Equipment for Fusion
This isn't thing these are things that you're going to need and we'll get into them a little bit but overall you're going to need a professional dslr camera that has view capabilities we have cannon versus nikon battle of debate and they'll have pros and cons, but overall they're all great they're all great for doing this purpose I mean there's not one that I would say don't use you know I mean, I know guys that do fusion with cam flip cams or their their sony cybershot and it does video the only difference is when they put it next to the photographs it's not gonna match that's why we definitely advocate the use of a professional dslr with good optics you obviously wanted to shoot in hd so seven twenty or ten eighty both of those are considered hd ideally you want to shoot in ten any and if you need to downscale, you can because just like a photograph, if you're shooting a small j pay, can you try to upscale it to the size of a large day peg just going to destroy the image? And why hd?
Because you know what the days of delivering anything in standard definition are gone okay the old tv standard activities you don't see him anymore everything is now you know seven, twenty or ten eighty and it's only going up from there so you didn't want to shoot the highest resolution can, so it actually had shelf life later on down the line in some form, if you shoot ending its instead of definition, now you're gonna have a hard time delivering it on the web, because although you can scale down the web to really small things, everything now that streaming from like youtube video on all these sites either seven twenty for ten eighty right? So they're large format images will define those numbers for you little bit. You're going to want a way to keep the camera study that could be a mono pod tripod grill. A pod will show you some of those very much detailed or using your surroundings if you need to steady yourself and just briefly standing yourself is probably rule number one. When it comes to video, you can use your surroundings so you can just put your camera on the table or put yourself on the grounds. If you don't have a mono pod, tripod, grill pod, something like that to steady yourself and you're just itching to get out there and shoot something, just the road on a table and press record or put it in the grass. Impressive car don't try to hand hold these cameras will get into why but it's probably not a good idea you just going to be very disappointed with the results when you get home because what looks good on the back of the camera doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna look good on screen we have a lot of size that's the tire for is know what that's like right it's like wow, this is super sharp saturate a wonderful image and the blood up there like oh huh, theo ground here is in vogue is and everything else is a way to keep the camera steady so we're dslr and a way to keep the camera steady and the third thing you're going to want is a video editing program program with p capitalized so there are a lot of different things that you can use to edit video clips one of them is photoshopped you guys know that photo shop handles video if you have photoshopped six you're golden handles video all versions if you have photoshopped three four five the extended versions of three for five so photoshopped three extended for extended or five extended all have video capabilities built in as well. So right now since the regular version of csx handles video and you're thinking of upgrading to see essex now's the time but photoshopped does do that and their various things that you can use in photo shop we have a program that muse called fusion effects and it's just a script it takes photo shops current capabilities and pulls them out and makes it easy to use in like a script action format and we'll talk about that as well one of our absolute favorite ways to edit fusion pieces is using and a moto how many of you guys know an emoto about half which is actually pretty cool so the fusion piece that you just saw that was built in an emoto I didn't no more work in creating all those transitions then sitting impressing render and going downstairs and having a martini okay, so an tomato does that kind of thing for you it is a photo and video capable slideshow program it's what you know so just upload everything you know those of you who have messed around with that motor you're like yeah it's great but for those of you don't know it really is so simple it's a simple is going upload photos, upload videos, arrange them pick my style of music pick a piece music and hit render and it does the rest for you which is great because got remember something your clients don't know that you didn't spend four, five, six, seven, eight hours doing all those crazy funky transit transitions and there's tons of different styles so find one that suits your brand suit your style and make it easy on yourself definitely I movie is probably given if you guys have max I movie is a really great way to room his eye moving teo add extra audio two a piece, but you can use it nuts and bolts to create the entire slideshow our entire fusion piece, you can get pretty extensive with my movie or if you wanted to go really, really expensive, you can learn things like final cut, so final cut is where we're going to chop off the equipment thing for what we're doing here. We're going to talk about everything above final cut on day three funnel cake, it's a little bit more complicated way we're doing a video editing in terms of making films, we would use the program like a cot or premier, but we're really going to just try to keep it, because we want you guys to see just how easy this is, because in reality, this is actually very easy. All I have to do is show you how to do it, just like you learn anything else, just like you learned how to use your new camera when you bought it, just like you learn to do use the new version of light room when you got it, you know it. It really is just a learning curve but it's not the huge learning curve especially when it comes to the editing it does take time to teach it and learn it but after that it's really quite easy you know I'm just curious if you just take a second I just want to ask some of you what is it about video that's keeping you or has maybe prevented you or maybe held you back from from working with it? And if we could just maybe just go quickly around the room or it's going to get an idea of the sense here of the people in the studio I've worked in a movie a little bit and looked at an emoto what is holding me back is what happens to it to either post it or compress it now just I get so frustrated rendering the exporting oh right but a ce faras I've worked in our movie I did not know I have see us five I think s I did not know six were photoshopped what she was saying in photo shop so I just I need help with what to do with it when I'm finished with it and we're going sparkling stream on that for you I movies great for assembling everything but it's not great for affecting and making your video clips look more like your photographs and applying filters and doing like sixteen you're cool color grading and things like that so yet each each there's like a process like a workflow that will bring you into my movie with the correct looking in the jury's ten and you could build it from their perfect we're gonna get a lot right? Thank you. I had no idea you could video photoshopping that's critical yeah, you know there's limitations but we'll definitely talk about what it can do yeah, I guess it's far just limiting I feel pretty comfortable with the video aspect, but I guess ford is putting out all together, you know, making a final peace, you know, and delivering it and just putting all together in general, you know, process yeah, I get it it's a matter of workflow mine is when I'm in a family session when do I stop photographing switch to the video just feels awkward. I'm always like oh, because I don't see what the tripod so I put my tripod now and she videos so that's my biggest problem, we'll give you some great work are you comfortable for you and your clients? For me? I just haven't had the capability for awhile just recently upgraded to the camera but also just not like you were saying not knowing how to deliver it not not necessarily in the presentation of how the rendering the next morning, but how to integrated into my product line how to market it like vanessa saying that's intimidating to me because some people like my iphone I can make my own video so how should make that something that people will want purchased so it's a good one yeah that's a great that's a great angle I thought finally pro and I've been playing around with it and I sort of can handle really rudimentary wait but I think my issue two is in the family sessions you know it's the garbage in garbage out right I'm doing I'm taking some photos and then I'm hand holding for the video and so it's not that great so I have it's mostly just in the actual shooting of it that right? Okay good yeah I mean yes please we would left teo tell you what folks are saying a line from the internet absolutely love to hear so ken wallace films says the equipment required beyond the d s a lot to shoot so that the dolly and the tripod and then the time required to do a fully finished product is what has held him back and steve hartson said on facebook because we asked the same questions there said the cost of rigging it correctly lenses audio on dh carry long back says she's just scared about focus pull focus does field manager a management and oh yeah focus yeah you know I just I love hearing all of these different things that it's encouraging is we're going to talk about all these I actually want to talk about now the part about equipment and how much it costs because that's what we're going to get into next and what we've done is just separated this into the needs and the wants when it comes to equipment so your basic needs are your dslr camera your stabilization device and a way to edit fundamentally that you're back that's your starting space you don't all the other toys are secondary to that first and then when it comes to the once um these are just getting a little bit more specific so I will show you this in a minute specific stabilization device that love is the man fratto five sixty one b h d v mono pod would you believe that I actually had a nightmare on dh thought I wouldn't say that in the way I was like five devi know b I don't know yeah great that we're going to get rich we're gonna get a lot of improvement this is this is the industry tool okay? You look a cinematographers and fusion artists anywhere in the country chances are they're gonna have this exact piece of advice of people equipment it comes with the head just like this okay it's got a tilt it's got pan capabilities with a swivel on the bottom and it's got these neat little articulating feet okay, which allows you great stability with this I mean, it doesn't get much more stable than that. Okay and not the deal we ever want to leave it like that with your camera on it but that just shows you how stable it is and that's a matter of expressing it with your body to really get a nice stable image so the first piece of advice I would give you for stabilization would be this mono pod any mono pod will work but there are differences having the feet on the bottom makes a big difference okay, just the regular mono pod that has just the toe like that is going to be a little bit it's goingto kind of waiver on you a little bit so having the feet on the bottom makes a huge difference and then having a head that gives you some mobility upon the top makes a big difference as well. So that's the man yes oh if you don't, if you want to upgrade your stabilization device that would be our recommendation for the first thing the upgrade the second would be the road video mike pro and in a nutshell having on external microphone is going to help me capture clean audio because the microphone that's on your camera whatever camera you have it's just not that great in fact, some of the models actually have the microphone pointing backwards towards you which doesn't make any sense, but when they designed a lot of these cameras, the microphone yet sort of located on the back, so you're going to hear you going hey, so you don't want you don't want that. I had a road video micro over here, there's one for you, I saw him running around with it sounds like he's listen, we're going to get into audio in death, okay, but we will briefly use an external mike do not trust the mic on these cameras. It's not meant for professional capture did you know interesting fact about dslr video in these cameras when it was first developed and integrated into the five team are too. It was meant for journalists, the idea of the thought process that cannon wass if we integrate video into these cameras when a journalist is out in the field and the snapping photographs and he's covering a press conference, he could flip over into video mode and maybe shoot a couple shots that they use on their website and things like that. So if you think about it, the actual output and reason why they put in here was for some sort of fusion right makes kind of sense a little bit of sense they wanted to have that capability so they didn't have to hire a videographer and go out with the photographer with the news photographer so they had a built in. They did not anticipate that amateur filmmakers and videographers wedding video was going to pick up on this, and when they did, they were like way gonna make a ton more and that's exactly what happened. The price went up so a microphone would definitely be one of the girls in the once and then after that the glide track, which is what you see well, this is this is a synovate atlas, but did the general idea behind a slider is that it mimics the dolly movement of the camera. Okay, so if you ever watched a major movie productions most of the times, like ron comes of romantic comedies and and movies that are not action thrillers and chase scenes and stuff like that movement is always very deliberate. Okay, it's meant the eye, the eyes meant for motion. If you want to create common peace and serenity and nice dialogue, you want the camera to be very intentional. If you want to create tension and drama a little bit of anxiety, the camera moves a little bit more. You have a little more emotion, but moviemaking when they want to do a a movement like this with the camera that does go side to side or front the back this's called dolly this is called, you know, truck, basically they use huge rigs on rails, and they lay down railroad tracks basically, and that these huge rigs. And if you've ever seen a behind the scenes of the movie, you always see, like, four guys pushing it. You know, there's one guy on top is going for a ride, and then you have a guy pulling focus. I mean, this is that on a very small scale. Okay, so a slider is basically it gives you great stability. You can leave it there and use it as a tripod, you know, as a stabilizer. But then you also have the ability to do these very slow, intentional creeping movements, which gives, gives it a vory cinema field on dh. They're very light devices, most of them they're very simple in design. But there are differences between the good ones and bad ones, and we'll get a look at that little bit. I want to keep moving along here. So we have the needs, the wants. And then the last thing on the wants here is a viewfinder, and a lot of people listed this in the fears and a hostage do focus and being able to see on the back of your camera you have. Executives, the finder and secure we'll be giving away is the finder jr really awesome. But it's a little attachment that just goes on the back of your camera so you can see what the heck is going on. It magnifies the lcd screen by three, okay? And I find it much more obviously outdoors. It's much easier. See your lcd screen? How many of you have shot you outside? But I can't see what I'm doing. Even photographs like you want to see a photograph? You can't right that's why these air? Incredible for that it's got a frame that goes right around your old city screen with a with a base plate that connects to the bottom of the camera and it just allows you to pop, but on just like that. So it's real quick, you could have this on the land you're hanging around your neck actually comes with lander that hangs around your neck and then you just pop it on and you can look your viewfinder thes things. They're really good for focusing. If you're having a hard time not shooting very shallow and you can't really tell by the lcd screen, this will really help you to do that. Yeah it's really honestly a great piece of equipment even for just a tardy you know, if you're outside and you want to see your photograph that you just took even sometimes it's hard to even read the history graham if it's really bright outside that's a really great tools so that's why we like those in the once because you could tell those wants or almost needs you could see how useful they are and then we have our section of things to dream about so we have the flyer there's a few different brands here steadicam or a glide cam rob's going to bring that over I use a glide cam's the hd four thousand I'm a glide cam guy I like clyde cam I think they do a phenomenal job and the prices can't be beat in terms of you know you could get a rig they'll do the same thing as a very expensive steadicam rig but it's just a fraction of the price a lot of time so as you can see here the camera is floating okay it's just on the swift on a gimbal basically and it's very controlled its counterbalance and this takes practice okay, this's I could teach a whole course on this alone once it's like riding a bike once you have the muscle memory down and you can balance yourself it's pretty much you never forget it and that it's a matter of this perfecting the art of staying steady but this is what gives the camera that flying look you know like it's flying around corners actually posted a little video yesterday well that's right of life here did I just didn't like us you know shot off set that's going around I was wearing the vest and I had the arm on this on these are great but they're very advanced okay this takes a lot of practice but if you could get the hang of it it really will up the production value let's dream about number one to truth about number two is actually the exact slider that rob showed you before it's called synovate atlas this is a high end slider you know having some sort of a track is good synovate in my opinion the best their rigs are very very modular the vory adaptable a lot of the pieces are interchangeable and I think for the money you know the motion is just fantastic smooth they're durable in this peace this this is the actual slider that I use on all of my stuff okay when it's bear without the camera on it it weighs probably with the head probably about six pounds so you're not carrying around this huge rig and the head that I have on here is made by man photo and it's actually the photo video head by manfro and I'm going to move some stuff around here this's I was holding so basically this head has to moses got a movie in a photo mode and when it's in photo mode you can actually tell tit you know vertically which is helpful if you're on uneven terrain it's got a bubble level so you can just kind of go okay now I'm even so does it matter how your legs were sitting on the video mode is locked so where it won't do that so it'll still move left and right and you can still tilt up and down but it won't go to the side and you know these things can be stood up on their sides and they could do up and down movements there's a lot you can do and we'll demonstrate a lot of this is we're shooting to give you an idea of how we integrate this into our video shooting in our in our photo shoots so that is joon got nowhere to put your about number three would be the digital audio recorder we're going to get into audio and all that stuff in a little bit but digital water audio free corner and think no that's the zoom age for and we don't have that one anymore. Although that's not it's not a bad injury level device the zoom age foreign we've just kind of moved up to a little bit higher quality devices this isn't it of roland or another all our forty for a four channel input audio device it records right tost memory cards this is great if doing multitrack audio it's a little bit overkill if you're just recording one person or one source you could plug wireless devices into this or you could run a mic directly out of it however you want to do it if you're going mike up like a like a bride and groom or groom for a ceremony you do something more portable like this this is a task ham de ouro seven mark to you hat's our task cam d r o seven mark to task and e r o seven mark too question not a question I just wantto point out to folks in the audience that you're full gear list is on the course page there's a little tab down there that says gear list so that's a great following for you guys to go reference to along with a digital audio recorder and again we're going to go into this in more detail later but you want to have a very high quality laval ear microphone this is the kind of microphone that just sort of plugs in venice and I right now we're both wearing them is hidden so you wouldn't want to ruin the aesthetic of the outfit but this is this is perfect this is you know, kind of the setup you want tohave to get nice crystal clear audio those of you watching at home can hear the audio coming for me right now. That's because of the high quality love mike on dh you know, these range in price, it just depends. But all of this year, no matter what you do, the fundamental to remember is you get what you pay for. Actually, we're going to get into that next month. But the last thing on the jury about is in jim crane and that's what that man right there is working on. We're totally going to show you what that is, because that is hot e I mean, rob, does that work with one that's crazy that you could just see and imagine and see? Because you're looking at the products from this kind of fluid motion as it just glides up in a way and they really cool, they're actually showing you a shot right now of the what it does. Things come in all different scales, different sizes. I actually use one on my video shoots on film shoots that's probably about a third of the size, but it's fantastic in terms of what it could do in the production value that lens to whatever you're shooting, this is again to dream about kind of stuff if you really want to go that far into it. So this is the document I'm going to go through this quickly because we have fifteen more minutes and we want to talk to you about video lingo in a minute. But if you had a thousand dollars and this is available, you guys actually download this pdf so I won't go into it too much. We have a list here of what you should rent with a thousand dollars and we used ones pret a gofer, a rental. They're awesome. They ship it right to you and shipping is included back teo, which is just no hassle, really nice and quick. But if you had a thousand dollars to rent equipment and then if you had a thousand dollars to buy equipment, I think come back that you actually have the pdf if you have enrolled in this course, which I imagine we all have, not necessarily. So. If you haven't do that, make sure that you enroll in this course because you get a pdf of this for free and I'm gonna switch it really quick so you can't see it. You got it.

Worth every penny and then some! i just purchased the course and can't stop watching it. I normally don't give such high praise, but these guys turn out a very high end product and are so efficient with their workflow. The class was so full of information, they walk you through the process step -by-step, and take the fear out of photo and video fusion. I can see how the thought of adding video to your workflow can be intimidating, but Rob and Vanessa do an amazing job of simplifying the process and showing you which programs and scripts will make your life easier. This is THE photo and video fusion course to buy if you are contemplating adding video to boost your sales. Great job and thanks to Creative Live for finding such great instructors!

They were good as 'teachers'.Well organized. Rehearsed!! but they are also good at selling. I think this whole course was a big Ad campaign in a way for their sponsors like Animoto and especially for Their actions!! It actually turned me off. Felt like they were trying to sell me something- A live infomercial. Nothing against their work though. They gave you just enough info and tips but the rest really depends on their fusion actions and your skill. They Definitely get you excited to create your own though!

Excellent presentation. In your presentation you modeled appreciation, support, affirmation and humility in a way that was inspirational. These characteristics together with a depth of knowledge in your topic area gave it huge integrity. Thanks!
