Mocking up in Photoshop
Hi everyone in this video, we're going to take our mock ups from XD and put them into real life stills. So they're not interactive, but they look really cool. They're really useful for presenting to clients. Maybe pitching maybe you haven't got the job yet. It's always useful for selling your ideas. We're going to do this one will do that flat one, We'll do this one. Look at that. How did it get on there? I'm gonna show you how in a second, another little mock up. Put it on a book just because we can and back to this one. Alright, let's work out how to do it now using adobe XD and a little bit of Photoshop. Alright, first up, we've got Photoshop open for the people have access to it. If not, you can just kick back and watch. I've opened up to files from your images folder. So exercise files, images, There's one here called iphone mock up one and two now. Where did I get these from? These great little layered PSD s and you find them in the credit card app. So remember on Mac, it's top r...
ight on Windows. That's down the bottom here and you want to go to assets. You want to go to market and in here, you want to change this from featured all categories too, for placement. That's where the magic happens. There's a lot in here. I've downloaded these two for you for just to get going. But you can find lots in here and we'll cover some other ones later on, but that's where I got them from. And the beautiful thing about them is that you can see they're actually kind of like layered documents. So no more kind of finding doing searches for white box or blank cell phone is kind of laid one. Somebody has gone through and done castle dot Co has done this one. So how do you apply it? This is just gonna be a rough Photoshop. If you're pretty new to it, you should be able to do this fine without too much hassle. What we're looking for is and it depends on the mock up. Okay, what they've called it. Okay, sometimes they're in groups, Sometimes they have given them good names. It depends on the person who made them. This person has made a great one that they've labeled it red place your image here. And how do you get your image in? Okay, you're looking for this thumbnail here. It's called a smart object. You double click the icon, you end up going inside that screen. Don't worry about the fonts, we're gonna hit cancel. We don't want any of this stuff that's in here. There's lots of junk in here. We don't need. What I might do is just turn the eyeballs off of them or you can just kind of click hold and drag across all of these to turn them all off until it's all gone. You can delete them. That works too. Okay, everything's off now. How do I get the XT mock up in here. You can copy and paste it kind of, you can grab it, select it copy. It doesn't really pace very well, pastes kind of in there. Let's go paste actually, let's go right to the top of this list. Make a new layer and paste it in and it's just, it's not scalable. That's the sucky thing. We're not going to do it that way. We're going to do it slightly longer, but better way. We're going to click on this dashboard. We're going to go file, we're going to go to export, we're just going to export the selected art board. It's gonna stick mine on my desktop, leaving it S V G or pdf is probably best in this case because it retains the victor. Pdf is a little bit more robust, dump it onto the desktop now in Photoshop you can go to file and you can go to place embedded on my desktop. There's a pdf. Where are you there? Cool. Yes, that's all very lovely click. Ok, And now I get to scale it to fit the phone And this is an IPhone six. There's not too many newer phones in the W Market. So I'm just gonna kind of resize this. I don't have to hold anything down. Just don't hold shift if you're in the new version of Photoshop Hit return. Cool. So I've got it in. Let's hit safe. So file, save and get ready for it. File close, how cool is that? Somebody has gone through and kind of bend it around and made it all fit. There's a white version, there's a black version, you can turn the background off. Super easy. Super cool. So pretty much all of them are like this. There'll be a smart object that you need to find. Hopefully identified nicely by the person who made it. Okay. And you just double click on not the words okay, you double click on the icon here and then go and don't worry about that. I should go through and delete the text because it's giving me issues. Put whatever you want in here. We pasted from XD, you can for no good reason. Draw a big red circle, save it. Close it, you can see whatever you put in that smart object. As long as you save it, it will appear here in this mock up and do that. Now, the only other kind you might find is this kind so it's not using a smart object. So let's put it into a folder. I'm going to close down this so it's not, it's a lot easier to see. So I've put everything into a folder and what you need to do is kind of work out what is what I know the screen, it's pretty clear what it is. Okay. That's the that's the thing I want to switch out or replace. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to bring in that same pdf, I'm going to file place linked and we're gonna bring in the pdf. Which one of you? That one there? Yes, perfectly. Okay, get the right size. Don't hold shift in the new version of Photoshop. Is that driving everybody mad? Just me. If you're in Photoshop CC 2018 or below you hold shift to make sure that it re sizes perfectly. If you're in the latest version After 2018 they've turned that off so I've lined it up, got it ready, hit return on my keyboard, grab my black arrow and kind of just move it in so it looks like it's part of it. Now, I'm gonna have to make it just a little bit bigger than I need. Just so it make sure it covers the whole screen and just kind of tap it around there we go with my keyboard. Great. Now I want to mask it to the screen and the way to do it is just to make sure that whatever you've brought in, it needs to be just above the screen. Now, this is the phone, so it's going to have this screen, it's whatever they might have called it screen and Michael, whatever you want to crop it inside of it might be say a Fitbit or an I watch just above it and then go to layer and go to this one that says create clipping mask and we'll just clip inside of that screen. You can move them independently so make sure the app or at least whatever you've brought in is selected and you can kind of move it around in here and decide where you want it to be. It's another way of masking. So you either go inside the smart object by double clicking the thumbnail or you make sure it's just above the thing you want to inside of and then you go to layer and go to make clipping mask. Alright, let's run through a couple of other ones. Now I haven't downloaded loads for you exercise files because they can be really, really big. Okay like 100 megabytes and I don't want to just keep piling them in so I'm just gonna run through some other ones that I've downloaded from the Derby market. This one here, same sort of thing. Double click it, file. Place linked or embedded. I'm gonna use embedded. Actually not linked. I think just means it's going to always look for this pdf and if you delete that pdf, he's going to freak out. I should have picked one that was the exact right size because I think this is an IPhone six as well. Anyway, here we go. Perfect return save close. Cool. Huh? The good thing about this one is they put something in front of it. I'm not sure what this is. It's very cool and edgy. There's a reflection down there and check out this one, there's a white version of it as well. So good. You can turn different effects in here. You turn the different lights on and off. It's all very custom and I want to run through a couple of other ones just because we're doing web mock ups and they're quite flat. I want to show you how cool some of these mock ups can be and you're like, this doesn't look very web ui Appy and it's not, I just want to show you like if I grab the right library, which one are we using and use instructor HQ. It's got my logos in there, I'm going to double click to go inside. I'm going to turn the eyeball off on that. I'm going to grab the logo that I had to drag it into here. You can copy and paste it from illustrator. Man. That shift is killing me. All right, click return saving clothes and get ready. This is a really cool one. I love it. Look at that foil embossed or divorced. You can see it just matches the background. Supercool. Another couple of ones. Remember this book. Remember we did this ages ago we were we kind of combined with this and if I copy all of that, you can copy and paste straight from illustrator, you can't from XD very well at the moment. So in here I'm gonna go inside my front book cover. There. It is there. So there's a back and front and the cool thing is they're all masked out so they're all separate which is cool. Let's have a little look at this one. It says the magic red which is good for double click it and paste in here. I'm gonna make it big donut shift. Here we go. Kind of fits, save it and close it. Look at that just wrapped it around. It's got the texture. You do the same for the back book cover and just remember there's lots in here. So four placement is what you're looking for and just have a look. Oh I've scrolled down already. Look at how many there are so many and just keeps on going. This thing keeps loading, keeps loading, keeps loading, keeps loading and if your internet is fast enough it doesn't stop. Alright, so that is how to mock up stills. We've brought them out of XD, we've used the power of Photoshop along with some sweet templates from the adobe market. It's time to get on to the next video

Thank you, Dan Scott, for providing such a beautiful Adobe XD course. I completed the course today and noticed a couple of things that are missing. I want to share them here so that you can upgrade the course, which would be helpful for us. Hover state and toggle state. Dragging pages from 1-2 to 2-3 and then back from 3-2 to 2-1 with dragging is not working. Another thing is that we learned scrolling the website from top to bottom, but scrolling or pushing things from right to left has been completely omitted. These are the things I have noticed, and I would like you to upgrade them so that we can improve our Adobe XD skills.
