Social Media Promotion Strategies

So what were we going into next is growing and promoting your podcast? How many of you feel like you have the audience you want? You feel like you're getting all the traffic and all the listens you want for your podcast? Is anyone there? Has anyone arrived to podcast traffic mastery? No one's arrived. Ok, me neither. You have? I have not either. I mean, I'm getting, like, eight hundred fifty thousand dollars a month, and I feel like I'm still scratching the surface like I feel like joe rogan's at, like, eighteen million a month down those I'm like, how do I talk more about mushrooms and spaceships? Teo, get to that level. You know what I mean? And it's like I'm three years in the first year I did one episode a week, second year, two episodes a week. Now this here's been three episodes a week. That's a lot of work to get to that level and it's a lot of time for me and a lot of energy, and I put money into the production and a list thing. So I want to make sure that my energy and effort ...

is pays off by getting it into the ear buds of people all over the world. So it's one thing to put together a great episode, it's one thing teo, find the right guest to produce it well to put the music in and have a flow it's another thing next to really promote it and that's where the work begins in my mind it's not the episode itself it's getting the message out there eso were to talk about promoting an episode and growing your audience we're to cover social media right now because this is the easiest way if you don't have an email list if you don't have distribution this is the easiest way to get started I'm sure all of you are on social media I'm assuming you're all of a twitter, facebook, instagram you're probably all have the basics and some of you are probably really really well versed at social media but for those watching on online here's my flow is my process that works for me and I start off with putting it on facebook and so this is what I did recently with ah guy from a bravo show his name is josh holtman he had a book come out and I'll do a little a little quote or the little intro sentence with linc in a nice photo and a nice headline from my blawg and what I usually do is boost the post so I'll let it run for like four hours and try to share it to every group that I'm a member ofthe, so I'm posting my facebook fan page posted back over to my personal page then I'll share it and a lot of groups and I'll comment on a lot of the first few comments in each post in all these groups for me that's important because I want to be seen in all the facebook groups that these air in some of the bigger groups that I'm a part of and you gotta make sure that the groups you're a member of allow you to post things like this if they don't allow it then no posted don't be spam e but I find a tie in there a lot of inspirational messaging groups a lot of positivity groups so I'll find a tie and of like if you want to take you know your business to the next level listen this interview where he talks about how he lost all his money and then made millions some type of tie in to the specific group now this takes time and I have lots of groups on the member ofthe so it takes time to post it crafted find the right image the image is very important in my mind whether it's going get shared or not so it's got to be a nice image an image of a person usually does better than just a random image and facebook is where I drive a lot of traffic to my podcast but it's the groups and actually doing that extra step to really feature in those groups which we're gonna help you in my opinion, so we just posted and expect people to share it's not gonna happen. You gonna follow that? That extra step? Um, again, this takes time. So instagram is because I've been building an audience and I've been very strategic on instagram. I'm able to drive a lot mohr traffic to the podcast in the cool thing about instagram is people are looking at another phone and you can link rightto itunes from the bio link on instagram, and then people can click right on the itunes link on your bio in the open of writing the podcast out. So for me, that's pretty powerful, I will try to take photos with my guest. I do videos with my guests that I put on on instagram that, and I'll take out little fifteen second clips and put it on instagram as well, this with casey nice that, um who there's a big youtube video guy that I had on and I'm leveraging their audience as well. I'm tagging damn! I'm featuring them! He posted a photo of me. So for me, it's important to really show that I'm going have good content that I could give to them to share a swell, but I would do this on instagram as well, and it drives a lot of traffic for me, twitter you know, I don't know what twitter does that much from any more it does some some good, but there's just so much noise on twitter now these days I feel like it's harder to really drive traffic, but I'm still sharing it out. There are multiple times a day, and I use something called meet edgar dot com m e t edgar dot com and also hoot suite to repurpose and and publish it once and then we'll share it over and over again, so you don't to constant share yourself, but twitter is great, you know? I'm just talking about the people I have on with a little quote or something, and I linked to the podcast specifically, this is all again very basic stuff, but you guys probably know this stuff it's literally going that extra step and taking the time to share in all these places and then comment and like people stuff on their comments, that's what's going to get the extra traction painters for me believe or not gets fifty percent of my travels to my website, fifty percent of the traffic to my website. Once I started diving in a pinterest uh, it doubled within a couple months, my traffic and already had a pretty big site, and so it doubled and I was blown away at the possibilities of pinterest now some things you could do, what I'm going to suggest to you guys, I'm gonna give you a little behind the scenes, the stuff that I shouldn't say is it's going to take unless you have a big pinchers court already it's going to take time to build it up and ends, it may not be worth it. What really makes sense is finding the bigger boards people that own the bigger boards and building relationships and partnerships with them and saying, hey, listen, you've got a board on fitness has got a million followers I've got this incredible podcast that talks about all these top health things, etcetera, etcetera, how about I linked to your your pinterest board on every one of my posts, if you allow me to share my podcast on your board once a week, so for me, I try to think outside the box and think, how can it be strategic and partner with people who already have a big following not try to start from scratch because that's gonna take forever, but partner with the people that have the big board's that's what I've done that's, how I was able to get the traffic because I partner with people that had couple million followers here in there, three hundred thousand followers, half a million, two million followers and that's, where I'm going to traffic from it's partnering with people have the boards doing the research, finding ways to add value to those board members they want great content to be featured, right? They don't and they don't want to create the images himself all the time they're doing the work so if you can create the images and say, hey, listen, I just made for you ten different images that you can have for free use them if you want you make them specific to the design that they do to the style, the messaging and just say, hey, this is what I can do for free I would love to be on a post a photo and link back to my podcast, which is great information great content on for me that's great our team christine does the images for me is the podcast when you guys met and, uh, I think all of these air just using canda I think canvas canvas up here in san francisco, I think it's just a free design app simple font guys all use camera and there's other aps out there as well, but you can make nice looking stuff from camera so that's the secret to pinterest is finding partners not trying to do is scratch yourself that's going to take too much time, you should focus on your podcast and building relationships for me that's worth work best unless you're really good at that stuff periscope this has been fascinating in a periscope and snapchat I've started to use in the last six months or whatever and periscope is powerful again you've gotta work it and build the relations. What I did early on was that partner with people and I said, hey interview me on your gyroscope I'll interview you and we just cross promoting each other and I spent a lot of time early on going on everyone's periscope and just leaving comments live and they're replying to everyone and I would get a lot of followers that way um so this is good I'll put it on, I'll do this during my podcast sometimes I will start the periscope is hey guys, we've got sewing so in the room I'll have it on for the first five ten minutes so you guys can come watch us live do an interview and then I'll turn it off and that works to it's kind of like building that engagement with periscope building where they shoot with your guests and any questions on that type of promotion right there yes, what do you have a vanity board for your pinterest account or is like you have a head like louis houses? Yeah, I've got a school of greatest board and you know, other little boards but they only have a couple thousand followers, you know, so you mentioned that you were using code sweet to help automate some of your posting I'm curious about the redundancy and how frequently you redundantly post things or how you manage that I'm probably posting the five to seven times a day on twitter just because I don't feel it's getting much traction but warms replying to people I get so many people posting sharing my podcast cause I'm always asking for at the end of every show to share on twitter, facebook and instagram and so if you go to my twitter feed you'll see just me saying thanks constantly people are smiling face or appreciate it like thanks for sharing um that's how I'm using twitter more often but I feel like that one on one engagement really helps them to come back I want to keep sharing and that's what I wanted to kind of create that viral nous of everyone else sharing so I'll post five seven times a day though but it doesn't drive too much traffic so you know questions about that came in from the online audience just want some clarification on when you say that your strategic on instagram maybe you could talk a little bit more about what you mean you say strategic is there something that you can share for the specific strategies that you use for something like instagram on instagram? I mean I'll be honest I spent a lot of time on instagram with last year because I saw the value in and I saw the value in having an audience there because I realized that I was spending my time they're more than facebook and I was like if I'm doing this I bet everyone else is starting to do this if they haven't yet so instagram is interesting because I mean I was partying with all the big people on instagram as well and I would get them to share photos of me links to me I mean, I was promoting webinars I had one guy do a few posts and got five thousand options on my email list from a couple posts on instagram and write to a webinar often so I was doing a strategically to get followers but also traffic teo other offers that ideo which is why people should go by the builder online business creative live course that I did three years ago we were talking about that um partnering with people is where is that? So I find the big instagram boards and I have them post photos of me sometimes you could do it on trade sometimes you gotta pay per post but obviously not with the instagram ads coming out you won't need to do that you know this is instagram ads weren't available until now ongoing opening up to everyone very soon so you can kind of drive your own traffic based on how much you wanna spend on instagram ads just like on facebook ads so like I said with the facebook stuff, I'll boost that post I'll spend twenty bucks every time I put a podcast link out and that's gonna drive a lot more traffic um I don't know if that answers that question on instagram well, that sounds good. Yeah, yes about waiting for hours before you boosted it. Why is that? You know, that may not be the case in four months, depending on how facebook works, but it's ah, I see that I like to try to get as much organic traffickers I can first from just posting it and then sharing it in groups, sharing it to ten twenty groups to see how much it'll pick up organically and then it kind of dies down and it stops me shared or stop seeing comments or likes then I'll spend twenty buster boosted so kind of continues so that's just kind of like a gut feeling, you know, I don't have any real data or anything but it's just like okay, when the travel goes down I tried to boost it to put it back up. It could be two hours, four hours I'm just you know, I kind of feel it out yeah, how many poster you doing like, you know, facebook on uh I mean instagram, instagram um it depends I was doing like one quality photo a day now I'm doing we're like two sometimes three and I usually do a quote because just cause for what works for me is like a quote a really nice quote image with uh you know, a little story below that that tends to get more likes and comments than just like a photo of me or something else we'll get maybe a half a cz much so I kind of mix it up with quotes, photos of lifestyle stuff like I just posted one today of my book and it still does well but it's not as well as like a quote so just depends you have tto play with it in story and all that yourself for I am yeah I probably shouldn't be um but I'm you know I love it I love like seeing how it works and the reason I'm doing it by myself right now because I'm very particular about my brand and my design and the images and things that are being said about me specifically on instagram because I feel like people are so much more connected to that than a tweet or facebook post so I'll post some things on facebook but christine will do most of the other stuff and it's pretty much aligned to what I would say and how I would do it it might be like a little bit different but I don't have twenty four hours in the day, so yeah, but the instagram until it's, not relevant anymore. Then maybe I want to do it as much. But I've got a couple of their accounts that I run as well. I've got at success, and so someone else runs that account for me and some other accounts they run. So on instagram, so, but my personal brand. I wanted to be a specific away, so I'm particularly that

Wow! This was the first time I watched a tutorial in this format - and LOOOOVE It - The audience was great , love the interactive format and the small group , because everyone gets better interaction face time with the instructor . Of course , I love anything that Lewis does- and would love to thank him and Creative Live for the free month we received as a gift at the Summit of Greatness 2018. Also, before this I actually never heard of Creative Live, so I am grateful to have found out about you guys. Absolutely EXCELLENT Creative Live course. It's funny because I was going through some old emails and I found a promo email to this course when Lewis was first promoting it. I missed out on it the first go around and so seeing this email made me curious if it was still being offered, and it was! I purchased it and went through it in two days (it would have been one day but I had other work to get done :-) Lewis is so amazing as an instructor, I really love how he gives great insight but doesn't see anything as being a "secret". He's all about getting things done through hard work and simply experimenting. He truly shares all in this course! If you are familiar with the podcasting world to some extent and are curious as to how to monetize your podcast, this is for you! Take it and enjoy! -JT
