that and I open this up again, it's still not showing me all my options. I have to go back and tell it show options, and that's gonna be at the very bottom. And that's where your language is selected. And you have to make sure that you select the text because it's character. It's character styling. You have to select the text before you select the dictionary. That's here because you're telling it that specific text, I could tell it. This paragraph is English, and this paragraph is Spanish, so it's You have to actually select the text and tell it everything that selected is in that particular language.
