The Importance of Presentation Skills in Business
Welcome again to create and design memorable presentations, let's get started. Now, first of all, why are we here? Why do we need to take a course on effective presentations? Why does this matter now? This doesn't matter because we have a problem. And the problem is that most presentations suck and if you think about it, the problem is even worse than that. The problem is that there has business implications now, think about it. If your sales presentation fails to make customers want to buy from you, then your revenues will suffer. If your leadership presentation fails to inspire your team, then they won't be motivated to deliver on your strategy. And if your investor pitch fails to convince investors that they should support your new project or startup or idea, if that's what you need in order to kick you off is going to be hard. So you see it doesn't matter what types of presentations you normally give, there is always an impact and the impact of a good or bad presentation has never ...
been higher. The number of presentations given every day has never been greater. But the quality isn't that true, the quality of most presentations has never been lower. So that's why we don't just have a problem, We have a huge problem. Now, if you want to solve that problem, you need to have three skills, forget about everything else. Three skills, you need to have the ability to develop a compelling message, you need to have the ability to amplify your message using effective visuals and you also need to have the ability to deliver your talk in a way that's comfortable and convincing and for you to be able to do that. We are going to work on a methodology, the method that we've developed, that's what we use when we work with our clients, we call it presentation score. Now score stands for simple, clear, original related and enjoyable, simple because the more you say, the less they remember, so you need to keep it short, simple and to the point clear, because your objectives and your key messages should be obvious to everybody, including you as the presenter original, because you want your presentation to stand out to be a bit different so that they will pay more attention and remember it for longer related because as we'll see in the next lesson, when you give a presentation, it's their presentation nor yours, it's always the audiences presentation and so you need to make sure that what you say is useful and relevant to them and then enjoyable. Well of course if your audience enjoys your talk, then again they will pay more attention and remember more. So if you want to be able to make presentations that score, if you want to go from a crappy power point to a powerful presentation, you need to work on four steps and we're going to do this together in this course, ideation, creation, illustration and delivery ideation is about brainstorming to find your key messages with the audience at the center, creation is about translating your key messages into a clear story line that helps your audience understand and remember illustration is about amplifying your storyline with effective visuals and then delivery is about preparing to speak rehearsing and yes delivering your presentation in a way that's comfortable and convincing. Now this is a practical course, it's not just theory and entertainment, you are going to develop your own presentation as you go through the course, so if you want to get the most out of it, what I suggest you do is to after completing this video, you can download all the templates I've provided because they will help you develop your own presentation following the principles that you're going to learn here and now in the next lesson, we are going to start with the first step of a method ideation, which is about understanding your audience and the needs, setting your objective and brainstorming to find your key messages. I'll see you there

I was just beginning to create a series of presentations when I noticed this course. Serendipity! I thought I knew what I was doing, but learned some great techniques. More importantly I learned what NOT to do. Now I have much more confidence in the process.
