Aries Shoot: Naia Part 1

I washed my hands oh yes that's good, eh? So we change the diaper and where it's still a slave way didn't stay awake for long shared her she's nice no cool you got a full time yes thanks. So you guys I'm gonna show you coming if you got the picture of the horn just bring up the horns right? We'll walk around that way so that it's just going to show you how we do this right? So that's the horn now right? And we're going to in photo shop we're gonna take out that in the bits of string and everything if you come around this way you'll see how we're going to do this just mind just steer you don't this's stone macgowan who doesn't make sure these beautiful props and costumes and everything we've worked together for a long time and so now I was going to be lying on this area here we should be warming up and it's all it's all good all pending and everything round the back and we've got a little bit of foam and all that sort of thing they're going to prop up all the bits that he leave hopping ...

up and so she's you told that imaged in you yeah so her little heads here and she's just lying there with their hand underneath the chin and on your legs e and so way just write this over the top of her and she just needs to sleep and john are standing here next to her and now loose over the other side so you get that the fun part you can sit on this chair and you can watch on the screen and see how she looks and yeah so just mind your step through there the courts have shaken to its eggs exactly oh my ashes burn on the fourteen so how you feeling? Okay he said is here with number three uh parts of it were is your parson it harder? Uh my sister had three. No one warned me that when you pressed me that third that it hurts a lot more with the contracting of the uterus thing that happens when you breastfeed it was a lot more painful this time around, but other than that it was easier my sister said you got you got to yes and you got two hands and what do you do with three way they're old enough is a way to get you apparently that's what? Your big tick? Yeah, right my hands, john fantastic way when you have them in your pockets for two non pocket like oh no, my little bits of chewing for good what you do with my weight on it put the booth this is stan marsh just step oh, poor doing without anyone show just in case you never know what could you lift your right? Yeah about the time we get footage that's much snow some greatly perfect cute is that you know your place sweet just like things done that's why doesn't she just wear the hat? Excuse me? Oh yeah little this works and tuck it and there was that I'll leave you guys to do this you want to stay here while they're doing that? I want to watch them they want just keeping on that makes us e needs to know who's in charge she's beautiful looking a little fax so as you what did you feel when you saw her put the hat on because I saw your face that hat is just so it's, so clever it's so it's, so beautiful like I between the sketches and you want to stand yeah so you can see and and we talked about it for so long this hat but until you're serious actually little little marino lands have it's a specific well type and it's a tightly coiled bits of wall and this is tow resemble their different links of the wool and everything is great. I just want to make sure she doesn't appear people consider what I'm saying right now is how they're all working together uh with each person was exactly what they are supposed to be doing can you guys see that as well parents and so every little every little detail on I don't want to take an away exactly from from what she's doing but it really is I know it really is incredible to watch final details so we can't really see exactly what's going on over there too closely maybe I can come and talk with the parents again while they're doing that so how long have you been and gettis fan? I remember saying things like in high school even to understand a poignant phrases jeremy standing tough all right, okay a lot scared over here remember seeing them in high school like even but um you know, they were always very cute I remember she first came out and it was a new thing these pictures of babies and flowers are bugs or whatever and it was adorable and my husband had no idea what I was talking about when I told him what we're doing today but yeah, you know, like in high school remember saying that's really adorable I'm seeing the calendars and the diaries and everything so so what's it like toe actually now be here today with their baby it's fun so far this is our first big outing well since you've had her this's fun for us right now because I got to get out of the house no it's very exciting to get to meet her and see what comes behind the pictures behind the scenes that's fantastic thank you so much for you for being a part of it I think that this is totally normal part of the process what happens during these shoots but we've got all four of them working hard at that and I think that's the nature of anne's work especially with newborn yes these ones is just that patients and just that creating this relaxing environment so that way work with babies so it looks like for everybody at home it looks like we're picking the baby it back up out I'm sorry I totally forgot her no no thank you no you were picking maya back out um jonah amar nurses rocking her a little bit more again and I think this is just the nature of how it all works I could watch them do their thing probably thank you so she should I've been riding you sign a legal document that jonah's just walking with her toe the line is this pretty much what it feels like you really knew it's pretty normal and particularly the first baby which is kind of getting the angle of the um horn rush right so it's yeah I'll be right they're putting in lots of heading and things like that and the farm has been wrapped with fabric that's similar to the horn so you know you want to see it when it's underneath there so it's exactly it's just you just goto you know what that's fine so this is the first baby and we have way haven't least two more babies here behind the scenes like you said we have a baby's room that's that's back there were the like a spa eyes they're narsingh man I think it's because it's soundproof you know it's really because that they use it in a studio yeah that's great that's great so you know you had to be very patient when you're doing this sort of work on dh not try and rush anything and just you know that so ideas and they'll take what it takes and someone it's a totally different she's back asleep this totally different environment to shooting six month olds like yesterday this noisy and because that's the way that you react to things so tell me a little bit more we saw this a little bit in the mom's room about but how you talk to the parents about expectations as well I heard you say it doesn't matter if they don't want to sleep exactly it's absolutely fine maybe a little arms hanging down jonah it's hard to concentrate when you're doing all of this absolutely way we were talking about them we were talking about that area said the symbolism and all of that and and all of those little details that as an artist that you think about and put into the peace but that aren't necessarily a parent right away but isn't that some of the beauty I know it's it's interesting it's some of the beauty of ash and and what I do that people can discover little things in there it was interesting when we were talking for so long through other day you know, going through the history ofthe and people khun obviously listen to that interview but going through the history of when I started with down in the garden and and the way we made all the props and things like that you know and all of the memories because I can pretty much remember what it was like that every single shoot and how are props have evolved now and what we're actually doing today I think there are a lot more sophisticated but down in the garden was so much fun ondas apri photoshopped days you know what we're doing here today, right? We could never be doing here it's just you know it's just because you just can't do it so how much of then has changed for you in terms of the way that you are able to pre visualize these pieces with the mindset that you have other tools? Well I can certainly imagine things in different ways had to be so practical in the old days because of the limitations you know and there's a lot of talking photography circles or everywhere really about, you know, going from film to digital yes and you know this present constitute too both but to me in chains of my work and what I can achieve and like think about doing things like the signs of the zodiac I don't think it would have been possible, you know, in the days of pre photo shop just wouldn't have been so it's really enabled a whole lot of artists and creative people to extend that level of creativity into something else on do you see that in what's happening in movies and and everything today yeah, all their computer graphics isn't that interesting how to technology influences absolutely, but it doesn't necessarily with my doesn't necessarily need to be I view it, but even in really subtle ways lycan in this really subtle way, you can just do things that are really beautiful that you couldn't do before if we if we do have the capacity um, could we talk a little bit about how we could thank christ because we're pretty excited about what we're doing and talk about how we want to feel like you're chilly pockets in your jonah what them over for me from australia? Thanks you'll not find a way so jonah has just been rocking the basically yeah, we just need to get them into a deep sleep and the transfer's used to be really smooth, you know, just less fiddling the better, so hopefully we've refined but I'll just go okay please just me place please well, maybe I can bring everybody up to speed on what we're doing here today for folks who might just be joining us. I'll just you who maybe weren't with us yesterday? What came was just referring to in terms of the conversations that she and I had had was when she first came and a few days ago we sat down and had about a a three hour conversation are quite in depth conversation about her autobiography, a labor of love and what was so exciting was to hear and tell the story it's about her early beginnings about starting off. Maybe we can ask her about this again later, but going door to door with her husband, cal truly starting that business from scratch out of a garage. I am, um seeing that journey, seeing her progress, she's shot all over the world, she and cal moved to hong kong and she was able to start a business there. So we go through this entire sort of oral history of a labor of love and her background so that in terms of what we're doing here as part of this event is additional bonus footage uh, that when you do upgrade to own this experience and own this course it's not only all of what we're doing here and you're seeing live but some additional footage in addition to what we talked about during that a labour of love stories is some of the footage of the behind the scenes footage of of anne and her team setting up the lighting all these things that we were doing a preparation so that we could be here with the babies today so if you are interested in owning and owning this course you can click on the blue by button that's how it works for you to be able to have access to this at at any time you're still rocking the baby to to sleep over there take a peek I thought you'd already done it fits perfectly it's a stretch just turned over outside seethe with waves just waiting for a little you know well settled you just go into a deep sleep that I loathe let's hope again a little bit about um sort of this that you talked about the expectations for the parents but that that this is normal pretty relaxed it's normal you cannot rush in your body yeah right tone here on the side it's just the way it normally it's you know nice and relaxed and she's sort of one eye open everyone at home was relax and step from their teeth also make yourself cover to be really be really I had a baby I photographed a newborn once this look with his I hope them I heard you're on sit what did you do another two I couldn't you know generally you know, rub down the nose and they close their eyes and he was just like with the size and what you don't know that it is well that's universal sign for go to sleep and his mother said no his sleeps like that myself open wonderfully still doesn't know his phobia about team just go back and you think it's cool that you're really works go on you put that round um I'm just gonna take it and decided just talking rather than tithe jonah what you doing? E o get baby sleeping she's just I'm sure she doesn't come come remove stroll in here wasn't honest and just come back with school darling great like that come what may you toys? We're called way. So what are we doing that um nana is going back to be fish talking about practical matters she was asleep what's probably happened as she was asleep and then showed a dirty diaper. Yes. Ashamed to sit home and silvery again by the time we changed that and she's come back to sleep just just a little bit borderline might be hungry again so she's going back to have another fate fantastic I'm gonna just pushed my hand it's okay before another by becomes in so we're going to bring out I knew another baby one way where you've got this little voice that's running on the top of your head yeah but I always wash my hands everyone just between baby so if you excuse me for a minute what I'm wondering is it looks like we did take the outfit off of the baby so that when the next one comes and we can get him or her dressed again right and here each of them is wearing a little a little tank top underneath as well and we're just readjusting wow ehm is washing her hands and we've got a lot of love coming in here from the internet I love people reading reading everyone's comments and memories and stories if you go to ann's facebook page actually people have been posting pictures of themselves in their favorite um and gettis whether it's a poster are or cards or what have you so that's been really fun yeah please this is a great time for that and I wanted teo ducks um something's coming in from the folks at home on line so I want to read some of those out sure sibyl has said and it's so gracious during this process I particularly like how she gives credit to each member of the team she seems like one of those people that would go over a cliff for and working with her that everybody you know loves working with you not everyone has that gift so kudos to you your stuff the team my team is so, so important because I'm standing here and I know that jonas back there with a newborn and everything's going to be going smoothly you know it's it's just makes such a difference toe work for it really does so I have a question from socks girl I love people's little nicknames are a little chinese going back to what you were saying about just wanting to just wanting a baby to sit there and smile um but that's not exactly always what you're looking for right? I wouldn't have you ever think about something like maybe for the line picture you thought you wanted a baby to sit there and give a big smile but then you get different expressions like doing the tailor yawning and you decide you actually like those better so oh you want true is what changes from yesterday yeah talk about the elements of surprise that happen for you in what you envisioned and what happened yes, I'm I'm coming way had a baby yesterday who was yawning in the lines and straight away it wants all excited it's roaring and everything but that's just not me it's not the way I want to portray babies, you know like things a lot of so called funny pictures of babies out there I should find them really quick I just don't really go for that sort of things how I wouldn't actually use something like that that was like oh that's so funny rather the action reaction wass or how beautiful is that I'm so drawn into that baby is supposed to standing there laughing at it percent on some question I think so what are some of the other surprises that whether it's not yang per se but that because I know yesterday at the end of the day when when I think somebody said well, did we get a smile and your response was not always looking for our there was there was a very interesting oh fantastic um image that I did years in musical um and got the nickname cheesecake and it's in until now one of my books don't say it's certainly in a labor of love so we have got to get period where we can touch on it but I was doing portraiture and this is a great example of you know, babies come up with unexpected andi even better sort of scenarios and uh I was doing a portrait sitting for a little baby call philip who was eight months old and her mother lived out of out of the city and she had a magnificent rose garden and she called a few days before and said, you know, you want me to bring a bunch of roses so I couldn't bring buckets of roses and so of course I said, oh look it's a big great, you know and now with a beautiful, beautiful old country roses you know that lovely and sort of soft and alderson incredible and she turned up and she had, like six buckets of these roses in the back of the car and so she came up to the to my reception area intercept philip it down on the carpet in reception and I walked in to say hello and there was this little baby just sitting there and looked up at me with this really incredible smile with the faysal screwed up and you know, it's like that's all my god, that is so call your mother walked in and said I hate it when she smiles like that I'm like you carry no it's fantastic she said, oh, well, if that's what you want, then you just do that and show replicate it, right? So we had a bit of roses on a table and I was up in the on a ledge in the ceiling and I do a lot of photographing from above down onto a scenario. You know, I must tell you about the pools when we get to it on a god and so we had to de thorn all the roses and they're going to ask about that instead of a bed of roses yeah, better process so we snip them all off the top is magnificent a long stem roses and snipped all the tops off di thorne, everything and philip was lying in the middle of these roses, you know, kind of looking up like you really weird up there. And we were trying to do that smile and and she was just looking and looking and looking. And then all of a sudden she did, you know, and you can see our show the image later in a labor of love just lying there and she's in the perfect position. And she's got the most incredible smile that no baby is ever replicated since then. Yeah, with a little teeth and and, you know, that's when it all comes back to you you think there is just so magical that's awesome and it's a gift, right? It's like they give you a little gift and it's so fast and then you've got to be there and ready be quick. Well and I think that's what I was just gonna say it sort of is what we're all experiencing right now is that we know we trust you trust that magic is going to happen today as it did yesterday. Sometimes you just like a place to sleep. That's all yeah it's so comfortable, please, and sometimes it's angle of the moon way can really get him in the end, so you just mentioned girls this's a fabulous story as well that I told you yeah, I would love I would love for those folks at home to hear about this one I was in the far north of australia in darwin and dow and is the home of pest fairly pearls who they're one of the largest peeling companies in the world and you know I love pills I just think that just so it's a beautiful day from nature you know, this is all pretty bit in a shell and your tights on baby yeah, well it is in a way yeah and I've been up in the tv islands photographing too little aboriginal babies who were in a really big oyster shell and that's another story in itself but we came back to darwin and someone introduced me to one of the people who were failing and once a year they have the pool harvest. In fact, one of my my twenty eight year old daughter a few years ago went and spent a season on the pooling votes right character building stuff for these young people you know, they all live on the boat and yeah are stiff scotch if you got the picture there oh yeah bring it in yeah this is my daughter stiff yet as people who were watching yesterday I would know and so once a year they have the pearling harvest and in this massive safe all of these pills they gathered right so this a few months before and I said oh how do what do you think if I did a shot with elise pills and you know the very sort of laid back up there and this fella I said oh yeah you probably how many and and I was like what uh a few buckets full you know and his iou okay right so we did it and we were in a tiny little anteroom outside this mess of safe and I was up in the scaffolding and the ceiling I had about this much room I had to crawl in and someone handed me the camera through the hole to photograph and we had this massive bit of pills on dh and I was just up there going we need mohr we need more gold here we need more gray we need more cream and they were tipping them out of these plastic bags because that'll been grated so all of these graders who probably spent weeks and make some weeks grading this filled with just being in their life no no no and and so is as it turned out I have it in here yeah I said to nick passed barely a few years after this image I said how how much we're alike pills with on his side twenty three million twenty three million yeah us twenty three million years is about twenty seven twenty nine million australian dollars at the time yeah so this was in nineteen ninety four don't remember that question I had the big pearl to remember jones rolling your eyes why the time it took the pool up there in the crate and the paint wasn't dry and my god it was just you know but some of the stories credible straw and a little baby hey hey was the only one who would sleep and it was incredibly stressful because I knew that if I didn't get that shot right then we wouldn't be able to to sprinkle the pills out again tomorrow it just wasn't not possible and hey was a really, really light sleeper and into the bag and he had the hiccups and so we were warming the pearls in her hands because you know too or something because I really want them to be nice and room temperature we want to cover his privates and so whenever we put the pearls around and onto his tummy he hook up with darryl roll off you know, some of the practicalities, you know, you just have to deal with that and finally he just went into a really light sleeper and I got a few images and but then it was in the film days on end I didn't know until we went back and got the film developed as to where the real action shot worked yeah, but after he took the big pull out, we will have little roll around in pills and took photos, goes in. The book probably went supposed to, but, no, they're not. No, they're not be private, never there's. Some great stories in there, really great stories, which is way had filmed and talk through talking through the beginning of your career as well. Yes, and there's, a lot of people now who are beginning their careers and a little bit on certain and trying to find their own style. And so, hopefully by listening to that interview, because I do talk about what it was like in my early years and and how terrified I wass, um, you know, that the thought of all that lack of knowledge that I might have had, and, um, and how much it doesn't really matter after a while, you know, just go find your own style.
