Shoot: Accordion Technique

Let's do this accordion post, okay, and demonstrate that. So let's just start off with, let's pretend that we have a beautiful bride here, Elena, and then let's get some volunteers. Who wants to come up and take some pictures and be in the group shot? Does anybody wanna take your picture? All right, so let's just do all, let's just do the bridesmaids first, how's that? So let's, well, no, hey. There's guys in there all the time. Let's do it, whatever. Okay, so come on up, and let's just try that accordion posing, okay? And so you guys will be over here. Elena, why don't you go over there and we'll face you this way. Okay, let's, hey, let's just go with five more, how's that? Just to keep it easier. Okay? So, let's, okay, great. Perfect. So let's pretend that you are the maid of honor. Okay, thanks. Okay, and so I would have you pose together in the middle. Okay, and then I would group you up, and I kind of would go by height. So I can see that you're a little bit taller, right. So ...

I'd have you guys group together and pose here. And then I'd have you come here on this side, right. And so then I would pose you two, right. And she's a little bit taller than you, so I would have you guys face each other, right. And then come together like this, right. Perfect. And then now, I've got an accordion. Now, I know I got terrible lighting in here. Usually, I would use a flash, but if you can come on this side, and see what we can do, if we can light them up in it. How bright can we do it? Can we just evenly light everything? Is that even possible? Sort of, what's that? (aide speaks off-mic) Yeah, let's see what we've got there. Usually, I would be setting up my flash and everything. Okay, can you get in a little bit closer, right. There you go, right there, okay, so I'm go way, way, way, I shoulda changed lenses, but no, we gotta do things the hard way. This looks good, okay, one, two, great, (camera clicks) Good. All right, now, I want you guys look at each other and hysterically laugh, ha ha ha ha ha. All right, okay. (audience laughs) Now, what the problem with that is, is when they look at each other, a lot of times you don't see their face. So I'll do that and I'll say, "Laugh," and everything, but laugh in front of each other, so I could see your face. Okay, so again, do that same thing, but you're gonna kind of laugh in front of each other, hysterically laugh, go. (laughter) (camera clicks) Perfect. Elena, look forward more this way in front. Don't look at each other, but laugh. Yeah, there you go. (camera clicks) Perfect. (camera clicks) All right, good. Now, let's just have you hold hands and separate a bit. I don't even know if we can get this in the camera view. So hold hands. I know that might feel weird because these are not your real friends. Okay, so, yeah. See how they're holding hands like that. So what you've got, actually we gotta do something a little bit different right here. So I need to have your body that way, yeah, so you can reach back, right. And so you're gonna face this way, right. And so I'm still keeping the accordion, but they're just holding hands, and then they're spreading out, and I'm pretending they have beautiful backlight behind them, and I'm not even sure I can get everybody in line, here. I can't, so, but I'm goin' for it. (laughter) I'm goin' for it. I'm still here, folks. That's good, nearly done, now look at me. Okay, look at each other. Okay, now be perfect. Nice. Okay, good. All right, and so that's kind of the accordion, and then the extended, and that's a nice little pose for the bridesmaids and something you can do with the group. Okay, great, thank you very much.

This course is amazing! Scott is extremely straightforward. He goes directly to practical problems, tips and etc. He explains every thing very clearly, and he is also very funny and charismatic, making you laugh as you learn. He shows that you don't need a lot of expensive gear to make very nice pictures. So I have saved some money as well, cause I was about to buy some gear that I wouldn't need right now. It is for sure one of the best photography courses I have ever attended to! I highly recommend! Thanks a lot Scott! You are the best!

Another fantastic class with Scott Robert Lim! The combination of his knowledge, willingness to share, passion & entertaining personality makes him a top choice for photography education. Learning not only the "what", but the "why" & "how" can transform one's entire approach towards MAKING pictures. A constant inspiration to get better & better through practice.

I have purchased a number of classes, this being one of them. The quality of the information was good and the level at which Scott spoke was appropriate for me. Having a course sylibus would add greatly to the value, which usually is not part of the programs I've purchased including this one, unless I've missed it. I believe the speaker should be required to provide one. After watching the videos, much of material can be recaptured by seeing it in writing. I would like to hear back from Creativelive their thoughts. In sum, good topic, good speaker, good technical audio and video quality by Creativelive
