Storyline #1 - The Basic 3-Act Play
Alright and this lesson, let's talk about the mother of our storylines, the basic three act play. Now, if you think about it, any presentation with a clear structure, any movie with a clear structure, any communication form that has a clear structure in one way or another follows a basic three a plate. Now with presentations, this is where you have a strong punch introduction that catches your audience's attention and then maybe you have some ideas with an example or two and then you have a strong conclusion to sum up and give a cultural action, making it very clear to the audience, what was your point and why they should care about him? For example, you might have seen steve jobs, commencement speech to the students of stanford, the one that made headlines. People still remember it today when you finished with the famous line. Stay hungry. Stay foolish. If you haven't watched it, I recommend that you can find your youtube is just minutes, you can learn a lot from it also from a commu...
nication perspective and if you watch it, you can clearly see that he follows a basic three a plate. He starts with a very quick introduction. He just says, look today I want to tell you three stories, no big deal, just three stories and remember three we talked about in the previous chapter, it's not five, not 73 is the most important number in communication. Then he shares these three stories. Each story of course has a message behind and then a very powerful, inspiring conclusion for the students to stay hungry and stay foolish. So his storyline looked like this quick introduction with the hook and interesting interim and then the development of his ideas where the three stories, the first story was about connecting the dots. The second story was about love and loss, and the third story was about death and then again, powerful, inspiring conclusion for the students Stay hungry, stay foolish. So here is the basic three A play. Remember if you get stuck because you're going to after this series of five lessons, develop your own presentation. If you get stuck, the basic three A plate works all the time. Now let's jump to the next lesson and we're going to talk about changing the world, the changing the world storyline. I'll see you there.

I was just beginning to create a series of presentations when I noticed this course. Serendipity! I thought I knew what I was doing, but learned some great techniques. More importantly I learned what NOT to do. Now I have much more confidence in the process.
