Prototype Tricks
Hi there, this video is all about some prototype tricks. Okay. We're getting quite close to the end with our wireframe for at least our desktop and they're gonna be some things were like, man, that's taking a long time or it seems very exhausting and I'm gonna show you a couple of tricks to fix that. Watch this really, navigation on all pages. All linked. So good. I think it's good. Anyway, let's jump in and work out how to do it. Alright, we're coming to the end of our prototyping. Our at least our desktop will do the prototyping and app in the next couple of videos, but we're coming to the end of this and I want to share with you a few tricks for prototyping because if you're working on a large document, man, there could be some big issues with just a lot of repetitive tasks that can be fixed with a few little tricks. So we're in design view and let's say that I want to use this start trial button again. I'm going to grab it, grab both of these, copy it and I need to use it on this o...
ne over here, I'm gonna paste. So we're gonna have this like start trial button down the bottom here. Not for a good reason really. Just I want to show you. So by copying it in design view, if I got a prototype now, it doesn't do anything right? It's just a button that I've got again, then go and link, right? I've got to zoom out and I guess actually you go and link here now, but we already did that. Right? So let me show you a different way of doing it. It's pretty easy and you can see the button already has that on it, right? But if I if I copy and paste it by a design view, it only grabs the design. If I grab it by a prototype. So just being prototype, Okay, I've collected both of these have copied them, it will bring both the design stuff. So the blue box and the text. But also if I paste it over here, you see it brought my lovely little animation as well or my overlay. Okay, so it brings both of them. This is super handy. If you're like, I'm going to copy everything from a page, bring it across. You might as well do it in prototype mode. You'll forget I do. You're like, damn it. You have to re link everything. So another thing you can do is when you're duplicating pages, get in the habit of not doing in design view, even though that's the more natural place to be doing it, grab prototype and let's say I want another courses. Page, Dashboard page. I don't have any prototypes done on this one. Let's find. See the homepage, we want to duplicate it. I'm gonna do it down here just for girls. Okay, remember we've been holding down the option key on a Mac. The old key on a Pc but we've been doing it in design view bad doing prototype of you see this when I duplicated, I've got some of that navigation already going, there's not much going in here, but you can get the idea right. If you've linked the entire nav, you don't wanna have to redo it every time you duplicate a page. So it's two prototype. Another cool little trick you can do is the navigation is the big one. You end up having to redo loads. What I end up doing is I'm going to make a duplicate of the homepage. This is just going to be my never hold a page. It's not going to go out to the client. I'm just going to use this for myself. I'm going to get rid of everything on it, including the empty boxes. There's nothing on here. Right? So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to copy and paste using prototype for you to this guy here because what I want to do is I want to grab the logo and when that's clicked, it goes to this page. Okay, When the pricing, I don't have that yet example is going to go to my dashboard. Okay. So it's too far away. So I'm just going to use a little arrow when it's clicked, transition to dashboard. Cool. And start. Trial is definitely something that already works. So when it's clicked, it's going to transition. It's actually gonna do the overlay to start trial. It's going to go landed in the right position. Cool. The reason I do it on its own page and you're like, why not just do it on the homepage and then use that? Because the homepage has one problem is I want to link to the homepage from this and I can't do it because this is I would like you to link to and you can't link to itself. Okay? So whenever you copy and paste this, they use this as your, like your default, you copy it, you updated, you copy it and paste it on all these. It's not going to link back to the home page. So I have this kind of like throwaway page and all it does is hold my navigation. It's going to hold both that and that left navigation on it getting it probably a little bit too advanced. I realize as I'm explaining, I'm like, this might be a two to hardcore at the moment, but if you do, you're like, man, he's baffled me, just forget what I said in the last like a minute or two gave you the people that like, this is actually helpful, carry on. We'll do a little bit longer before we move on. So we've got our that links to that links to that links to that. It's perfect. So I'm gonna show you another cool trick is say, so I'm gonna build all these because otherwise I have to go through and click on example and linked to that An example link to that. So it's a bit of a pain. So I'm gonna grab all you, you fella, you've gone, you've got I'm getting all of these. And so this is my like one that I've just updated. I've done a text change or link somewhere else or added a new button. I'm gonna copy it and you can just click on the name paste, click on the name, paste the name paste. Remember we're always doing it in prototypes. So all the links come along and that works. Not when you've got like 100 pages though. Okay, I'll show you another cool little trick is click on the word here, hold shift, click on start trial. I'm holding down the shift key the whole time, clicking all the course names and they watch this ready paste putting them all of them at the same time. It's great for footers and navigation. And yeah, I'm gonna do the same thing with his left hand. Now I'm gonna grab you, my friend, copy it. Come over here, paste it. Okay, this is going to be courses. Page is going to go to my courses. Page, dashboard is going to get my dashboard and it's not making like if you're like, it doesn't seem like much of a change, it's a whole lot Nice. And we've got all of these pages built out. Cool. So now I can copy it, grab him. Delete this guy, Goodbye. Delete this guy. Goodbye. On both of these. Hit paste. You're either like there was only two of them would be quicker to link them. That's probably that could still be the case, or I might have just gone a bit too advanced. Too early. I'm gonna leave it in the course. We're like 22 videos and now we're getting the swing of things. But that's it. Some tricks for prototyping. If you take nothing else out of this course is if in doubt just copy and paste using prototype. Not designed because you get best of both worlds. Alright, see you in the next video.

Thank you, Dan Scott, for providing such a beautiful Adobe XD course. I completed the course today and noticed a couple of things that are missing. I want to share them here so that you can upgrade the course, which would be helpful for us. Hover state and toggle state. Dragging pages from 1-2 to 2-3 and then back from 3-2 to 2-1 with dragging is not working. Another thing is that we learned scrolling the website from top to bottom, but scrolling or pushing things from right to left has been completely omitted. These are the things I have noticed, and I would like you to upgrade them so that we can improve our Adobe XD skills.
