All right, page seven custom setup menu lens compensation. All right, here is one of those areas where the camera is going to go in and it's going to fix problems with your image. Do too imperfectly lenses and sorry to say, you may have spent lots of money on your lands and you may think it's great, but all lenses have some imperfections. And these air three common ones that as long as the camera knows what lenses on there, it will be be able to perform some sort of fix. Now, this is on ly going to do these fixes in j peg. It doesn't do anything in raw, but you might as well set it the way you want it, because even if you shoot raw, you may end up shooting j peg it. Sometimes the first thing is called lens compensation for shady. Now this let this photograph here has a lot of what we call the thing getting noticed. The corners are darker than the middle of the frame lenses have something getting to them, and so you can have the camera automatically fixed this for you. And this is a nic...
e thing to have in this situation. The problem is, there are many photographers who, like adding a vignette to their image. Infact I am one of those photographers that will often go in in post an ad vignette toe lenses that didn't already have them it's sometimes nice to have sometimes not it depends on the content of the photo chromatic aberration is a color ghosting caused by bright light behind a solid object and so in this shot this is the seattle library the bright light from behind these metal girders are causing these color casting on the edges of the girder in one's kind of a teal color one's a magenta color and it's an imperfection in the lens and this is where it will show up the camera can go in knows how bad this problem is and can automatically fix this now with chromatic aberration I haven't met anyone in my life that says that they like chromatic aberration so this is this is a defect that nobody has really taken a liking to, so this is something that we're going to probably it affects even if it's only on j pegs next up. If you look at the horizon line here there's a little bit of a curve to the earth and we know the earth is round at least most of us are pretty concerned about there convinced that it is round but it's showing us it round and it probably isn't the way it really looks and it's because the lens has a little bit of distortion and let me jump back and forth between these two images and so the camera will know how much distortion that particular lens has and we can go in and correct for it now if you want distortion, I would recommend a fisheye lens it's great way to get distortion, but normally we're not wanting it in the lands and so my recommendations are on these on most of the time is just leaving them all in auto tow automatically fix, but I think some more serious photographers and I might throw myself in that category from time to time I kind of like the natural vignette ing that certain lenses have and I'll often just leave that turned on because that's more of an aesthetic look it's not definitely right or definitely wrong, whereas on the others I think we can more clearly say that there one choice is undesirable it's a lesser quality in the photographs and so that's what lens compensation is doing and who know somewhere down the road we may have more options in here is things that we can adjust and change to correct for our lenses. Next up is something called a f system and if you are using the a e one or the e three you khun tell the camera whether you want to use phase detection or not if you don't have these adapters, you don't need to worry about this study if you want to add one of the sony video lights to the multi interface you on the top of the camera, you can add that and you, khun, control how that light is turned on is it only turned on when you're recording, is it on the whole time, the camera's on? Is it on all the time? And so I don't know that there's that many people, they're gonna be putting this on there, but this is how you control the automatic on and off of that light that goes on there function menu set. So on this one, this is where you get to customize your function menu. If remember earlier we went through, and we were adjusting the top row in the bottom row of the function menu, you'll have two pages, one page will control all the function, upper settings, and then you can go down and you can change, move out, you can eliminate all of them and only have one item in there. You can change everything around, and you could really customize this so that you don't need to go into the menu system, which we all know is a little bit of a disaster, so you don't need to go in there to find your particular features custom key setting so this is another way of customizing your camera. There are a lot of custom buttons that you can change the mode to its we've talked about in the camera this is the place that you go to reorganize and get your camera set up the way you like it to work and so there's a lot of great options and there's just well, it's it's a very large number I don't know what it is, but it's close to infinity is too far the number of options that you can have programmed in your camera with all the different buttons and all the different options that you can put on there. I think sonny's done an excellent job giving this a lot of customization in the camera and so there will be just two pages of this where you'll be able to customize ah lot of the wheel and the button presses on the back as well as all the others and in a rare note, I'm going to show you how I have had my camera customized for the last few weeks now I can already tell you I'm thinking about changing some of these and so I'm not recommending these I'm just showing you how I've changed mine ah couple reasons number one I'm coming from canon and cannon has there is a button very near where that c one button is and so I'm very used to changing eso right there and I know that I also have it on the wheel on the back which is kind of a duplicate, and I know one of those is going to change, and I'm going to move some other feature in there, but I do like being able to go in and magnify images from time to time because I do like manual focusing on certain subjects. And so this is the way that I've programmed mine, but as they say, I'm not saying this is perfect in any manner, but it's it's one of the ways that I was working with mine and I'll probably go back and set it up like this when I'm done with the class, and then I'll continue to adjust and change, as we all do in our photography, all right, back into the menu system. So a lot of customizing to be done in the function menu set and the custom key cities if you want, you can mess with the dial set up and remember, we have the front dial and the back dial on the camera. If you prefer to have the shutter speeds in the front of the camera, you can reverse the operation of those two cameras because whether you were coming from nikon or canon or pentax or some other manufacturer, you may be used to a different set up, and you would prefer to mimic that set up.

INCREDIBLE Class! I couldn't find anything on the internet that truly explained this camera, explained what it can and can't do and what accessories would work with it. I have had my Sony A7II for awhile now, but was so overwhelmed by it, I rarely even took it out of its case. It was just easier to use my Canon 5D III. After this class, I am so excited to finally practice with and use my Sony. John is an incredible teacher. He is thorough, professional, fun and knowledgeable! Buying this class was the best investment!!! I feel like I just got the gift of a new camera because I can finally use my Sony!!! Thanks John and Thanks Creative Live!!!

I stored my Sony A7II for more than a year since I've been Canon's user for 7 years and I felt unsure of taking this new camera which implied a different menu system, different functions, a little bit intimidating. Finally, I took a bit of valor, put my camera next to the computer monitor for then start watching this guide and I spent a great time actually. I'm amazed at how helpful and clear is the sequence of the chapters. It was enough to get to chapter ten to know all the basic controls and start taking pictures with an equivalent confidence of my good old Canon, or even better since in the chapter 8th I learned how accurate and easy to use is the focusing system, either, manual or auto (For stills I've always used manual focusing). Very informative, enjoyable and now I became a new fan of the mirrorless cameras, at the point that I'm considering to buy another two :D

Was so grateful to find this class introducing the operation of my first mirrorless camera. The Sony a7 series is quite different from my Canon DSLRs and I am confident that John gave me a good head start. Without this comprehensive intro it would have been VERY frustrating and I would not be making full use of the camera's many abilities! Thanks for a great course at a fair price.
