Class Introduction
So if you follow CreativeLive and you've followed a lot of my classes, there's been a lot of classes, a few years ago we did a two day Illustrator Infographic class on how to build an entire infographic from start to finish. And it's been a very popular class and so we decided to do a bit of a refresh on this as well that will add some new items and elements and also show different ways to build, different techniques and also just give you a whole bunch of cool ideas. If you have signed up for the class one of the things that you will probably have seen already is that you get this whole thing of infographics that I've built, and we just kinda put 'em all together. And this is an Illustrator file, and you can actually go in there and pick these apart and see what they are. It's a great little piece of bonus material. And you can kind of figure out how we did them. But you don't have to do it by yourself because that's what we're here for today, to show you how we can put these together...
in Illustrator. The great thing about building infographics or anything in Illustrator is going through and actually learning the very basics and putting this all together. Now, when people see infographics and they see these kind of icons, many people say "I'm not creative. "I can't do this. "I can't draw". This is the class for you. Because we don't draw in this class. We be creative by just understanding the basic building blocks of Illustrator and how we use those building blocks to put everything together. So if you're not feeling creative, definitely watch this class. If you know a little bit about Illustrator, you're gonna find out just the simplest things on how you can take simple shapes and make things really cool. So, this is part of the class that you get, and I just wanna run through some of the infographics that I've done so you can get an idea of some of the fun stuff that you can do. So a while back we had done a class here at CreativeLive on what's the difference between Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop? And so what better way to put this together but to go in and use an infographic to show you. This was all done in Illustrator. And here we go, when to use Illustrator, when to use InDesign, when to use Photoshop. All simple basic creation of shapes. Simple icons putting them all through, making sure everything comes together, using a consistent color theme. What fun. Taught a class on file formats, and these were all built in Illustrator as well. These were actually turned into symbols. We're going to show you how symbols work and how great they are. Just running through some of the great stuff we can do with infographics. This is one on printing terminology that I had done for people that don't really know much about print production but just wanna get a basic overview on there. Nice colors, interesting shapes, quick and informative. Nice little chart on water usage. How much water we use in our homes, here. Simple way to do an infographic. This is one of my personal favorites. This is actually a class project that I do at the college that I teach at. And one of the things that we do is have the students actually develop a recipe using just icons. No letters, no numbers. And this one happens to be for chicken pot pie. I kinda threw the recipe in there. But how we can use icons and put them together in an infographic so that you can actually see how this all works. Again, really simple shapes. Circles, squares, triangles and what you can do with all of these. And so if you're like, "Oh I can't do this", yes you can. If you know how to use a little bit of Illustrator, you can do this. And if you can't, you will by the end of today. No question about it. Couple other things here. Timelines, information, how you can put content together using color. And then of course back to our awesome infographic assortment here that you get with this class. And if you follow along here you can simply check this out and I'll post a new one about every week. And it gives you a step-by-step example of how you actually go in and create this. And yes, it's really that easy. I have this little axe right here. So you can follow me, every week I post this. I post it out on Twitter as well and Facebook. And, just really simple building, all these cool ideas. When we had our pumpkin carving class I decided, what the heck, let's show you different, cool ways we can build pumpkins and so on. And I've got a huge index of these on and on for back over a year and half now doing this. So you can join me online there, see all the things that you can do. It's awesome. It's great. Give input as well. I also have a portfolio here just showing you some of the infographics I've done. And one of the things that we did a couple years ago was this two day class, and we actually built this infographic over two days. And the great thing with the classes that I do is, we kind of have an outline about what's going on but I literally do it stream-of-thought. So these aren't well rehearsed things where I'm building these shapes beforehand to make sure they work. I do it right on screen, right here, and if something doesn't go right you get to see how we go ahead and we fix it. But this was literally a two day class from how you concept, build, pick fonts, use a grid layout, go ahead and choose your colors, build everything, make it fit, and make it work. So that was a great one. And it's still up there on CreativeLive. And then other fun things and how to do an infographic on useless information but make it look really awesome. And other fun stuff, mobile technology, putting it all together, water usage in the home, fun stuff, and simple as nice little cup of coffee, snowy tree, whatever it may be, little alligator right there, other infographics as well and if you like these, this is the class for you, 'cause we're gonna build them all.

I bought the first version of the course of Infographics and I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to use Illustrator. Exactly as he explains in the video, this is not a course just to learn how to make graphics. At the end of the course you will be able to develop just about anything in Illustrator. Really! All the knowledge I have today of this tool, started from this course of Infographics to which he refers. Not only the content is comprehensive, but Jason is a great teacher, explaining everything very, very simply. I'm looking forward to watching this update.
