What Kind of Show will you Have?
The very first decision you're gonna make is what kind of show you will have. This is going to impact everything else that you do. Right, so, whether you do an interview show, or you do just a you talking, or you do a vlog style show, the kind of show you have will influence what you call it, the kind of intro you have, the kind of content you cover, even who your ideal listener is. So I've put together three formats that I think work really well for small businesses. So there's the interview show, where it's like me talking to someone else and asking them for their expertise. There's also the solo-show, where it's you just talking, this is what my show is, and then there's also the roundtable, where say you get a couple friends together each week and all talk about whatever. There's a lot of news shows that are like this, but I think this could be really great for a small business if you did product reviews, like we all read the same book and we're talking about the book, if your list...
ener is gonna be interested in that kind of conversation. So we're gonna go into detail for each of these, but I wanted to note that there's a couple kinds of formats that aren't on here, because either there are already a million shows like this or I just don't know how it would work well with your small business. One of the kinds of shows I didn't list is a storytelling show, like one of the most popular podcasts is This American Life, where each week they tell different stories and it's highly edited it has musical interludes, that kind of show, takes real awesome producers and editors and storytellers. And although you could absolutely do that if it interested you I know that that's a lot more time and effort than the kind of show I'm gonna show you. So what I'm hoping for is that as you're running your business and you're doing everything else to make your business succeed, you actually have time to record an episode, and because those storytelling shows are usually so highly edited and produced, a lot of us just don't have time to work that in. However, if you wanna be, like just an audio person, you might wanna look into that kind of show. Another kind of show like that is serial, where it is one story going on throughout the weeks. That is really not what we're talking about here, because of how much time and effort and wonderfulness that it required. The other kind of show we're not gonna talk about is a news show, so my husband listens to a lot of sports news shows, where people are talking about the news of the day. That takes a lot of, you have to be on top of things. Right, you have to react to things right away, you have to be paying attention to what's going on, and we're all at home working in our business, right. You're like in you studio making the product that you're makings, so creating a show like that requires a different level of energy and paying attention to the outside world and interaction, that I want you guys to be able to do this, to record ahead of time, to batch your work so it's easy, and I want you to be able to find time for it while you're doing everything else in your business and your life. So that's why we're not gonna go into detail on those shows. But if you have questions about them we can absolutely talk about how to make them effective in your business.

Tess
I design embroidery patterns and I love podcasts but I wasn't sure what I would talk about in my own podcast without being able to show pictures. After watching this course I already have 20+ ideas for podcast topics, plus I now know how to get a podcast up and running, step-by-step, AND how it fits with my business goals. Tara Swiger is an excellent teacher and coach. I filled page after page with notes!
