so again thanks for coming everyone uh I think we're here because we want to do what you want to improve our craft and most importantly we want to make more money so hopefully at the end of these three days uh will improve our craft and make more money so I'm going to show you some sample clips right now just get the blood flowing and it inspired we oh wait we owe you wait wait wait never back all right so what do you guys get from that club it's a lot of high end weddings lining light is good compositions good hopefully I made some money on those events so we're going to cover all those things because hopefully you'll be able to do all four good lighting good composition some high end events and we make some money but it's like somebody set over here earlier and during the interruptions it's um it's not easy and it's never going to be easy and when you start doing these high profile events which were all targeting the room for error is very small because expectations are very high whe...
n you're charging low money and you're first starting out expectations are very little so maybe you're still working hard but the expectations are lower but once you get into this high end market it is going to become a lot of work and a lot of responsibility because these people are not expecting you to make mistakes or a lot of mistakes how many have you been to uh the school of wedding videography or the university of wedding videography nobody because it doesn't exist there's no film school for what we do there's no there's no trade school for what we do so how do we learn either through me there was no me when I started okay so luckily that was online resource is there was some of the people in the industry that were gracious enough to share their knowledge at conferences and seminars and little workshops but there's no school so what do we do a lot of it's on the job training right we're making mistakes with people's weddings right and hopefully we're correcting those mistakes but everything's relative because probably were doing it for free or not a lot of money and expectations were really low and a lot of these mistakes you can do what you fix it in post right that's the common phrase fix it in post but you want to get to a point where you're not really looking to fix too much in post you should always aspire to kind of do everything right on the shoot and that way you have little work imposed my thing is I don't want to do a lot of postproduction because I'm not I'm not a great editor and if you look at my work I don't add anything to these films it's really just straight cuts and dissolves I don't want to get into aa lot of flashy fancy editing my stars I'd like to keep it clean your style you may have you know a grunge you're kind of heavy editing style of that requires a little more of skill set when it comes to editing that's not my style and I don't want it to be my cell I rather just have something that's clean it's not distracting and it doesn't disrupt the flow of the film that's just my style and during the course of this three day workshop I don't want you to feel is though I'm telling you that my style is a right way or wrong way it's just the way that that I do things so if you're joining us online if you're here the next three days I'm basically going to cover everything that I do I don't hide anything I don't believe in secrets I don't believe in holding ideas I believe in constantly evolving okay because if I were to hide certain things and just not evolve sooner or later somebody's gonna pass me up because this is a competition and all of us want to make more money we want the best jobs and I think of the day it is a competition you're going to compete with the people in your local market and you have to be prepared for that you have to be prepared just like I have to be prepared for some young guys just starting out that wantto basically take my jobs away from me you know where I'm from and I always have to be aware of that so always continuously have to keep evolving and you have to do the same because remember all those guys in your market or around the world they're competing for your same jobs that's everything and when you get into the high end arena it's very small and you have a lot of people competing for the same jobs on everybody kind of knows each other and things like that so if you do make mistakes at that level that little small circle of vendors in that community there they're all going to know about it so it's you have to be careful and you know you'll get there eventually but I always say make sure you're ready before you kind of enter those waters because those waters it's just once you're there people know you and they really don't expect you to make too many mistakes so hopefully by the end of this three day course our mistakes will be minimal and you'll take a look at things a little bit differently and I will move on from there crash course like I said it's gonna be three days I'm going to cover everything today we're gonna go over gear because I always get asked about gear so I have a whole section on gear we're going to cover that exactly what I use what I have the essential gear that you're going to need and they want to get into broader preparations which is a very very important part of the day so definitely be mindful for everything that's going to be talked about and regards to broader perhaps I'm on twitter so if you want to follow me on twitter they said this before you can use the hashtag roman live if you want to give us a shout here a creative life and we'll talk about my background and training because I have extensive background and training but not with wedding films this was my previous career I was uh I was police officer for a long time I was on the swat team I was a detective and the last thing I ever expected to be doing was filming wedding videos and I know like in some of introductions uh a couple of year or not um primarily in the wedding video business you have day jobs and I had a day job and honestly I never I never expected to be doing wedding videos for anybody it was it was the furthest thing from my mind it was really an accident and it was something that started as a hobby and I know there's a lot of us there's probably a few of us here that started as a hobby and there's plenty of people at home that started as a hot hobby you know we all started the same we have a day job we started this we fell in love with it our passion grew and we decided to make this kind of like a full time thing on dh that's what that's what I ended up doing so what's the secret does anybody know to creating stunning imagery is there a secret zack but it's not it's not it's not a secret there are no secret if I could get this to work there are no secrets okay we'll get into gear but I'm going to tell you this I used to think there was a secret I say wow to produce this great work there's got to be something that I don't know and what I found was it was all just very basic it was just the basic fundamentals lighting composition audio and color but it wasn't just knowing the basic fundamentals what I learned was it was about mastering the basic fundamentals your photographer I've learned so much from photography because photographers really understand lighting and composition and I looked at some of the greatest photographers in the world I looked at their work and I said what kind of like distinguishes their work from average photographers and what it always came down to was their use of lighting and their compositions but they'd mastered it if you looked at it you were just completely blown away but if you broke it down you always come back to the same two things it was a lighting and it was a composition so those really for me would be the secrets but they're not they're just part of the basic fundamentals lighting composition color's color and audio but not a lot of people think about them I'm gonna cover gear in this segment this is actually have ah ah appear here all the way from amsterdam who is in my my london workshop on guy covered a lot of this stuff but I have some new stuff so you'd be happy about that I'm gonna cover gear because um I'm always asked about gear and gear is important to a point um essential gear is very important but the toys are not and everybody loves the toys everybody loves the sliders and the steady camps on the glide camps and the cranes and all of this but there that's not essential gear when I first started I didn't have a lot of money because I was working a police job um so I can't afford this gear especially professional gear but I needed the essentials so I worked a little bit extra not even thinking about any type of toy I needed essential gear so I'm gonna go over my essential gear lists of things that I use and things that I feel are very very important to your chute so that you're well prepared because the last thing you want to do is show up to an event and you're not prepared especially when it comes to uh obviously cameras that work well in a little light and an audio and lighting because as you're well aware nothing is catered to videographers at these weddings that they don't cater lights to us they don't cater audio nothing's too videographer friendly at a wedding you kind of got to deal with the situation as it is and I kind of hope you're prepared and just deal with it all right

The content provided here is great for videographers starting out in the wedding industry and also for pros/semi-pros fine tuning their video skills. In fact this is the only course in wedding videography that I can find on Creative Live. There are a couple other for corporate or film making video course, not dealing with wedding video. Also an HDDSLR course is available. That said Creative Live needs to put out a couple more updated wedding video courses, as this one is a several years old now and many pros are now using Dual-Pixel autofocus or fast sensor auto-focusing in Canon, Sony, Panasonic, and now Nikon also in Z cameras with great stabilization in many cameras (which should be discussed affecting the shots and video coverage). Although the rest of the course is great on how to plan out video coverage at your wedding, with the advent of great autofocusing systems today in DSLRs and mirrorless that could make some difference to how video is shot. I still give this course a thumbs up, as it is the best course (and only course) currently on CreativeLive for wedding video/cinematography, however I would encourage CL to create a new course being developed and recorded as much as happened in the last 5 years in video DSLRs and mirrorless, which makes a difference to shooting video. How wedding video coverage is done and planning the shots and angles of view, and equipment is still useful information to buy this course. The presenter Ray Roman is also an excellent teacher. So get this course now, and another one once an update is made. CL has lots of photo courses on wedding, not many for wedding video.

A couple of years ago, I made a bold and somewhat wreckless choice to take out a home equity loan in order to help finance my son's dream to start a wedding cinematography business. Together, we embarked on a journey to learn everything we could about the business. The most important choice we made was to purchase the Ray Roman Wedding Cinematography course. This class saved us so much money as it helped us understand our camera, audio and essential and non-essential gear. We were inspired by the artistry in Ray's work and have implemented many of his techniques in order to Improve the quality and production value of our films. In under three years, we have filmed over 50 weddings and our company is well established in our area. Buying Ray's class was easily the best investment I made for my son's business, One Night Only Films. Thank you Creativelive and Ray Roman for helping us start a successful and profitable business.

WOW!!! What an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to be there in studio with the creative live team and Ray and all I have to say is it was amazing! The creative live team was FIRST class and this course was jammed packed with information!!! Forgive me if I asked to many questions but I wanted just to pull all the info I could of out of Ray. From being there in person and owning the course itself I have to say that this is a MUST have for all cinematographers of any level! Buy it and watch it again and again! Thank you creative live for this amazing opportunity! -Aaron gracemedia.info
