How to Identify the Goals of Your Videos
The next question to think about is what do you wanna get out of videos? I've got some questions in the workbook that ask you, on page two, what's the big picture goal of your business, and then what's your next step? What's a smaller goal that you're gonna work on in the next two to three months? How many of you guys use this process of like breaking down your goals already in your business? Do you have some kind of goal in mind? About half of you, okay (laughs). If you're thinking about what's the next thing that, obviously what do I want big picture and then what's the next thing that's gonna get me there? That's gonna help you figure out how you're gonna use videos because all of it needs to fit into your own goals and your own vision. I don't want you to add just any marketing tool just because you hear that you should do it. So whether it's Instagram or it's email marketing or it's YouTube, it needs to fit in with where you already wanna go, and you need to see how it'll help you...
get there. Because when things get tough and you don't feel like shooting a video or nobody's watching your videos yet, you need to have clearly in your mind I'm doing this because I wanna be here. And so the more you can tie in how these videos are gonna help your goal, the more you're gonna be able to stick with it consistently week after week, the more you're gonna make it work for you and the better videos you're gonna create, because they're gonna be really laser focused on what you most wanna get out of your video. So that's my question for you. If you're thinking about your goals right now, and we talked about how videos can help right, they build trust, they build authority, they build your confidence. I want you to write at the bottom of page two how can videos help you with your goal? Is it that you're looking to build authority because maybe you wanna start speaking or you wanna connect with other people or bigger clients? Is it that you need to build more trust because you have a high-end product and customers aren't quite ready to buy it and so you wanna build ongoing trust with them or relationships? How can the videos help you do that? Yeah, well I have a goal of doubling my sales from what I did last year. Awesome. I think it's possible, and I think that videos could really help me expand my customer base and just connecting with new people. Excellent, so you wanna use it to get found by new people? Yes. And to build that relationship. One of the things I didn't mention is with that relationship and trust is also loyalty. I know this has definitely been true in my business. Somebody will become a customer then catch my videos, and then keep watching them, and so when I launch my next thing, they're excited for it. It gives you a built-in base of people who are, want to hear about your next product whether they've already bought or they haven't bought yet. Is there any way I can do it without me being on video? For my job, I can't be doing videos about my small side business. Which makes sense if you work in a large company, it's just not possible. Can you give some examples or do you know of any good companies and people who don't really show themselves in the video but perhaps still promote the side business or work. Yes, so I'm gonna think on that example question and I'll have more examples later or I'll share it so that it can be shared in the chat room, because I need to think on examples of people who don't show their faces. But we are gonna talk about which video format is best for you and in that deciding on the format, you can definitely go with a format where it's not your face and maybe it's just your hands. Actually, yeah we're gonna cover a format that is like a vlog format which could all be from your perspective. So instead of thinking of the camera looking at your face, think of it as a camera looking out on the world and you sharing your view with the whole world. Now in truth, it's gonna be hard to build relationships and a connection with your audience if you don't either show your perspective or show your face. They're gonna need to get to know you, and the more kind of distance you put in between who you really are and the videos you share, the harder it'll be for them to feel that connection, but it's definitely possible.
