Sync Settings & Libraries

So let's look at other features that have added if you go to your preferences there's a choice here called sync settings in with sink settings this is useful. If you have more than one computer or if you go from home to work, we're quite happy. Your computer on the other end is someone else's. Well, there might be a whole bunch of settings that you like to use before your preferences. Maybe you have custom brushes. Maybe you have grady in't preferences. You know, when you apply the grady in't tool contours have to do with if you ever use bevel in boss, you know that choice where you have dropped shadow stroke in that whole list of effects, one of them is bevel in boss and it has something called a contour. Built in workspaces is where you can save the position of all your panels on the screen in what size they are the colors that are in your swatches, palette shapes, tool presets all this kind of stuff. ould like to be able to use on that other machine and I can click the upload button up here, and if I do, it will upload it to your creative cloud account that you get along with your creative cloud subscription and then you can go to a different machine and as long as you're signed in is the same person, then if you had the download button here in your preferences, it would take whatever settings you last uploaded and get them onto that other machine, which can be rather convenient. Starting to discover is like some brushes that I've bought offline and different textures and things. Is there a limit to how many brushes you can put in your? I'm sure there is, but I may I haven't run into it, so I'm not sure what it is but it's not a small number, so this will load right in this case will load just whatever you currently have loaded and father shop, and it should be able to handle all of what you have. Uh, but you first want upload from whatever machine has the settings you like and then whenever you get to somebody else's machine you can log in is you self and then go into the same area here hit download and you'll then have all those settings on that machine. S o could be convenient there's another new feature in photo shop, which is if you ever have elements that you use quite frequently, for instance, I have a graphic that I often watermark my images with when I'm going to deliver them for certain purposes. Maybe it's a customer that I want to send them an image, and I know this customer, they're going to print the image and then not pay me to print it, so I'm going to put something on their picture that's going to make it so they print it, they're not going to like their print. Instead, they'll contact me and asked for one without the watermark. Well, if I choose to do the watermark and photoshopped, you could do him in light room there's a feature for watermarks and in light room if I'm going to do in father shop, I'm not always going to remember where that water markets stored on my hard drive and just remember where to get to it. So there's, a new feature called libraries and libraries could be found here on the ah right side of my screen and if you're libraries air not visible, you go again to the window menu and this list all the panels you can possibly have, you can choose libraries with this you can take an element within your document let's say what I like to use is this little circle element here looks like I have more than one of them here, so let me just isolate it down, teoh one if I can find it there's a circle, I mean that click on the layer that I'd like to use and then at the bottom of the library's panel, I can click on what I'd like to add, and if I click on the far left icon, it means grabbed the graphic or the contents of that layer and put it in this document, this thing called library. Then I could open a different document, and if you want to use that within that other document, I just go to my library panel, click on that and pull it over into this document. It will tell me that it's going to be a smart object that's linked back to this thing that's what it is trying to let me know the first time uh, and I'll click ok, you know, let me scale it just in case is a different size document, and I might want to use their different size, and now I can use it within that document is always going to be sitting there always ready. All I'd have to do is drag it out from that particular area, but it's not on ly those layers that we can say let's say instead, I used my eyedropper tool and I grab this green color because let's say for some odd reason that's my corporate color. It's not, but I want to use that color for a lot of things. Well, as long as my foreground color is set to that particular color, I could also come over here to the libraries and one of the other choices down there is the color and if I click that's going to add my foreground color in here and the default down here will be writing it down as a hex decimal number. That's what web designers use because they assume a lot of web designers will use this, but I can double click here and call this my green and then any time I want to use that I can just click on it within the, um the panel here and it'll automatically change my foreground color to that color so I can use this is kind of like the swatches panel where you click on it to grab other colors. Not only can I do that, I can also add layer styles in here. So if I come in here to the word extreme, if I turn off and on, you can see how it's got that black outline around it let's say it always want to use the same thickness of the black outline and it also has an inner shadow in a drop shadow and all that well one of the choices down here at the bottom is add layer style and that means those effects that have been applied to it click the letter effects and now I have it there as something I can easily apply in the future. Also, you'll notice that it doesn't just show me one color can show me more than one that's in that particular layer so I could save the various colors that air there. Other things that I can save is character styles, so if I like the particular text that I have in that layer and that's the font size and such would like to use later, I can click on the letter a and now I can add a layer style that's going to pick up exactly what that type face looked like and save these. So let me show you a few of the things that I've done where I used these libraries, I'm gonna just go open a few images, you will end up using them open this image, all right? You can save more than one library so you can have one library for each client because maybe they have different corporate colors, different fonts they like. That type of thing in this little poppet menu at the top is where you can switch between them that's also where you'll find the choice of create new library well, here's one thing I've done this, my wife does hand lettering and when she does hand lettering, that means she also does handle drawings of things and I have different little photo frames that I use and I might want to put an image within one of these photo frames and I can now just dragged them from there onto my image it automatically starts to allow me to scale them like this and I might put this down here so I want to get that guy inside the frame press returner enter and then I could take this and I'm going to move it so it's down near the bottom of my layers panel I'm in a clip so that this layer on lee shows up within that frame then there's various ways of doing that, but one of them is to go to the layer menu in, say, create clipping mask and that means make this layer only show up where there's information in the layer below and if I do that I get the photo to only show up within that I'll turn off the other layers because just has some other clutter in it, but you can see that I now have it within a little frame, so I end up having up here different fong combinations I want to use different color combinations I like to use and if I go to another one in here just called my library, you'll see here's my corporate colors that's the color of my logo this is the color of accents. I use somebody website and then we use black so I can switch quickly. Switch between them. I can have brushes in there, and here is the little badge that occasionally pull out onto my image. I can put it on top of this to get my little badge that I would end up, um, water marking images with. So if there any elements that you use quite frequently, you can store them in your library and then just dragged them from the library on tier image. You should just be aware that the stuff you drag onto your image will be smart objects, and they will be linked back to the original in your library so that if you made a change later on, it could try to update those other files. If you hold down the option key when you drag from this panel to your image, it becomes independent of that library. Where doesn't know it came from the library and so it can be useful. And you could also copy between libraries. Let's say want this little badge and all my libraries just right click and you can say let's, copy to or move it to a different library so I can say let's, copy it so it's in both this library and one of the others there's all sorts of things you can do with libraries uh it all depends what it is you do it day to day, but I find watermarks, especially colors and funk combinations. If you wanted to have a consistent graphic identity using the library could be useful. Other changes they've made let's go and think about working with perspective. We'll look at a feature that they added a little while ago but is nice if you ever do composites where you combined together, multiple images say you have again, like I get things from, like design cuts and has brushes and miles and I get a folder can you move things from a folder that you downloaded into libraries without having to be in photos? I think you need first opening and photoshopped before you'll be able to put it in the library. Ah, before you bela put in the library, at least I'm not aware of it. I don't use libraries all that extensively, so there might be some little tricks, but you can do it possibly online as well, because it's linked in with your creative cloud account. And so if you, uh, look into what you can do online, you might be able to do it in some method there like, for instance, the dhobi has some aps for your phone and I should mention what they're called and these aps can put things into your library for you from your phone and they're called adobe color what adobe color allows me to do is just take my phone and pointed it at anything and tap within the image to say I want to grab those colors so let's say I'm in a bookstore and I see an advertisement I love the colors they use for their typography and some other elements I just take my phone and with the app called adobe color aiken tap within the images say that color that color and that color and then I choose save switch over to photo shop and it'll be sitting right there in my library it's pretty cool there's another app called adobe brush and with the dhobi brush I could point my camera at little marks that are on this table take a picture of it and then go over here in the photo shop and it'll show up in this could be a brush that I could use we're now I can paint with this shape there's a third app called adobe shape and with the dhobi shape I could draw something let's say I want to draw a logo for something I could point this added take a picture of it and it would turn it into a vector shape that means the shape I can scale up and down without losing quality but those three offs were adobe brush adobe color in adobe shape. So dominant the free. And all you needed to do is when you get them. Log into the same, um, creative cloud account, and you'll be able to have it show up in that copy of photo shop.
