Hand Drawn Photo Layouts

This class comes with some pre created layouts for you so you don't have to go and create him from scratch and so I'm going to open a few of these and we're just going to pluck some pictures of him and I'll show you how we'll use some of the features we already talked about to end up accomplishing that so uh let's take a look uh first off let's see here's an image and my wife karen was nice enough to hand letter uh the text of the bottom so it's not generic type that you type in with with things in all that and she hand drew that little frame that's there that we could put a picture in and we set up this document so it's more or less a template for you to use where there are certain layers turned off so for instance there's one layer if you look in here called it's a boy there's a different one called it's a girl in just one of those turned off and the other one's on so if we want to use it for the other purpose we'd turn this eyeball often turn that one on makes sense then if we look ...

at how this is set up there are some things we haven't used before in here but that's okay there's a layer here that has a mask limiting where shows up ben above that is a picture and you see that little down point narrow that means the picture only shows up where that thing is and that's what causes the picture to be clipped to this toe on ly short for that shape is so all we need to do is replace this picture so let's go grab a picture to put in there I don't know which picture to use I didn't plan this ahead of time let's go grab horse let's say a horse just this horse is a girl uh you know she's a girls riding horse I'm going to open that image then I'm going to use photo shops moved to la and I'm just gonna drag from here you got a click inside the picture with the move tool and start dragging up to the other tab and then down into this document now in the layers panel it's going to appear directly above whatever layer was active and I just happened to have a particular layer active and something weird happened can you see that that this layer was active it popped in and went right there and it automatically got that little arrow because this one had the arrow so what's happening right now is this pictures on lee showing up where this is but that's covering up on top so let's turn off that one that's on top there is a person let's throw away the one that had the original baby let's get her in there now she's looking kind of crowded in there so let's type command tea for transform let's zoom out because those transformation how's the picture goes way out let's get her smaller zuma now it's not always going to do what it did to me where that I didn't see the picture when I let go, it just seemed to not be there because it was being covered up by something else and it automatically got that little down pointing arrow. So let me undo that down pointing our thing if I go to the layer menu there's a choice called release clipping mask that choice will only be available when the layer you're working on has the down pointing arrow next to it. So there's our picture without it being clipped to something and it could be moved up or down in my layers panel and it would cover up various things and what I would need to do is make sure to place it directly above the layer that contains the shape that I want to clip it to. Then I could go layer, create clipping mask and that's what gives it the down point out that makes it clipped to what's underneath? But we have so you get the idea though, that we could do this kind of stuff now let's say I wanted to put something else here where it says it's a girl if I don't like the colors, I want that to be a photo or a texture or something else we can also replace that all you need to do is put a photo on top of it and make it clipped to it watch this I'll create a brand new empty layer remember the new layer icons that one looks like a sheet of paper with the corner turned up I clicked clicked on it and before I put anything on that layer the layer is empty right now uh I'm going to clip it to what's underneath so it's currently clipped and empty layer is clipped to this layer that says it's a girl so that means I can now grab the paintbrush tool in a fire to paint on this layer there is paint me and added to the layer if you look in the layers panel can you see it in the layers panel see the black paint but it's being clipped to what's underneath saying that this layer only shows up where that thing is underneath so it's not going to see it until you get over here and I come in here and paint with how many colors I want but whatever's in this layer is going to be clipped to what's underneath it if I unclip it you see the whole paint I painted it but because that was clipped to what's underneath you don't it's kind of weird you gotta get used to that there's a little over spray here that I didn't want so I just grabbed the eraser tool, race it out of there now let's go and do a few more of those. See what else what other kind of layouts did we end up kidding here? Well, let's just cycle through you get a sense for so know that anytime you see a photo it's set up so you can easily replace that photo and it will be clipped to the same thing so this would just be very simple illustrative little boxes and we got a set of four you want to put four photos in here? We have the hand letter text the the glass is in that little bar that's there. If he put a photo in there to replace this one, that bar would lighten the photo that you put in there that happens to be karen and I on our wedding day. Ah there's some more hand lettered stuff and this has a layer in it that will lighten in kind of white ify the picture that you put in to give a kind of lighter look for it uh got this one as well we could just slide the picture in underneath this one the black area on the right side it's just waiting for you to put a picture there and the area on the left side it's a little hard to tell unless you look close but this has texture in it over here and, uh got that another just married in this is set up so you could put in two photos one in the top grey bar area one of the bottom gray bar area to showed two different ones and here we got four pictures in our text you already saw that one remember you can swap out it's a boy with it's a girl but we're just trying to give you some things to get started with so that you can not be limited by creating a brand new empty document than going I'm not a designer I don't know howto you know what's the interesting layout but that way there's just these great boxes and here put a picture on top of each one make it clip to what's below so that it only shows up within there then you can move it around with the move tool command t it to transform it to get to be whatever size you want within that in all that kind of stuff I should mention that some of these air set up in fact a lot of them are set up there's only a few that aren't where you can change the colors of things very easily if you look in here there's a layer that's has just married this is one of those solid color layers think we've used one once or twice or before in this this right here indicates the color that's being used, and if he double click on it, you'll get a color picker and I could say, no, I want read text at the bottom or green text or whatever you want, and if it looks that way where it looks like a little square of color with almost a slider underneath it, know that it's something you can double click on to change the color of that element there's only a few of them where I didn't get around to implementing them in that way. So, for instance, here you can change the color of both the text and the color of the square that's in the middle, and then you can put your own photos in here to replace the gray boxes and have a nice little layout with them. Nice white space and so on. So does that make sense as faras? We're part of the templates that you can get if you happen to purchase the class so let's, just double check that you know how to make some of those changes open these was throwing some pictures and get it done so first I'd notice that these boxes here look like those little squares where you can change the colors so if I double click I can say I want that text to be black and I want that square to be ugly in fluorescent green just to show you that you can do it and then we have one box for each photo and down here it's his background color it's the same kind of box that means I could double click on it and if I want to create a a beautiful layout I can you know, make ridiculous colors which was some people some in some areas seem to be popular uh and then we can go and just grab images I'm gonna grab some random ones I'm going to select all if you have more than one image they open and camera all together like this and you wanted to open the mall just hit the select all button then the button down here will change from open imaged open images otherwise it'll only open the images you have selected on the right side and that might only be one so make sure that you hit select all hit open images now they're going to pop open a separate files and when they're done opening we're just going to drag him over, put him on top of any one of those boxes, clip it and then scale camel okay it's done so now it's hard to see where the other documents are s o what I will do sometimes when there's too many tabs open is I'll go old school instead of trying to drag to a tab and down and all that stuff is I'll just do a select all by typing command eh? Because it's easy keyboard shortcut in then all type comand see which is like women to copy so command a for select all command c for copy and I get used to command w for closing a window don't save and then I was switched to the document that I wanted to put them in the window men you always have a list of the documents you currently have open and that's one way of switching over I'll take command v is for paste if you go under here you see pace's command v put it in I just need to make sure it's on top of one of those great boxes so I get it on top of the great box and I say layer create clipping mask it's hard to tell but there's a picture now in that box we're just seeing one little part of the sky though so I typed command tea for transform and there's a little trick and that is if you ever type command tea and the handles on the corners are beyond the edge of your screen uh, type command zero it'll zoom out just far enough where you can see him command zero usually means fit in window and when it comes to transforming if that's what you're in the middle of it means fit at least the transformation handles within this window so now I can scale us down get this too fit that hit returner enter when I'm done and then I can use the move tool to kind of reposition it within that it's not the best photo for a square but you get the idea then I go to the next image command a for select all command c for copy well then close the document pick the next square paste player great clipping mask and then command tea for transform this would probably be better for pictures of a couple where you have their faces where you can get in there instead of you know big rectangular things but you get the idea that you could take all these layouts. All you gotta do is drag your picture, put it on top of the great box, clip it to what's underneath, scale it so you get it to fit and the more you continue doing that the more these boxes you could fill in and you can create in kind layout you want you want to change the colors you double click on the little swatch of color and change it to whatever you think is appropriate so it's rather nice having a somewhat versatile layout as faras uh well you could do with it and that's what all these are so if you purchase class to get all those say you khun model from as much as you want any general questions about using them just remember to look within them try to figure out where is the box that's this shape where the photos supposed to go make that layer active before you dragged over a photo or you paste a photo so goes directly above because on occasion there they look a semi complex and if there's already a photo in it when you paste it in and you don't see your picture just know that that other photo might be on top you might have throwed away teo reveal the photo that you put in questions all right what do we got a lot of people actually want to know how did you add your wife's drawing into photo shop how do we had her drawing into photoshopped yeah they've been they were scanned in on a flatbed scanner okay and after they were scanned in on a flatbed scanner something was done to them similar to what I showed you on the one that said happy birthday with a cake next to it remember there was a little process to get rid of the background something like that was done but there was actually maur done to it in that karen can't help it. She had to clean it all up, every little inaccuracy and the in the drawing of staff. So she did a bunch to clean those up to make them nice. And but in essence, it was a similar process to what happened with the word happy birthday with a little cake on the side to get rid of the background, but otherwise it was a flatbed scanner that was used, okay? And if you do that process that I showed you with the with the happy birthday um, there is away, you can apply that to a solid color layer, and if you do, you could make it any color you want. So you don't if you remember or not, but when I had that have the word happy birthday there when I was done, I had that layer and there was a later mask attached to it. The layer mask was what was making the background disappear so let's say you've done that, and this is your layer mask. What you could do then afterwards is go to the bottom of your layers panel, click on the adjustment layer icon and say, I want a solid color, and when you choose that it'll ask you what color you want, you choose whatever color you'd like. When you create a solid color layer, it automatically comes with the mask. Damascus. Just empty it's, full of white, but we can click on this mask and just drag it up there in photo shop. Will say, did you want to replace that, you say yes and so now a mask that might have been originally masking the original scan of the text is now instead masking this solid color layer, controlling where it shows up. And so now I would have that stuff I scanned in where I can now double click on the left side of this thing and change it any color I want at any time. And so it could be rather nice, so you're not stuck with the original color of whatever it is you scanned in, like your signature or anything else.
