Day 1: Draw Your Beverage

(light music) Hi, my name's Kate Bingaman and Burt and this is 28 To Make. For this project we are going to be drawing our drinks. Hopefully, you stay pretty hydrated and you usually will have a drink that's at arms reach. And what I like to do, whenever I have a little bit of down time instead of checking my phone or my email, I like to draw what I'm currently drinking. And for this project all you're gonna need is paper and some pens or pencils or whatever your favorite drawing tool is. For example, I am currently drinking iced coffee and here is a drawing of iced coffee. One of the things that I like when I am drawing my beverage is again, it's a chance to just take a timeout from your day, slow down and think about either events that have happened during the day, you're kinda meditating a little bit, you're focusing on an object, you're focusing on your line quality. And then sometimes whenever I draw my drinks I also like to play with type. And kind of add the obvious, tiny sauc...

er, tiny cup, tiny spoon. That's the macchiato that I just am currently drinking. Other times with drinks sometimes I get on a drinking kick where I find myself drinking the same thing over and over and over again, hence La Croix, and then also more La Croix. And then more La Croix and more La Croix. And then before you know it just those couple seconds that you slowed down to make a drawing, you've realized that you've started to make a series. Remember, don't spend longer than 20 minutes on each drawing. And if you find yourself enjoying this process where you're able to take a break out of your day, for a drink break and a drawing break, continue to do this and you will see, kind of, the drawings accumulate. And then another fun longer term project is to gather all of your drink drawings together to make one giant print of all of your drinks. And I'm really looking forward to seeing what you're going to be making. Don't forget to share your work, and when you do share your work hashtag it with #28toMake. Thank you! (light music)

I just loved the way this was presented and the immediate connection of the videos and their content which helped me discover and try things I would not have thought I could do. The affirmations from others doing the same thing and being able to gather ideas from the 'sharing' bit was also important for me. I have gained a lot creatively and it has fired parts of my imagination that lay hidden. I am just sorry it is formally over. I missed the last x3 sessions and the portfolio bit due to illness but will complete the other tasks and will continue explore developing those that really opened a creative slot for me. Above all thanks to the tutors - each of you - I loved the content you chose and the enthusiasm and creative energy you conveyed in just a few moments and the generous attitude of the skills share. That's it - Thank you, would recommend to anyone not to miss this opportunity.

I was looking for a way to get back into the habit of creating. The class has some fun ideas for projects that are easy to work on, which is super helpful. Every day I was excited to see what my new project was! But...a few seemed to not be what I considered sketching or drawing and didn't seem to fit the description. Overall, very helpful though :)

Best course ever on Creative Live. It's the foundation for doing anything or everything creative. Even if you think your only creative interest is say photography ...and you're not a drawer, maker or artist of any kind ...think again. This course will open up your mind and you will discover that actually you are a creative and you can pick up a pencil and draw... and it doesn't take up much time... 10-20 minutes a day. In the beginning it's not about the end result, it's about the doing and how it sets something off in your brain. It will make a huge difference to everything else you put your hands and mind to in life.
