Sourcing Collage Papers
Going to do it digitally to begin with we're going to take pictures of art that we've created whether it is a canvas for the wall or on our journal page we're going to take a picture now you can use your regular camera I used my my phone most of the time to take pictures and what I'm going to d'oh is I'm going to use this as an illustration this piece was just a piece of watercolor paper that I created this design on and there's certain parts of it I will be honest this was not my favorite piece of art it was kind of some tact to my wall in my studio for a long time I think everything looks better when it's framed anyway so I'm liking it much better now that it's in a frame but there's certain parts of this art that I really love there's little bits of it that I really like so what I'm able to do is get in better lighting of course like I take it outside to have a nice day light on it and then with a good camera is better in here with the plexi on front of it on the front of it you're ...
going to get the glare but you get the idea I'm gonna come in here and take pictures of little pieces so I like that one I like where is it ok right there I like that I like that see how close I'm getting really back it up I can frame out the pieces that I like so I've taken those pictures once I get the pictures done I can put them I could take him out of my computer I can print them out full size so here's a full size print already slipped into that one there's a full size print aiken printed out quarter size aiken printed out half sheet size it's great to get the different scale of your original so you've got the big pieces and the little pieces and all we're going to do for the project we're doing today is we're going to cut these paper pages up this is just printed out of a regular this is actually printed out of a laser printer our photocopy machine you can use an ink jet printer get that asked a lot of times can I only have an ink jet printer does that work it does sometimes your ink will bleed a little bit but that's ok it works just fine uh I love my laser prints the quality that mine gives me I'm very happy with that we're going to cut these bits up and we're going to collage them down to the surface of a canvas I'm gonna start right up here I'm going to say you're going tio cut pieces that for covering this size of a canvas this is a sixteen by twenty canvas and you could wrap it around the edges or you can work just on the on the surface I usually say this is a good medium sized piece this is a good small size piece I'm not going to get much smaller than this otherwise it's going to take me forever to get it covered and let me get a good big piece here it's a good big piece I'm just cutting off the white edges now do I have to cut it? No, I could tear it if I wanted a more organic feel to it I tend to like them cut in squares and rectangles doesn't mean that I have to cut them in squares and rectangles they could be circles that could be hard it could be whatever you want them to be but whatever is pleasing to you go for it I'm going to cut until I have this laid out till everything is covered. Now how I'm selecting these bits and pieces is I'm just finding again my favorite parts of each one I'm going to start to lay them out and pretty soon I'll find um that I'm that I have, you know, a bunch of orange here pink here more orange here I'm laying them out so that the colors are all mixed in that there's not just one section that on lee has orange one section that only has pink, one section that only has blue. They're dispersed throughout, so it's, random, but kind of planned random it's, kind of hard to do that, but just start laying them out and and you'll see what looks good. Now. First layer is just that it's, just the first layer. Once you get that down, you can come in and throw smaller pieces on top, so don't worry so much about what I just said you can. You can lay it down, you can always come back and layer smaller pieces on top.
