What Is Lightroom Classic?
What is Light room? Classic? Well, we have to go way back in time. So back in the day when we had film, we had two things that we used to do a lot. The first thing was we would take that film and we put the negatives on a light table and then we take this little thing called the loop. We look through those. We magnify those things and say, okay, this one image on this film strip was good and we choose the winners. And then we take those images that we wanted to process into the dark room. And then when we develop those and then make prints and posters and all that stuff and deliver those two clients. And so light room is a combination of those two things. And so we have our light table. So we have the light right there and then we have the dark room. And so if you put these two together, you have light room. So that is what that is. It's a system for organizing and selecting and managing stills and videos. So that's in the light table part and assisting a system for adjusting images. T...
hat's the dark room part. And it's also a system for publishing images to books and the web and printing things and getting those out to books. And so it's an entire workflow. If we look at the interface and light room Classic. And so we look over here, you can see it is set up for workflow. That's a process. And so if we look at this, you can see up here, we have different modules. We have the library module. That's what we're looking at right now. That is where you sort and file and filter. It's like the light table used to be. So, here's all of our thumbnails, it's sort of like the negatives on a light table and we have the develop module, that's the next module here. So if I click on that, you'll see. We have there's mean, let's go to a different picture. We have a different image here where we can change the exposure, we can change the colour, all that stuff. So we go from our light table, our library module, we choose winners. We go into the develop module where we edit those and develop them like we used to in the dark room, then we take those notice, we have the book slideshow Print and web. These are all outputs. And so we go in, we had just and then we output all this thing. And then we also have the map module to figure out how to organize things geographically where images were taken. Um and so if we want to look and say, hey, where are all my images from France are from Germany or from Yellowstone or whatever. We can look at a map and see where things are uh taken. We can organized, we can slice and dice. We can keyword, we can look at things from the perspective of like what camera I want to see. All the images I've shot with my Canon camera or my Canon five D mark for my Canon are five for my like M 10 or my 35 millimeter lens or whatever. I want to see all the images I shot in 2020. You can sort by date and just a lot of stuff. We're gonna go into the library module and show you that. But it is a system that you can uh totally organized and filter and find and develop an output and it's all surrounded by workflow, which we're going to talk about in a little bit, But that is light room classic. Then the question is, what's the difference between light room Classic and light room and Photoshop? Well, let's talk about that next.

Great class - excellent content, excellent presentation. Thank you Mark, through this class, I finally understand the difference between Adobe Lightroom Classic, Lightroom and how they work together. And how excellent, there is so much more available to learn - photography essentials, lighting, Adobe products.

This is an excellent class to learn about Lightroom Classic. Since it's not the same as Photoshop, I found Lightroom Classic to be confusing and difficult to intuitively figure out. Mark Wallace is an expert and exceptional teacher for the program and I learned so much today in this free class presentation that I am planning to purchase the program so I can continue to have a solid understanding of Lightroom Classic basics. Thanks, Mark, for inspiring me to get back into computer photo editing with LR Classic!
