Class Introduction

My name is Jesus Ramirez. I am an Adobe Community professional. I'm also a writer for the Adobe Creative Cloud blog, a speaker. I've worked as a graphic designer for over 10 years, and I'm an overall graphics person. And what I'm here to talk to you about today is 3D in Photoshop. And you might be wondering, "Why is that important to me? I may be a photographer. I may be a graphic designer or illustrator." And what I'm here to show you today is that no matter what you do, there might be a place for 3D in your workflow. And the things that I'm going to show you today are going to... I'm going to introduce you to 3D in Photoshop. I'm going to show you how you can work with 3D elements. In this class, we're not going to work on creating the 3D elements. We're simply going to use presets or import 3D elements from other areas such as Adobe Stock or other websites. The reason that you want to do that is to simply enhance your images. If you're a photographer, you may want to use them for ba...

ckground elements. Maybe you take a picture of something, but you need a car in the background for whatever reason, you can use a 3D element for that. You can render photo-realistic 3D elements in photographs. If you're a graphic designer, you may want to use some for 3D text. In the past, in Photoshop, we would have to fake 3D, essentially paint extrusions and shadows and highlights and things like that to make a 2D image look three-dimensional. With 3D, you don't have to do any of that, so that saves you some time and it allows more creative freedom to create more interesting designs. As an illustrator, you can use one of the programs we're going to talk about today is Adobe Fuse CC, which is a tool that allows you to generate 3D characters without any 3D knowledge. We're just going to drag a bunch of sliders around and generate 3D characters. So as an illustrator, you can import those 3D elements into Photoshop and then arrange them to create your illustration. So, I'll show you how to do that today. Right before we get started on the first project, which is going to be a 3D Earth. I'm going to show you how to create a realistic-looking Earth. And I know some of you may be thinking, "Well, I'm never going to use a 3D Earth in my workflow. I don't do that." And everything that I'm showing you today is not for you to go home and replicate exactly. It's for me to demonstrate the capabilities that Photoshop has when it comes to 3D and then you can apply it to your own workflow at home. So for example, specifically talking about the first project, the 3D Earth project, we're going to be creating materials, which are textures that wrap around the 3D Earth. That process right there could be used for pretty much any 3D project that you use. So that's really the purpose of the projects that I am demonstrating for you today; for you to see the capabilities, not necessarily for you to go home and start building planets left and right.
