everybody likes jam. Who doesn't like jam? Seriously? I dream about flavors. Trade street jam company makes low sugar vegan jams for pretty much everything under the sun honey. Do you know how many things you can do with this jam? You can make cocktails, you can put on roasted meats or veggies, oatmeal. The uses are endless. I've been a chef for about 15 years. I needed something fun to do after work. I'm not a big T. V. Watcher. I would stop at this store on the way home grab a bunch of fruit, anything like weird and exotic that they had and I start cooking. I started jamming too much. You don't like the fun, you like the bananas honey. Yeah. My husband is my test dummy. I guess you can say you want some more. You like mommy's cooking. When I started Trade street, I was selling on another e commerce platform and we're also selling a lot of jim in person but Covid hit and all the markets shut down which freaked me out. I'm already scared about being a new mommy. And then on top of that...

I'm worried about the life of my business. People started ordering specialty food online. So we immediately had to pivot and focus all my efforts on selling online. When people go on google and they searched jam or jelly. I want them to be able to find my brand with google ads, they can type those things in and I pop up you guys that's huge being able to sell on our website. It really did save us. I couldn't imagine going back to not using google products. We went from making 2000 jars every two months to making 2000 jars every two weeks. Our sales increased by 1000%. It was crazy. I've hired four or 5 different contractors, hiring feels amazing. I think it's so important for our product to have a story behind it. I think when people see a woman behind the brand, a person of color, it just really adds something to that jar other than jam, you kiss my name, you kissing mommy. I want to be able to grow up and look at me and say like my mom did that, I wouldn't trade that for the world. A strong web presence has long helped small businesses reached customers. But consumer behavior is changing rapidly Since the start of 2020, of US consumers have tried a new shopping behavior. Maybe they're trying new ways to buy from businesses they already know and trust like using mobile apps or maybe they switched and now buy products from different businesses. Maybe these businesses have better mobile apps right now. So changes in consumer behavior can be frustrating for marketers but they're also excellent opportunities. Today's consumers are motivated by ease, convenience and trust. So the opportunity can arise in key moments during a consumer's purchase journey so you can grab their attention with a strong web presence, one that easy to navigate, convenient and trustworthy customers often look to websites and moments of need. How would they need a strong website that provides a frictionless experience. You're more than likely to win their business. So let's start by reviewing web design. When people hear web design, they often think of the graphic design. The websites look and feel. But the look and feel is just one component of web design. Yeah. So within the graphic template there are lots of common elements that appear. Most websites including the header or the top section of the site. The header usually includes a company logo in the top left corner and most website visitors expect that that logo, if they click on it, will link them back to the home page. So the footer or the bottom section of the website. The footer usually includes important links, contact information and even copyright information and of course the navigation. So usually horizontally across the top of the site or vertically on the left hand side. Uh effective websites follow guidelines that keep webpages consistent. You know, color spawned sizes and styles, types and content and all that stuff. Uh And some sites are designed and built from scratch, but many sites actually use a content management system or a CMS. Most CMS is, you know, the options include web tools that allow you to easily build, customize and update your website. I'm sure you know them. There are many options out there. They're all a little different, you know, like things like Shopify, Wix Wordpress, just to name a few. And if you're getting started, we really recommend that you try a few and find the CMS that you're most comfortable using, this is a really important thing. But whether you're building a website from scratch or using a CMS, all the principles from todays workshop apply. Mm All right. So in today's session, we'll look at five characteristics of a great website. A website is not all about eye catching design. A great site should be goal oriented. Search friendly offers a convenient experience for the customers, has pages and content that are organized and intuitive to navigate, and works to gain a customer's trust.
