Van Tours: Keon’s Van
What's up guys? We're hanging out at the beach. This is my buddy, Keon. And we're gonna do a little van tour of his build and show you how he's approached things a little differently than I did. (blue grass music) All right, let's check out your bed setup, Keon. How's this thing work? All right. So I just went with the traditional, with the lagoon that mounts there. So this is my dining table, my bed, and just like the, just the dining, the dining area. So this, I have a table that sits on a lagoon that breaks down in between this. And then all that happens is my pillows just kind of like go into the middle, just like that. And then all of this turns into my bed. So you'll see it on a lot of other vans. I just went with the traditional, just bed that comes down and turns right into the bed. So, So you sleep this way? I do. I'm pretty, I'm a pretty tall guy. So to be honest, I sleep diagonally. Got it. But if I have like company or something like that my bed actually extends o...
ut into the walkway, and then we can use the back doors as like the headrests. So that's cool. Yep. How often is it like this versus bed mode? So I live in here, not to cut you off, sorry. I live in here by myself, so I keep it in bed mode pretty much all the time. Unless I'm like hosting or have some friends over maybe like two or three friends, I will put it into like the dinette mode, and we can sit and like have food and stuff. But if it's just me in here, I'll literally just keep this thing in bed mode and just eat on my bed. So. It's like a six-inch mattress? Yeah. It's like six. Yep. Pretty nice. Yeah. It's, I need to change it out. It's very comfy. I actually have like a foam base that goes over top of it also just like a mattress topper to make it even more comfortable. So. You got storage under here? I do. So on this side is all of my, contains all of my water as far as like hot water tank, my fresh water tank in here. And then on this side is all of my electrical stuff. My batteries, inverter, all of that good stuff. So. How big's your water tank? My water tank. I have 25 fresh gallons of water in total. So my tank is 21 gallons, and my hot water tank is four gallons. So. Yep. That's cool. Yep. Do you have a shower for the hot water? I do have a shower. Okay. So I do have a hidden shower that's inside of here. What happens is this top part lifts off and this this top part completely comes off. And then I have shower curtains that hook onto the ceiling here. So I have some hooks up here and then just hooks onto the ceiling, then I just kind of step right inside and take my shower just like that. And then it turns right back into the kitchen counter whenever I'm finished with it. So, it kind of hides away. I also store my compost toilet inside of here. A lot of people have been asking me where I have it at. So I just store it in there. That's where it stays at. So that's how my shower works. That's an awesome use of space, man, for sure. Yeah, man. But this is my home. I did have some vinyl floor in here before, but what happened, some unfortunate things happened. I had some water damage and I had to pull it up. So I just put this grass, this turf down, you know, just for the meantime until I fix it. But it turned out looking really good and I actually enjoyed it. Yeah. The crazy thing is like, I slept on the floor the first night I put it in. I was like, dude, this is so soft and comfortable. It's like a little picnic and I like slept on it. Oh, it wasn't that comfortable After a while For sure. But it is like nice and soft feels good on bare feet, I bet. It does. Yeah. It's nice. So yeah, I just, I love this van. I love how unique all the textures are. It's the grass and just this. How'd you come up with it? So the layout for the van I definitely wanted to be a little bit different. Usually people go with like a, all white, you know they go with the white walls and stuff. But I wanted mine to look more like a Brooklyn loft, you know, very industrial. So I went with like darker tones as far as like colors. In the back, you see I have the brick and then here is just kind of like the dark wood here. So yeah. So I just wanted, yep. And then the lights also, as you see. Love that. So I can like kind of move these wherever I want to just like some nice spotlights and then the colors of those are super dark too. But yeah, I just wanted to go with more homey, more industrial, like I said, just like a Brooklyn loft. So that's what I was going for. Is this a, a fridge, like a Van Life Fridge or what style is that? That is actually a wine cooler. That's not like a 12-volt fridge. It's a wine cooler. I just got it for aesthetics. I like it because you can, it's just glass. You know what I mean? And you can look through there, see what's in there. If you wanna grab something to drink, you can. I got it because how big it is and just, just how it looks, so it's actually a wine cooler. That's cool. So Keon, if you had one tip for anyone that's looking to get into van life, what would you say? I would probably just say stay motivated. You know what I mean? Make sure you watch a lot of YouTube videos and, you know follow people who live in their vans on Instagram on all these social media platforms. Don't be discouraged, you know, about living in a van because it's, it is a great life. You know what I mean? You just make sure that you take, you know, precautions about where you park and, you know, security and stuff like that. But it's not as scary as you think it is, you know. A lot of people have worries about living a lifestyle like this, but you know, it's not that bad and just make sure you just stay focused and stay dedicated and, you know, keep your mind on the positive things that come out of, you know, living in the van. So it's pretty much all I would say, just stay motivated. It's a, it's a great life and it's super fun, you know? So just, you know, stay focused, stay motivated. That's awesome. For sure. Yeah. I like that.
