Adding Melted Crayon

We're gonna add some wax, which in this case is a box of ninety six crayolas get my kranz ready, you guys um here this is basically a wood burning tool. Um we're just using it for not worth burning and I'm using the biggest basically the biggest palate um, tradition that you can use yours aren't on yet because they heat up really fast so when you guys are ready for this part just turned him on so that they heat up but they get really hot really fast. So just be careful and teach you a trick for taking the paper off. I just take my scissors and score my cran and then the paper just kind of peels off a lot easier because otherwise you sit here in your picking and picking and picking and we're going to use enough of the cran thatyou wantto get the paper off of it so you guys can start thinking about other complementary colors that you want to just kind of blend in or if you want something that we really pop off, start picking a few different cran colors you're gonna want to use and the me...

tallics could be really cool to have used silver a lot and you get that like metallic e little look, which is fun there's just something about a new box of crayons that just makes my day the reason I'm here is what I will tell you guys, this is something I'm brand loyal to a few things for a few reasons funders coloring I'm fine with whatever koreans I have and I say that as an adult in her thirties, I'm okay with any koreans, but when I'm doing this I typically try to stick to creole as a brand because when you melt it down you were going to get a moral pick result than if you use like a generic creon and I tended to gravitate to buying the generic ransom because I knew I wasn't going to color with him I was going to melt them down and I actually ended up spending more money to go back and re by kranz because the color just is extremely translucent and you lose a lot of the color pop when you melt them down it's just however, of the cranes are made with the colors added to him, they just react differently to the heat. So for what I do with my kranz, which is mel tem um I actually gravitate towards a higher and cram for that reason, so if you want a translucent look, then by all means I find that actually the cheaper the cran, the more translucent the result, I just think it all comes down to the properties of how they make them so you just learned more about crans and probably ever thought you would but that's okay okay you guys have your kranz we can start taking the papers off so it's okay to take the paper off you want teo I have a question while you're doing that with stuff that my friend should one be concerned about water based pens versus oil based I intend to stick to water based as much as possible just because everything I do is very water based again it's just a matter of what you're doing and we're going to do with it when you're done oil based has great properties and you can use it for a lot of stuff but so does water based so it's just a matter of what what media you're going to use and if you're going to say anything back over it or not so like if we tried the reason why we dec a posh the whole thing now that if I tried to put deca posh across this all of that in could smear so if you want to keep adding those layers that in test your oil pens and see how they react teo and see if they were going to smear or not the properties within the deco pies tend to react weird with pens just in general so um I'm just more comfortable with water based stuff I would say that's why probably use it the most so okay, so I can smell it I can see it. This is extremely hat so just don't do what I'm doing. I've done this a few times you want tohave paper towels handy or we've got baby wipes too make sure that you get down to the bottom where they're what and just to clean it off you're really just gonna touch it very quickly don't want to hold it on there because this thing is it's burnt wood and it we'll burn through paper than very, very quickly so this is very technical I want you to know you wanna take your cram, you're gonna put it to the heat tool and the cran is going to drip and you're going to get these little waxy spots all over and what I like to do is kind of pull it away so that I get big ones little ones you can aim it right where you want it, you put the point down now it'll start to smoke so that's when all wipe it off quick if we weren't on camera, you'd see me doing this on my apron, but I'll be good and not do it that way um you can hold it over a spot and then just put the cran to it and then it'll drip right where you want it or you can just do that to its up to you and I then wipe it off before I change colors unless you want to swirl then you can mix your colors but again be careful we talked earlier about making mud you can definitely make mud very easily doing this if you don't clean it off I had to switch hands because I'm doing it the wrong lake demo ing so I'm like doing it the way you guys yeah and if you get it on your quote, don't worry about that because you can just literally going with your fingernail and scrape it off so if you cover up a letter or something we can everything like I said everything could be fixed so don't worry about you can't mess this part up if you don't like it, it scrapes off so unlike the paint you can fix this in terms of putting it on too thick and then you need to take it off. I wasn't saying don't do this right under your smoke detector in your house so if you have a smoke detector in your room it will go off so you'll just want to move to a spy, which means it's doing its job. But if you don't want to hear that just moved to a different spot to do this, my problem is I start doing this and then I just it's fun to make splatters I can't stop and I'm like, oh you mean stop theatre thing is you want to make sure for the most part your heat gunning has done you look but that's a lot like it um you wanna make sure your heat gunning is basically done because if you take the heat gun to this to dry anything you're gonna melt the wax again so all that's why we're kind of doing things on the stages and the steps that we do them in so that you're not um re melting and re melting there'll be a tiny bit of that that we'll end up doing when we do the bee's wax but just in one little spot so it's okay you guys doing okay over there yeah the hardest part for me is usually just getting the paper off should like that should not be the most difficult part of this but for me like this is one of my kids like they're like krantz just don't bring yourself they're old enough that it's okay I promise I'm not giving this to a three year old's deal or anything but my youngest is nine and he is very much an artist in the making and anytime I do stuff like this he's right down there with me going who I want to try that and I learned stuff from him because like what if you did this and I'll be like oh that's a great idea let's try and find out he's like my my sidekick when it comes to this kind of stuff detective, I think everybody when you look at this they're like oh should have splattered some paint but the wax just gives it a totally different look a different feel it's a different finish and plus when it smells like crayons when you want by it someone from our online audience this wondering if you get crown in some place like the quote that you're we're facing right now can you get it off earlier off of this? Yeah this if you get it on the carpet a little bit of a different story it'll scrape up any hard surface it's going to scrape right off anything porous so if it's like an unfinished wood surface it's gonna be a little bit harder to scrape it off and then for a like carpets and rugs and stuff like that it's hi, you have a beautiful colorful carpets do you have to be careful about that? I did it in the shop one time as a a different class and I was teaching and we've got shows like beautiful hardwood and I just remember sitting on the floor little scraper, scrape it all off for florida feltz about because the class was like, this is a bomb and there's like wax flying everywhere and stuff so you do have to be careful about what's on your floor but if you stay within your surface and you've got a hard surface you're fine again like we said you could always put down a protective layer to a paper or something like that sorry but yeah I should just travel with the drop cloth that's what it was like it's kind of be a mass so this is when I start to go should I stop should I add some more there's me I'm sorting added oh and I think I just did what I said not to and I might have gotten some on iraq but that's okay I promise I'll try to get it up and it will scrape off your finger when it drops on there but it does hurt a little bit how you guys feeling okay okay all right you guys already done and I'm still like you crane there's just something about this and I feel like as adults when we were kids this was the kind of stuff that we would do this for hours and this was fun and as adults we don't give ourselves the times to play like we did back then and there's just something to be said about the what it does for your stress levels to just too silly stuff like trip cran wax and things so a big proponent of adult play I really am okay so I'm gonna turn when you're done just make sure you turn these off right away um maybe sit on the sites you don't bump it in any way because it is extremely hot I'm going to show you guys quickly I got some wax purposely on some words so are you gonna d'oh is just take your fingernail and go in it'll scrape right off you might have a little tiny bit of color residue left behind but you'll still be able to read it so like here it's completely over my tea is take your time and don't scratch the paper off and if you do that here's a look a teachable moment when you scratch too hard he's talking just fix it it's there or if I don't like my hand rating enough to do that you can just cut another one out put it down and you're going to be good be a little less heavy handed this time and if you don't have fingernails because some people just don't I like to keep long fingernails idea because I do stuff like this you can just use like a little um be careful like a toothpick or something but you could just use a little anything that's kind of a blank edge and it'll come off all right a cramp I told you guys it z stupid funny e I've done in on everything from scrap quickly hosts to art pieces like this and I don't know there's just something about it and like I said it's such true colors you know, there's, no question what color you're going to get, especially you stick with the creole owens just because, like I said, when you melt them down with the other, sometimes you're like, oh, that is not what I wanted. The little clear puddle of blue. But with this and it's, like it's, just so bright and it's, just easy and fine. And I love it.
