I start a f so if you do have one of the sony adaptors that uses the face detection focusing system, the camera will focus just by having your eye up to the viewfinder. This is a older system back from the minolta days of the system, where the camera would just automatically focus whenever you have it held up to your eye. The problem is, is that you may not always want it to be focusing just because you're looking through the camera. If you're focusing on action, that might be a nice thing to have, but for doing a portrait as you recompose the photograph, this would be a terrible thing to have. So in general, you're going to leave this turned off and you'll only use it if you have those devices, the monitor and the finder on this camera can be adjusted in many different ways, and so you can go in here and you can adjust, which when you're looking at now, normally the camera is going to choose automatically by using the I sense or to switch back and forth between the two. If you knew fo...

r a fact that you on ly wanted to use the viewfinder, you didn't want the monitor to come on. You could go in here to the menu, and you could choose that specific one that you want to use. Most of the time. I think we like it in auto, but I can see some reasons where we would want to switch it back and forth because the sensor for the switch, the eye sensor, is very sensitive and there is no control on this sensitivity. I if I was to ask for a firmware update, one of the features I would request is some sort of calibration, a level like one through ten on how sensitive the eye, since there is because it just has one setting and there is no adjustment for that. All right, if you do not have a lens on your camera, do you want to be able to release the shutter? The serious shooters will want to be doing it because they might be using a lens adapter, which the camera kind of doesn't recognize as a lens, and you want to be able to fire it. The average photographer may not want that because every time that shutter fires is a little bit more wear and tear on the camera and if you were to have your finger in the camera, which it should it b but if you had your finger in the camera and you fired the shutter you would most likely destroy the shutter on your camera, which would be a huge bill in order to get that fixed. Okay, do you want your camera to be able to shoot pictures without a memory card in there? And so normally I would like to disable my camera so it will not shoot a photo if I don't have a memory card in the camera, just kind of a preventive measure to make sure that I have remembered to put that card in the camera. All right, little nit picky mode. Here, focus. This is priority set in auto focusing f s single focusing. So when it's in that standard single focusing mode in a looks for a subject, it focuses on that subject and then locks in is the camera. Do you want the camera? I absolutely have to receive auto focus before it takes a photo, which is the standard system that all cameras have or would you prefer the camera just to be able to shoot a photo any time you press down on the shutter release, even if it's not in focus and if you were a very experienced photographer, there may be reasons why you would want to use that, but you have to be very careful because this will allow you to shoot pictures that are out of focus. There is also a balanced emphasis, and I haven't really been able to figure out how they're doing the magic mojo to figure out what that correct balance is. And so for most people, we want to leave it in auto focus. That way, it fork forces us to get that subject in focus, which it should be if it's not moving around too much closely related to that is the exact same thing, but dealing with continuous focusing and here is where things change a little bit. If we asked our cameras to always achieve perfect auto focus on subjects that are randomly moving towards us in a way for us, the camera would probably never end up shooting a photo because it would end up being so picky about things being in focus. Release. Priority will allow you to shoot more pictures per second in a rapid burst, but they may not be in focus. And so I think, for a lot of people a day, balanced emphasis is going to be a good balanced mode for when you were shooting in the continuous section are continuous style of focusing.

INCREDIBLE Class! I couldn't find anything on the internet that truly explained this camera, explained what it can and can't do and what accessories would work with it. I have had my Sony A7II for awhile now, but was so overwhelmed by it, I rarely even took it out of its case. It was just easier to use my Canon 5D III. After this class, I am so excited to finally practice with and use my Sony. John is an incredible teacher. He is thorough, professional, fun and knowledgeable! Buying this class was the best investment!!! I feel like I just got the gift of a new camera because I can finally use my Sony!!! Thanks John and Thanks Creative Live!!!

I stored my Sony A7II for more than a year since I've been Canon's user for 7 years and I felt unsure of taking this new camera which implied a different menu system, different functions, a little bit intimidating. Finally, I took a bit of valor, put my camera next to the computer monitor for then start watching this guide and I spent a great time actually. I'm amazed at how helpful and clear is the sequence of the chapters. It was enough to get to chapter ten to know all the basic controls and start taking pictures with an equivalent confidence of my good old Canon, or even better since in the chapter 8th I learned how accurate and easy to use is the focusing system, either, manual or auto (For stills I've always used manual focusing). Very informative, enjoyable and now I became a new fan of the mirrorless cameras, at the point that I'm considering to buy another two :D

Was so grateful to find this class introducing the operation of my first mirrorless camera. The Sony a7 series is quite different from my Canon DSLRs and I am confident that John gave me a good head start. Without this comprehensive intro it would have been VERY frustrating and I would not be making full use of the camera's many abilities! Thanks for a great course at a fair price.
