Choosing Fonts and Editing Text
got a couple new features an illustrator with using type and we can set type and illustrator and we can change the color and the size. And the font in the properties panel is definitely going to come into this here a couple things with illustrator and type that's a little bit unique over any other application you've probably used. And here it ISS When we're working with text and illustrator here. Of course, we're gonna need our type tool. There's two different kinds of type that we can have an illustrator. We have what's called point type and we have paragraph type. Now it's all text. Okay, there's no real difference in the type itself. It's how it actually works. If I take my type tool and I simply click on my page and I begin to type, it will simply type forever and ever and ever. If I would like to break the line, I have to put in a return and I type okay, and you're like, OK, that looks like normal type. Yes, the type looks the same, but how we handle that is totally different. Tha...
t was point type. I clicked on a point and began to type. Now the one problem with point type is this. If I go back to my selection tool and it's like, Hey, you know, that looks like a bounding box like I have with all my shapes. It isn't It looks like one. It isn't. If I take my bounding box and I go ahead and do this, it actually ruins my type. And it's like, Wow, I thought by scaling this, you know, the type would flow. Uh, this is not a bounding box. That's the problem. If I'm doing text in here that I would like to flow. What I need to do is take my type tool and not click, but a click and drag and create a container. I'm gonna go back to my selection tool, and this looks like a bounding box just like this looks like a bounding box. It's like how different is it tremendously different If I go with my bounding box that I've drawn first and a container when I move, this container here will resize it. You'll see that the type will flow with the container. This when I do that with a point type, it does not flow with the container. It's like who? Why would I want either of them? Well, we're doing an infographic or a charter something, and you want one or two word headlines. Point type is great. You click your type, you're done. But if I'm doing a little bit more robust type in here doing paragraphs, I would probably want to draw container for this. Now, when I draw container, I now have to worry about the size of my container, because in this case I have to much type in the container. And I get this red plus right here now that Redd Plus means I have over set text or overflow. But I'd have to go. We don't have to keep opening my container until there's enough room. Don't bother, since it'll pull handle on this window shade. That's exactly what it iss Double click on that pole handle is gonna open up your text container right to the very end. If your text container is very big and you've got a lot of extra space, that pull handle works both directions up or down. That's great. Now when I go win and I rotate my type, though it doesn't rotate, the box rotates that type doesn't. And you're like, Come on, I know so. But if I take my point type and I rotate that Oh, yeah, that rotates just fine, but I can't scale the box. And it's like, Okay, well, this is frustrating. It's like, yeah, it ISS So this is great for text flow and being able to make it flow and rewrap without having to go in and rewrap every line. And by the way, the nice little shortcut that I used to get back in to edit my type. When you want to editor type, you didn't see me go over and select my type tool, which, by the way, is the letter t. I simply select my container or my point type and double click, and that's gonna activate the type tool Escape is going to get me back out of the type editing nice little shortcuts. So somebody gives you an illustrator file and they've done an entire postcard in here, and they've done it all in point type, and you now have to go in and rewrap everything that's like my gosh, what dough ideo? Well, you can convert one type of type to another type of type. If I select my point type here, I've got my lollypop sticking out the side. I select my paragraph type. I've got a lollypop Oh, they look different. Yes, point type is open. Paragraph type is solid. I can convert one to the other point type. I cannot scale the box, but I can rotate it and rotate the type. If I select the point type double click on the lollipop It now turns into paragraph type that will then brief low. If I take my paragraph type and double click on the lollipop it now turns into point type that can be rotated but it will not re flow. Simple stuff. Okay, Things to think about right there depends on what you use what you want. Now, that's great. So now I've got my text containers. Then we got everything going to go over to my properties panel here. Very simple stuff with text formatting. I'm gonna go ahead and I'm going to select my text in The easiest way to select the text is I can go through and click and drag and everything, but I'm just gonna do a Commander control A to select everything in my appearance panel here. I can control the color of my type clicking on this watch panel. Get whatever color type I'd like. And I can also set the type in the point size and letting and stuff. Now, one of the cool things that they've done here with this is they have now given you a dynamic type menu where I can select my type and it's actually gonna show me what the type looks like in here. But then it's also going to allow me to just scroll over all of this right here very easily and see exactly what it looks like on screen with that. Now, here's a cool thing to if I'm doing the entire text container here, I don't even need to select the type. I could just go win, select the container from doing all the type, and just hover over this and run through my entire typeface. This is new. This is absolutely great. Now you may not know, but you have access to thousands of fonts. It used to be called Adobe type kit, and there was little TK Button up here. Now it's just this little cloud button and you can go through. And when you click on this, I'm not gonna do this now cause it takes little bit of time to load. But when you click on this, it will show you all of the fonts that you can activate as part of your subscription to the creative cloud. You can have access to literally thousands of typefaces. If you're looking for a particular type face here, you can filter this by classifications. Do you want Sand Saref serif script? You know, hand chiselled, whatever. So not only can you search that way, but you can also filter your type faces that you have in there with all these different properties. So lots of new stuff that you can dio. And then, of course, you can adjust the size and letting. And if you want mawr formatting, you got all your type right there

Great job, several ah ha moments and throw in a few wow's. I thought I had better than a basic knowledge only to find out how little I really knew. The short cuts, shapes and highlight noodles just to name a few. Well worth it. This would have made learning AI so much easier than when I did. Thank you Jason,
