Wedding Day Overview: The Reception

Entry reception venue depending where you from in the world and again you don't have to capture it in a very stagnant fashion like in a way that it's just very um safe you're capturing a moment he a series of moments people are cheering people entering people you know I mean if they're if they're conservative they'll just walking in like you know, not with not so much energy you know but if there got a lot of energy that might do some dancing and sometimes with the planning you know they might tell you hey, we're going to do like this special entry where everyone will dance to a particular song we've actually rehearsed it and you were thinking I need to capture that in its entirety I need to capture all of it because when you watch a film when you watch an ad are you watching like the actual whole process no you're watching a they're delivering a message now I'm not saying that you you basically give them like a five second or thirty second like entry but you can be very creative in th...

e way you capture it I'm going to show you ah clip off the entry to reception but before I do that I'll just explain to you that you know you you can have things like a glide cam you know capturing the entry and then you could have the other operator using the mono pod getting claps getting very similar to remind I showed you the sequence off the bridal dance how was moving around and getting like the close suppose getting the bit of the wide and then one shot was like through trees and other shot was like through something else except eccentric same concept here you know why would you just get like let's say following the the broader party entering and then another angle is them facing like sorry the camera facing the the broader party entering wanna bring the whole experience off the whole atmosphere off that entry to the viewer because then that will help you tell the story again this is not surveillance, this is cinema and you want to create you basically want to create a experience for the viewer right? And you wanted teo bring them, draw them toothy to the to the action right? That sound that's probably too big to grasp but yet to the action into the to the emotions in the moment and if this is more dynamics that way so I'll show you this clip I'll talk you through some glass cam shot people cheering, clapping front on because you see you can't see anyone you can't see any of the shooters right? We're getting different angles right it's pretty cool, you know if he's doing his thing it's um clapping and here comes the bride and groom and changing the angle a little bit and it should be another shot here yet people watching more clapping pull focus they go now isn't that a little bit off then just shooting like them coming through and have maybe like a shot of justice speak up because they want to see the whole entry I'd better capture the whole thing because otherwise they're going to get upset and then like no no if you if you position yourself clearly in the beginning then they're not gonna have an issue because you've made it very clear what you're offering and they're gonna book you bet from that but if you hesitate and you get if you get scared and think I need to give them the three hour dvd then you know what's gonna happen you're going to be in this vicious circle that you're not going to ever get out off right I can assure you and I've had this this issue this this topic about whether you know what do we do when they ask for these to our three hour like film you know they want to see everything I want to seymour you know I can I can relate teo everyone watching this you know, because it's one of the hot topics you know you need to set you still fought from the very beginning and that includes your website that includes your link you show people what you want to create this is your business. This is your craft, you know, you should decide within reason. Like, obviously, you know, you want to accommodate as much as you can within reason, but this is this is your thing, you know? Like, why? Why do things where you know you're not gonna be happy about? And I know it's easy, symon dump possibly people are watching like, yeah, but it's just asking for everything. I can totally understand that I've seen through that, and I'm just finding slowly, slowly the more I kind of fine tuning the way we educate our couples, the types of clips that we show it's, a strategy it's, a strategy and it's about being very selective with the type of business that you want, because, look, I believe there are couples out there that initially think that that's what they need, I can assure you that when they realise what, what the alternative is with cinema as opposed to surveillance, then they'll have that appreciation, and though they'll be okay with it, I'll feel, how do you? This is seems to be a recurring theme on creative live as far as people staying put what you love out there, and then you'll attract the client that you want, so how do you teach us the confidence? To be able to put it out there versus putting out what you think people want, like what? What is that? What is that piece in you? I know it's kind of difficult question what? What is it that you have that makes that other people don't they struggle with, and they just don't have, they don't have the belief in themselves that they can just do that, is it? Is it? Is it a financial thing that you're just worried that you won't make the money, or what do you think that isthe? It can be a financial thing, because we got bills to pay your way need to make an income, and we need to be realistic in terms of the way we operate a business. Having said that, it comes down to find changing the way you educate your couples, right? And you, you do that from the moment that you are from the point off, what you show online, and your clips to how you communicate any emails from yesterday, I was going through the holst steps from when your enquiry comes in to the email, finding a reason for them to give them a reason why they would be correct for them to come to the studio, because then you can you have the opportunity to really show them what you can do it, right? Because once they've once I make that initiative, once I make that step to meet you, then you know that yeah, they they do, they are interested, they do want to know more genuinely and they are looking at your options and they made the decision based on the work that you've seen otherwise they're not gonna come and see you, right? And I know for a fact that look it's going to be hard for some couples it's gonna be hard for you with some couples, but I can tell you firsthand that I'm finding that it's not any shoot much mail that's a genuine it's on this truth, okay? Because I'm taking the time to find ways to be yourself just be confident the moment you lose your confidence, I can assure you you will see that, but you don't be rude about it, its very easy to be very arrogant. This is what we do and that's it you want to say that? But, you know, like, oh, what you do is acknowledge what they're saying, like, I can understand what what you're saying because you maybe that maybe your initial expectations, because maybe I mean, why is that? You probably asked that you like, what do you expect in a wedding film? It's one of the questions I asked when I sit down with them and what they expect and then a lot of the time that's pretty cool right it's not like I'm catching them now I'm just I'm genuinely finding out what what really what it is they are looking for because within the day it is you that knows the croft right they know their story they know what emotions they want captured but this is not their business this is not like something that they're being exposed to in trained for and I understand how it all works so this is your chance to educate them explain to them why it is and I'm doing this right now right I'm explained to you why it's important so you could do the same with your couples and you can run them down and show them examples and you remember when I said you paint a picture you edit a film for them I found that actually really works be creative during the meeting edit a film for them in your head and explain it to them showing interest explain to them you know like I can totally see how we can capture that you know because over time once you you know your training your you might your your thought you won t training yourself to think this way and capture this way and communicate this way it's just going to come a lot easy I would easily easier sorry long day but it's it's fantastic it's awesome it's so much information and I really hope that this can help you, because I am confident that you fall and everyone watching can do this. Okay? Because I, generally from the heart, I want you to be happy with what you do, because, that's, how you going to move forward? They're taken to move forward and create awesome films and raise the barn. The industry that's important and just do something meaningful, you know, I mean, and then go beyond that, you know, do other things that are non winning. They're not winning that are not winning based, yeah, not because, like weddings, is not saying you want to do, but you want a bit of writing your life as well. Yeah, and progress and do other things as well, along with winnings.
