Your Definition of Success
We are going to talk about becoming the alternative based on your personality and brand and also your strengths like what you bring to the table and what your brand is how to become the alternative see if this clicker wants to work for me or not doesn't really want teo there we go we're going to talk about why you have to think of yourself first and how to figure out what you should be selling why you must consider your strength and personality and and how to build a business around them so this stuff is really important and when you do it you create something that nobody else can create the importance of values and beliefs we've touched on that a little bit but we're going to dive even deeper into it and why your differences the gold so why it really is the best to be yourself we're going to start off module six which is your definition of success and this one gets me really excited because we're talking about something that I love to talk about whenever we're planning your business a...
nd that's what success means to you what you want your business to look like because sometimes we look at businesses and we think oh we have to be like that or we see somebody hit a certain goal of theirs then all of a sudden it starts to become one of those markers for ourselves often here six figures over and over and over again and if that is really a goal of yours than perfect but if it's not that's ok too so it's important for you to know what you want the last thing you want to do is build a business that ends up making you miserable oh my gosh you guys it breaks my heart how often I see people do this and it's really that they didn't think out what they wanted their life to look like what success really meant to them and I've seen people have to start from scratch and be devastated by it because they've built this business that doesn't feel like them at all they feel like they're being a separate person for it and so it not no longer feels good at first it was like okay, I can do this and then it doesn't feel good anymore so what's your definition of success what you guys also think about what your definition of success is and I want you to share your chat in the chat room what your definition of success is what would may make you feel like you've made it what's going to make you feel like I have made it I'm there what are your top priorities personal and professional? This is another picture my doggie because my doggies are one of my top priorities hi little guy examples family pets, health, community creativity, friendship, spirituality honesty, customer service, prestige, helping others learning growth, simplicity, there's so many different things that could be your top priorities just truly about what you prioritize and you want to think about these things when you are figuring out what your definition of success is. My definition is being well known for making a full time living by helping creative entrepreneurs build successful businesses around the lives they want to live while choosing my work hours, giving myself time to cook and eat with my husband, walk my dogs and pamper myself. So when I'm doing all of those things, I feel like I've got it. I feel like life is good that's what success feels like for me, my priorities, health, family, marry dogs, teaching and learning both of those things are priorities to me. I am a lifelong learner until I constantly prioritize learning I have taken body christine's create a live course, I have taken so many different courses I love to read, I've got a library of books that I can choose from that's important to me to have time for that kind of stuff. Creativity is also a priority that's why I has built photography into my business, I don't sell photography, but it's a part of my business because it helps me have that creative aspect, and then I also share my other creative ventures like I have shared when I tried out watercolor painting and I share out my I share my knitting projects and things like that, these are my top priorities, and when I'm taking care of this stuff, it feels really good and when this is happening, it feels like I don't need anything else. It feels as if I'm excited to wake up in the morning, I'm excited to work on my business and I feel is if I'm taking care of myself because I think that's important, sometimes that really gets lost, so when I say that, for instance, working on a course like this, I am staying up really late getting up really early, I'm also taking breaks during the day I'm moving my body away a lot, I take lots of five ten minute exercise breaks to really get that energy going and flowing when I feel my shoulders are tight and tense, I'll ask my husband for a little soul shoulder massage I'll say, can you help me with my shoulders here? Because I've been sitting at the computer for hours, I make sure that I'm eating really well so that it's fueling me and then I take a lot of time off afterwards to reenergize because I know that that's a priority to me, so what is your definition of success? Anybody want to share their definition a success or bits of it you don't have to share the whole thing. You could tell us parts of it yes where can we find you? Amanda creek at amanda kri kri of dot com um one of the biggest things for me is to be able to travel like freedom of location to be able to experience different cultures and different people around the world. So that's like if I can do that I think I'll be successful I don't need anything else actually that's a camera equipment e oh, so are you already trying to build your business in that way? Well, I've done that in the past but not through my business so I yes I want toe move that direction but to get the finances there is the difficult part so for me so I'm trying tio I don't want it to be about money cause I don't need much they really don't like I said travel and camera equipment and I'm fine but, you know be where I don't stress about it. I don't want to have that, you know, lingering in the back of my head where I'm like I have to work like seventy two hours a day, which doesn't exist yeah, yeah and we all have these massive to do list sometimes comes really overwhelming anybody else want to share lots of hands let's hear from sarah where can we find you'll serve? Inaki dot com I want a business that allows me also to pursue my creative writing like I love writing novels some of my favorite things in the world I work with birds all day is an editor so it's important for me also to have the time to work on my own words which would be great and and how often do you have the time to actually unfortunately not a lot because of a full time job I'm trying to find a way to prioritize and schedule my time which I hope working with sage well teo s o I'm trying to find a way to make broom for both while still having full time job and friends and family and health and all the other factors okay great wonderful ten if I have time for my children god it's huge so the time to really put into the relationships that are most important to me that's that's really critical and also the time for and the money the freedom for experiences for all of us I think that travel is so important I think that you know sometimes my daughter's like I really want to take an acting class and for her that would be so good for her and I want to just be able to feel like I can give her those things without a lot of strain yeah like you can just make those purchases and not feel like this is breaking the bank, right? Yeah, and what would time for children for your children look like? Does that mean that flexibility with flexibility so that if there is something time sensitive for them that I have the flexibility to be their perfect? You want to think about who, what and how when you're thinking about success and what you really want your business to look like? And this is on page seventeen of the workbook. So who do you wanna work within health? Who? I mean really, who do you want to work with and help, not necessarily who you're currently working with? Who does it feel really good to work with? What do you want to be known for? What would you like to help change in this world? You know that sounds kind of idealistic, but if you could change something and you are part of that, what would it be? What problems do you want to solve? Even if it's for a small group of people, it could be something that is a problem for you, your one on one clients or the people who buy from you, it doesn't have to be world or life changing and how do you want to do it? And how usually relates back to what you want your life to look like? I often like to get up in the beginning of the day and think about where the projects I'm really excited to work on today and work from there, and I can't do that when I have a lot of things scheduled and so I like to keep my calendar pretty open, so I only schedule one on one clients every once in a while usually just once a year all open up, maybe ten spots and that's it and it's because I spent a lot of time on my one on one clients I've really they're they're investing a lot of time, they're investing a lot of money and I really want to help them move forward and help them see success, and so if I'm going to do a consulting session that's pretty much all I do that day I work leading up to the session, then we have the session and then I need some downtime because I've been doing a ton of work and so it takes up usually an entire day, so I only open up those spots once a year not because I don't like working with people individually, but because it's not what I want my life to look like on all the all the time kind of basis so that how usually relates back to what you want your life to look like and I like to mix it up like I liketo have one on one sometimes I like to do group things sometimes coming to heat, coming here and being able tio work with you guys it's a group, but I feel like I'm getting to know each of you individually, so I feel like there is that individual piece I'm getting to know people in the chat rooms so there's that peace still built into it, I like to mix it up like to do stuff online stuff in person I just got invited to come teo creative artist retreat and work with maybe about twenty makers and I'm thinking about considering that because that would be something completely different. So think about it how you want to do it because the work that you want to do can probably be done in a lot of different ways. Do you have any thoughts on any of this stuff? Anything coming up for anybody, especially with how and relating it back to what success means to you? Yeah, so kate at some flour paper dot com and one of the things I think I've taken from this class and the previous class is how I love how you think about it in terms of, um, what you want your data look like and so that's something when you're talking about this morning and I'm like the older I get the last concerned I am about being rich or having a lot of money, but I would like the financial freedom to travel I have a dog too, so that's one of the reasons I thought connected with you and your story. Yeah, so one of the things I would like to be known for is having a senior dog sanctuary it's like a space for old dogs to come, so I think a lot of times and I think about my business, I want to structure it so that I can give my time back to causes that I feel passionate about, so dogs rescue dogs on I also feel really passionate about access to higher education that's where I currently work, so maybe somehow giving back to students who wouldn't otherwise be able to go to college and helping them through that process. So yeah, so that's just some thoughts from your last couple of comments, I like that, and a lot of times people start to have a lot of guilt when they're thinking about one of their goals and of success being about money. And I don't think it should be like that because it's not just because you want more money and you want to be rich and famous, but it often ties back to you want to support the brands that you want to support you want teo give to charities that you really care about so it's, not always just about when people come to me and they feel that guilt I'm like, well, what is it that you want to have more money to dio I'm like, why feel guilty about any of that stuff? That sounds incredible. I sort of, uh, have a little guilt around that you help me with. Is that being okay with having some time? Tio for yourself, it's almost like it almost feels like you should be working around the clock and, you know, and the idea that you would space it out and not just, you know, shove every minute of the day crammed with things that you would make time for yourself seems so luxurious in the beginning, I will tell you that I barely did that for about the first six months I was working around the clock, and it was actually my husband who said, you really need to take some time off, like, I feel like you're getting a little bit stressed out. Mimi on also, I would kind of like my wife back a little bit and so take some time off and I thought, I do deserve some time off it's because I love the work I was doing so much. That I wanted to do it so often and I didn't want to take breaks, and so that was part of it as well, but now that I have this better balance and I hate using that word because I feel like there is no balance there, you just go with what what's happening and you plan out things the way that you want them to be. And so my life was not balanced when I was planning for these courses, whereas it's going to feel a lot more balance when I take some relaxing time, right? But so you have to figure that out, and once you do it and you feel how good it feels, it's, like, I'm going to do this more often, and then you start to feel okay about it because there was that guilt that we should be doing things that all the time and no, we're better entrepreneurs, we were better friends were better spouse is we're better mothers were better everything when we're also taking care of ourselves, because when I'm stressed out, my husband would probably much rather be at work, but then at home, because I'm a pain in the butt to deal with when I'm stressed out, so we are better people who only take care of ourselves till

April, I purchased your class and I love what you have created. The workbook helped me to identify key points that I needed to think about. I have had a business for a while now, and I wanted to give my shop and blog a fresh look. I certainly got exactly what I was looking for in your videos and most of all with your fabulous hand-outs and workbook. Your style is A-dorable and although I am 66 years old, I am never too old to learn something new. April, you will always be successful in everything that you do because your passion is contagious. Thank you. I am sitting here this morning with a notebook and your workbook. You have helped me identify points about my business that I was overlooking. By going through the process, I feel wonderful about my products and have a new outlook. You are amazing! Karen
