Shooting Curves Q&A
so let's open up q and a around posing curves because this is an ed onto my prizing menu and the reason it's an ed on is simon e people wanted more curves and they looked at the posing menu and there's not a lot of kids in there I wanted people to understand the same rules apply with everybody it's always about lengthening always pulling the arm away always creating the hourglass for slimming and um I created that isn't head on because I had so many hundreds of people requested in the opposing manual on the curves manual which is only eighty five dollars it talks about how I photoshopped curves because I do do post production on curves where I compromise like I said the back line in order to get a front line uh or the other way around to get a back line that I want tomorrow I'm going to slim curves on photo shop I think it is something a lot of people argue about kids slimming kids because a lot of people say you know it's what you're doing is not true except trixie but I look at it as...
an enhancement not a lie I didn't I always want to keep the integrity of the shape of their body so I think it's very important that you if you're gonna walk the line in that you keep the line as it is and I really only want to remove the little bits that people do not like I don't want to go out of my way to make somebody who's curvy a size zero because it's ridiculous I want to keep their antiquity but just take away lumps and bumps and flabby bits that people won't like that's my sort of philosophy on that so everybody has their own opinion about that couple people are wondering on the internet uh in regards to photographing more elegant women and they have a little bit more skin under their neck do you have when you have them push their chin down and just pull that straight forward and out and if there's anything more to do that photo shot always okay yes I've never had anybody say please leave my neck lines I never have anybody say please leave my frown lines and I've never had anybody say I loved those horizontal lines that go out this way on my forehead okay those are the three things women complain about on the face uh four actually muppet lines as well as you age these accord map it lines they go or jones you know in jail start coming forward and gels are hereditary people get them because other people have your family has them and people got oh I hate my jowls and so if you lift the chin forward and up and sculpt the face with posing you can eliminate a lot of naked but nobody even wants that an image so just trim it or lightly photo shop it or but usually they don't tell you that they don't like it question from clare of are a how would you approach shooting someone who is thick rather than curvy and similar to that from red but rebekah dream shot of france I what what about posing a woman with a stomach that is larger than her breasts okay that's important because you certainly not creating an hourglass with an apple and um most body types when they carry away don't particularly have um and in underneath the waste but what you do is that's when you dropped that when you go a little higher okay because the boobs the good thing is is regardless of the size of the belly the boat will always predict ford first because the camera angle is sitting at a place where the faces and focus first and then the boobs a second and then everything else dropped away so that's where you've got to really reclined forward pulliam away pull the boobs forward create as much space for here as you can and shoot a little bit higher that's the only time that you would really shake down on people when they are that you know larger there but same rules apply just keep coming up a little bit higher maybe instead of getting above people get them to recline down more to you because this this distinct look in a photograph where you can see the floor we've obviously shooting down on people that does not look very cool but if they declined all the way forward on a cheer so that the upper body is really predicting forward and they're really uncomfortably pushing their chin towards you it will draw them out and slim them out remember you're not trying to make everybody a size for your just trying teo make them look longer and slimmer than they are naturally so anything you do naturally you said it used today when you saw your photographs that you don't want to have this fear of seeing your photographs and going oh god even look fitter than I think I am don't you right you want to see yourself and go oh I look awesome you don't want to kind of go oh yeah that's a fact photo well that's a horrible photo off me so there's a little bit of stretching out that will make it better for anybody question from cell like god uh sal d'argo photo how do you deal with people who are not as voluptuous or curvy other than a push up bra okay I'm gonna push at brad for may um when I get lean bodies what I've tried to do is over extend them so when they are really lean and they straight up and down and I want cover gil poses I do get them to push in with their ways but I also get them to push out with the bomb so so it's almost uncomfortable for them from the front and then as long as I can get some shape in their body as long as I can move them and shape them as much as possible they do look over here yeah and once I meet once or twice maybe twice in my career have I made a girl's upper arms uh a little fuller and fuller shop because she had a very skinny skinny upper arms and they just looked really skinny and camera and I just literally did the same rule for slimming but just even the mountains and filled them out just a little bit that works the same way and a question jin from e she ish a curvy girls faces air sometimes a larger and the eyes look smaller is there a way to make the eyes pop or have wide open eyes without looking shocked no it's a really hard thing when there's lots of weight on the face the eyes do look naturally smaller but remember to ask they look smaller than photographing somebody with a clean face and big eyes but to them it looks like them so you know what you could do is once your level is slightly higher than them it will open up their eyes and jump their eyes out just a little wee bit and once they have nice big open eyes so just about the island which is we should be anyway also with shooting really lean bodies to make them look slimmer models with an anorexic am I still look normal weight when you shoot them from the ground so the lighter a girl is the lower you can shoot and it you know very few people other than the lollypop in being a little bit higher and having them tuned to the side with the heat looks really big for lean body not many people look too skinny in an image the camera is naturally quite offending yeah yeah uh question from theresa ahrens uh what do you do about bags under the eyes is this opposing lighting or post issue neither it's uh sorry it's opposed tissue yeah it's if the makeup I'm looking it like this if the makeup can't cover it and I can't get rid of it with a reflector then finish up I'll deal with that so what along that line is how bad it is well it will get dealt with at some stage we have a number of questions about eyes yes lf we khun touch on that shore a little bit more heavy top eyelids bags over the eyes photo shop okay so when you get a rolling lid it happens pretty much about thirty seven thirty eight the lid starts to drop down the aging of a woman's face the crow's feet start sort of about thirty too and they start high and as the aging goes up into the forties the crow's feet start coming down and then obviously the frown starts dragging forward and we start to get a drop down on the eyes wait deal with that with makeup when we do our lesh is if we do get a rolling lid and there's nothing you can really do about it it's it's the natural aging process and there's nothing you can really lift it I mean some people then go and do the extreme bo tox lift or you know and they won't have this movement here they'll lift up and then they looked very surprised I actually find the surprised look how to to deal with in a rolling lit because generally a rolling lid is caused by smile lines and if people have a close down lid and smile lines they often have very beautiful friendly eyes so it doesn't bother me if they have that friendly sort of I uh guitar goddess has a question how would you approach photographing someone with a symmetrical features like asymmetrical eyes would you have them tilt their head a certain way yes so I have an ace I differently have on asymmetrical face going on up here in my right hand side and I've seen a girl with him I up and over here quite significantly whenever she was straight onto the camera I found that here here which was actually naturally on their right side anyway when it came down over here brown line it looked more symmetrical and all I had to do is tune her face slightly off that way and her eyes came into perfect symmetry so like we just did with cement our simona there where we took her face and we went one two three and then we took it up that side and then upset that side islam is not going outside of the just watch for the face line in the airline you I've recently actually about two years ago head the single most beautiful three sisters I have ever seen in my life and one of the girls had a fully inverted I and they were just the most beautiful girls now obviously this is something that is noticeable to me from the second she walked in nobody talked about it so I deal with this in this kind of way I always say to people if they have a a burn or a sky or a booth mac or an obvious obvious thing about them I know they're gonna talk to me about it if they don't then I say this tell me about your I tell me about your eye now her option right there is to say I don't want to talk about it or sure and it started because my sister in law uh was born with an inverted I and she's had an operation tio have it stitched back to this I so they stitched him moved to give up in her lifetime she's had this operation nine times and she has some scarring now around her eyes even though she has the most magnificent beautiful big eyes when I met here I could see that there was obviously something going on with her I so I said to hear when I first meet it and tell me about your eye and she went and everybody went oh my goodness you know that moment where it's like did she really say that and she said to me I'm so glad you asked because I always think people are looking at it but they never asked me what it isthe about it and I want to talk about it so she told me about the operations etcetera so when this girl came and I was kind of equipped for it and I said tell me about your eye and she said well I've had stephen operations in it I don't want to have another one it doesn't work I have a ll the stuff they keep putting it back it comes back so I just I'm fine with it my boyfriend's fine with it I said okay and then I asked the inevitable question do you want me teo change that and photoshopped or do you want to leave it as it is it is entirely up to you and she said can you fix there and I said if that's what you want I will fix it she said so she said yes I want you to fix it and put it up and I said okay so literally took a lesser off her other eyeball and matched it with that when I dropped it into all of the images and that's her choice to fix that change that it's not even fixing that's whatever you wanted today but yes dough I say that I invite that by saying let's talk about your I I had to go with the big trachea skye I said tell me about your scar there's a story behind everything and if they tell you a story they feel connected to you by telling you this story and every story to do with a woman's body or anybody's body has an emotion with it because every emotion and every story they can tell you something and what it meant to them so when somebody stands in front of you to tell you a beautiful story about a scar they can tell you the emotion behind it and then somehow you have connected to one of the most personal parts of who they are and when she told me about the sky the story she was quite shaky and I said to a cold do you want me to take this happened photo shop and she said no it is part of who I am that's her choice so her choice not mine and I'm never even if I never feel like I can't ask somebody those had christians because I should be able to ask them that fabulous thank you question from a darla sharp photo do you do anything different for curry girls with short hair I just don't blow the hair so obviously yeah I love long here I love blowing it sir with the kiddie or not it gets blown or it doesn't get question from henry henry okay okay y ha skiles what do you suggest if the client has unattractive or extra chubby hands we had a couple of questions about hands that might have I don't have long fingers and I have short stumpy thinking so in the world or fingers I tend to be you know maybe I didn't line up with the really nice hands table when they were putting me together and I kind of think it and I used to really not like my hands a lot but any hands no matter how chubby or how broad they are in fact I find more women with manly hands than I do with chubby hands you know kind of big hands and a lot of woman that will go I hate my hands and hold their hands like this like oh I hate my hands I'm belly hands works for everybody and if they're really big hands and they don't look good up around the face do not put them up around the face you know it doesn't limit you having things like that but you just worked through your limits and you can still do all of the reclines and get them to relax from side on and those still have belly thinkers from side on and hand will look long but do not bring it up here but if they've got big an attractive pains and you can't make them feminine even though you're working with professional hair on the set do you ever find that you have to do a lot of post processing on fixing any stray hairs nava I don't weigh don't really have straight here sometimes I make here bigger so I used the same tools for slimming and that I do to make here bigger because I often will say to simona bigger I want bigger here I love big here you will notice by all the shots that I take on all the time like bigger sanders here we're pulling pills out amanda's here we were both ing them up as much as we can suppose we were blowing it out I love big here that I think it's really sixteen gorgeous sir I team to make here bigger and sometimes if we don't pull that off in the chute I will make it bigger and post and t why do you want to head home big here it's like you know that's the sort of hear that we look at effect may have a bit of a joke about that whenever we see someone we think here we always look at each other I love big here I think everybody should have big here just so you know a little joint when I was growing up in high school my nickname was miss alabama all the navy's child I got the kid but I've always had that like the whole beauty create loyal big myths alabama and it's gorgeous question had come from a couple folks about broad shoulders yes like swimmers and and who want to look a little bit more delicate I'm not a broad shoulders I think bored shoulders a gorgeous what I hate is bored shoulders that are lifted up okay so that one of the hardest things that I've ever had to do is to get people to stop lifting these shoulders up and that's why I'm constantly saying long nick lift up long neck lift up because the city should lift the neck up away from the shoulders the shoulders go softer and more feminine I never do any of the role ford poses because if they got bored shoulders and they bring their shoulders for like this they just looked like you know weightlifters straight away so it's about dropping the shoulders back and lifting up long through the nick long and tall lifting ride up and creating length I had a girl one day with an amazingly hot swimmer's body and swimmer's can have very big shoulders and no traps well no nick you know they can have the real high traps and in every one of her shots I felt like her nick looked really short even though through the entire shoot I was like pulled in a kapo unique up long push your shoulders down pull the kneecap in one of her beauty shots I actually uh extended here make a little wave it just because I wanted one beautiful long make shot and she was really really broad but you know anything like that again you try and fix imposing if you don't get an imposing you don't want to change their body too much it's still here snake in her shoulders so she's used to having board shoulders you just want to make it get those elbows in so even if the shoulders are wide the elbows are still in so you're getting that beautiful hourglass and then nobody's looking at aboard shoulders they're looking at a type of waste another photoshopped a question from a ce clown do you advise clients not where broth er bras are tight straps so that you don't have to use that photo do it and for the shop later or do you just embrace it and little whatever they want I don't find I've given a lot of brass straight max but if I do I'm just removing photo shot but yeah I don't usually tell people to take anything off it doesn't really matter to me I kind of think you know if people want to be photographed with a bra on um I'll remove the brass trip on finish up what I want is for people to be comfortable so some people will go I want to do a skin shot I'm gonna take my brow so don't get straight max fine they can take their braff but if they don't want to I don't if I ask anybody to dance I just don't think about it like that watches I take off watches team to be really large they reflect a lot of light on the flat of the watch and they often leave a nice big mark around the rest so whenever I see it go sitting in here and make up I do say remove your watch thanks and if they have a spray tan and they've come to do a particular nude shoot or something like that then I would probably get them nude in a robe underneath here but I don't really think about it for just the skin shots question from abigail how do you pose women with big noses uh well there's the long nose that breaks the lip line when it comes forward so when the chin comes forward um so what you need to do is keep the chin sort of at a half way point instead of forging down because of sin is the tip of the nose touches the lips it doesn't look good and I actually have a friend who has that knows that she hates there when he knows touch does he talk live so often when you've got that knows it usually belongs to an ekg amorphous body type which ironically is long and lean so they have lots of other winning areas and other places where we push the chin forward and they've got a nice long lip nick analyze column body so they can have their chin forward and up very really belongs to amazement morph agora name off a body type so our body types come generically with a sitting here type a certain nose and lips type and in a certain body weight type ratio so we all kind of have something really amazing going on and we all have our quicks but each of us if you work with what's the best of everybody and just a little tip with that knows when it is really large and there is that little tip that comes down to the top of the lift I actually just trim the bottom of the knows about literally three millimeters so it just clears a top lip on my best friend I do that on her nose and she says to me you're the only person that's ever taken a nice photo of may it's because I've taken away the one little but she hates it still looks and tiling like her nice in her face and she now knows that I do this because I've just told everybody and you know it's because I love you and I want you to have a good night because I know you don't like it e t for michel de photography he's wondering if you how would you shoot a woman who was like a body builder how would you make her look more feminine well the body builders want to take the clothes off and posed for you so I photographed many bodybuilders body sculptors dancers and I've never met one that really just wants a pretty shot in a nice white dress um same thing again they often have really big shoulders really high traps so long nick and lots of feminine ons etcetera but mostly they want heart body staff they've worked hard on the body and they're quite happy to take the clothes off and I've never done a portrait ship also the six weeks that they prepare for competition they're quite happy to be in a bikini for the whole six weeks afterwards they'll lose their muscle mess really quickly so very really do you get a family portrait where a girl is incredibly mostly naturally and wants to look more feminine generally she's prepared his out for competition and she's quite happy to do everything that that she does to show it off and I love photographing come to it bodies that are really for competition because are they work so hard and it's such an art form and I really respect that they've worked so hard with the nutrition and their exercise and their great to photograph a question from c m ist leslie the photo what about a woman whose mouth is higher on one side uh I photographed a woman with bell's palsy so her face was fully paralyzed on the right side and there is a difference between a paralysis on the face in somebody with a slight smirk now mapo anna smokes to the left and who smile does not come up evenly from here it's mix to the lift but that's her face and she suits that so when it's their little quick then it's kind of cute dimples and it quakes to the left but this woman had a noticeably paralysed face on the right hand side and we discussed it on dh she chose teo only have daughters photographed and not herself because of this paralysis so I thought it was bell's palsy which goes away you know but uh she told me that twenty three years before she survived a brain tumor and they operated on her and one of the side effects was a paralyzed face and so she spent her whole life not smiling for photographs because she go up here in st paralyzed on this side and I said to hear well what if I could take a photograph of you and I could take the best photograph you've seen of yourself and I just challenged here and she said I'll let you take three photographs and that's it okay say this woman it took a lot of coaxing to do this and and uh what I actually did was I made his smile on the suit photograph and she said no I don't want to smile it can you just do one so she did a half smile and I just got it and then what I did was I less suited on fill it up and I flipped it so that his smile came up on both sides and when I showed her the image she was beside herself no she was absolutely beside herself she had an incredible photograph of hearing her daughters and I mean I don't want to say but photoshopped can fix this I want to be able to prove that I could do something and take a beautiful shot without overstepping the boundaries of what she wants to change about yourself all of these christians are I have never because I've been shooting for so long there's nothing you could throw at me that I have not experienced in some way but you you need teo look att everything the same way you need to have respect for the person and how they look what they like to change about themselves about well being realistic and there's a woman I know one thing I don't mind that I'm curvy but I don't want to have a double chin I don't mind that I'm forty but I don't wanna have a frown and thanks to bo tox I do not I don't mind all of those things that I know how old I am I know what my body type is and when I lean on something I want I don't mind being my size but I don't wanna have this flabby butt here hanging out and when I'm here I don't want to have that but there and when you show me those things I don't want to see those things because those are things I don't care about that I don't want so when I look at a photograph is a woman I look at it as it is I'm here now this brings up a really great magnet and you can think about this while we're eating lunch the five photograph a woman in a pose like this and you are appreciating her female forms she has a dynamite body you're watching the light go on to the kid of her back or maybe the curve of his thigh you are appreciating it whether you're a man or a woman photographer you are appreciating her body and going that is an incredible form and I'm going to photograph it now I do not shoot like that I do not look atyou and appreciate your form I look atyou like I am you and I'm going to look at this photograph and say I don't like that tubby bitch I want a long neck I want looks them I want my body to look heavy and hard I want to look really good I photograph you like you and me and I want to look the best I can look that is the difference I do not appreciate form and photograph a beautiful shot I want kept you in a full state of being you and full appreciation off yourself say when I look at a photograph off any other photographer I can't tell if you have empathy for her as a client's or whether you would just photographing what you appreciated about her beauty because if you don't if you photograph it an appreciation then you cease to deliver to the client maybe what she wants in herself and you were only saying what you liked about her not what she wass and I think there is a distinct difference between two wow that was really powerful so it's the truth yeah and when you look at images I want you to say that was shot by someone who's appreciating a body okay nudes this look at nodes no tim boudoir very similar needs just boudoir is just you know be clothing or better lace on but inherently I've never made money from notes I photographed a lot of nights I can get beautiful woman to pose nude for me but I've never had anybody come in and say I want a beautiful nude for leo and I will spend three thousand dollars on that because it is just not a big buying business and all the nude photographer's I know chic weddings and shoot node fine at for themselves so they're not photographing a body for a woman there photographing the appreciation off that form and their appreciation of that form will not pay your wages now I'm not saying don't shit nodes they're amazing to shoot nodes shooting notes makes you a bit of photography you learn about light doing about form and you get to take incredible shots that make you love the female form because generally when we talk nodes were talking about women uh but I'm just saying is that I'd like somebody to show me a business model where newt's makes money like portrait does because the note is taken for the admirers not for the note wouldn't you say that there is the same with portrait it's

Michael And Dawn
Dawn and I watched the workshop taught by Sue on glamour photography with much anticipation, and we were not disappointed. In fact after only the first hour we turned to each other and, at the same time, said "We should go ahead and purchase this course." Which we did on Sunday, the last day of the three day course. The CreativeLive team did a great job on producing the workshop, the set looked great, the sound and camera angles were unobtrusive as they should be, and the on-screen talent were engaging and approachable as usual. They interjected with questions from the audience in a timely and relevant manner, and humored us all at times as well. As it should be, the real star of the workshop was the information that Sue was providing, but a very strong supporting role was Sue herself. Even though she never made it past the 9th grade, she displayed enough wisdom to make us think that we wasted a lot of time sitting in school. Sue had both Dawn and I captivated, her likable New Zealand accent, was so warm and soothing, that I think we would have listened to her say almost anything. However, "anything" was hardly what she had to say, no-no, she had a great deal to say, and we found all of it so educational and inspiring that we can't wait to put what she tought us into practice. Sue's "Keep-It-Simple" approach to glamour photography is refreshing, she does not complicate a shoot, nor does she complicate the business end of things either. Her philosophy is "A confused mind says 'no.'" So her pricing, marketing and re-pore with her clients is simple, understandable and repeatable. Dawn & I fully recomend this course to anyone looking to engage in glamour photography, not just for the mechanics of learning the studio process, but more for how to think about the process and your interactions with the client, we think that Sue's interaction with her clients is her real "secret" to her success; she makes the photography session for the client a wonderful experience and that experience is what gets them to market her via word-of-mouth exposure, which is the best kind of atvertising and best kind of accolade for a photographer. Thank you Sue, we were both entertained and educated and a little bit mesmerized by your workshop. Hope to see you soon on the CreativeLive stage. Loving every moment of this course so far and I've learned so much from Sue's gentle but wise words. It's so important to be true to yourself and as much as I've enjoyed most of the Creative Live classes I've taken I've had a much different personality than many of the teachers, I am so happy to see how Sue is able to stay calm and quiet and still maintain perfect control of the situation...I had huge anxiety sometimes at shoots thinking I should be bold, boisturous or entertaining to be successful. Looking forward to following her class today in between my son's hockey games...so lucky my computer is in the kitchen and I can watch and still keep things at home fairly sane! lol thank-you, kerry www.snickerdoodles.ca

Watched 80% of it live and after constantly screen grabbing :D I BOUGHT IT. This was my 3rd time watching a CreativeLive and my first time purchasing a course. (Loved Zach and Jody and will probably buy that when the time is right...still a little scared about weddings.) ANYWAY - SUE IS AMAZING!!! She is so open, inspiring, fun, funny, knowledgeable, TRANSPARENT, giving, smart, creative, expert, unapologetic, grateful, enlightened, adorable, gorgeous, hilarious, yet still imperfect and human and not intimidating. She will make you laugh and cry as she laughs and cries. You cannot argue with her MANY YEARS of experience. She is just in love with what she does and it is contagious. I have told people IN PERSON that her online CreativeLive course changed my life. I bought another online course for 2K last year...where was Sue back then? This is worth more than the 2K 6 week course I took. I obviously have a girl crush on her! www.CarolineWhitePhotography.com
