Choose Your Shopping Cart Platform
Now I want to talk about the check out process because this is really, really important, and the reason why this matters is because you have so many choices when you are thinking about setting up your online store and not every choice is right for everyone when someone asked me, well, which one do you recommend? Well, it depends because you might have the for needs than you might have the for needs and there isn't one solution that is the answer for everyone, and you have to be flexible to because your needs my change. I know for me, when I first started my teacher business, I started out with zen card and after about two years ice sort of felt like I was out growing it and I switched to big commerce and we're going to talk about both of those in just a second, but my needs changed as a business owner and your needs are probably going to change, too, and what you started with my not be what do you end up with? And I know some of you in the break were talking about your using award pres...
s plug it and you feel like you want to switch to something else and listen to that when you feel like you're not getting what you want out of your shopping card it's definitely time to consider changing and switching to something new so before you switch or as you're making this which there's a lot of questions you have to ask yourself, so first of all, how soon do you want to get your store up and running some shopping cards? You literally you can do it in as little as ten minutes. Others might take you weeks or months to get started. So how soon do you need a new shopping cart in place and that's going to help you determine which platform you actually choose, and then what's your budget for it? How much money do you have to spend? You have two d only have one hundred dollars to invest in a new shopping guards you have ten thousand dollars. Do you have a thousand dollars? What is your budget? And based on that, then you can choose different platforms. That makes sense for your budget. And there really is a shopping card for every single budget, their shopping carts that are free. My first one that I started with zen card completely free to install. Now I did have to hire someone to install it for me. But if I knew what I was doing completely free, you don't have to pay anything. So think about your budget as well, and would you rather pay an initial setup fee, or do you want to pay ongoing monthly fees and I know some of you might be thinking, oh, I want to avoid ongoing monthly fees, but there's definitely a lot that makes sense why you should do that, and we're going to talk about the pros and cons of that in just a second, but not everybody's in the same place some of us don't have a huge upfront investment. Maybe we really loved the look of a certain shopping card, but we don't have ten thousand dollars, so we're going to go with a solution that's only nineteen, ninety five per month and you don't have to pay that huge investment up front. So think about that, too, and then what technical skills do you have? I know for me, I knew a little bit of what design and ice sort of knew howto set stuff about anything technical I did not know how to do so I had to hire someone to do it and think about yourself. Some of you love web design, some of you don't some of you know what you're doing when it comes to your website, others don't so think about where your ad with your own tenant, technical skills and we'll make sense for you and what doesn't make sense for you, and then also think about how many products do you want to sell? I know some shopping car platforms. They'll tell you that at this tear off membership you couldn't sell up to ten products. And then if you want to sell more, you have to upgrade. Some will have an unlimited amount of product. So look at your needs and think about what it is that you want and how many products you have to sell. And then that will help you to make that informed decision about your shopping cart. Then you also want to think about how do you want your store to look? There are so many different looks out there, someone really simple and clean. Others is a lot of information. But again, what do you want, what's your branding look like? And will the shopping cart plot from that you choose? Reflect that as well? I know this is a lot of questions, but you really do have to consider all of this before you make your decision. But again, keep in mind your decision can change and probably will change at some point as your business grows. Also, think about do you want to integrate with already existing to also, for example, if you have a wordpress site, do you really want to switch to a different platform, or do you just want to get a plug in for your wordpress site, so that way you don't have to switch anything and you just add a shopping cart onto your web site and what features are important to you were talking in the break about uploading products. Oh are uploading photos that's really important to some people? Other people might want an affiliate program to run their online store. Some people wanted to coupons other people don't want to do coupons. Some people need to integrate with a fulfillment house because they eventually want to work with a full fullman house. So these air also features that you can think about that you might want a need in an online store so what's important to you, what features do you absolutely have to have? And as the shopping cart platform that you choose does it actually have most of those features that you need? It might be hard to find everything you want into one platform, but it's really not impossible, and with all of the tools and add ons and plug ins and all of that that you can get nowadays, you really can customize your shopping card to do whatever it is that you needed to dio, but most importantly, have to pick the shopping card that's right for you right now, and that can change it probably will change it. Changed for me every single time I've started. My business is, and I know some of you are considering changing your shopping carts as well. So be flexible. Don't be tied to just one shopping car because you started with it everything. As an entrepreneur, I feel really should be flexible here.
