Day 2: Draw a Houseplant

[Upbeat Music] Hi! My name is Kate Bingaman-Burt, and this is 28 to Make. For this project we are going to draw our friend, the houseplant. So, why not draw your houseplants? Everyone has houseplants, and what I like about drawing houseplants is that it really gives you a chance to pay attention to these objects that surround us every single day. So, for example, all you're going to need for this project again is paper and your favorite drawing utensil. And this is only going to take you 20 minutes. Again, this is a wonderful time if you're sitting at a table and you see a plant, and you have some down time. Just grab your pens, and grab your paper, and start getting friendly with your friend, the houseplant. There's a couple different ways that you can draw your houseplant. This is an example of one that was just sitting on my kitchen table. And then I decided to kind of have fun with patterns at the bottom. This pattern did not exist on my kitchen table, but I wanted to draw it any...

way. That is your prerogative. If you like patterns, then add patterns to your plants. Another thing that I like to do when I do houseplant drawings is I like to give plants as gifts. Sometimes I will draw a drawing, and then also give the drawing to my friend along with the houseplant, too. It customizes a pretty popular birthday gift. It makes it feel a little bit more personal, too. And a lot of times your drawing is going to out live the plant. I would say probably 95% of the time. Sorry, plant. Another thing if you have extra time, you can add color to your plants. And if you really find yourself enjoying this project, which again should only take you 20 minutes to do for each drawing. Start gathering all your plant drawings together, and make a print of your plant collections. I'm excited to see your plants, and don't forget to share your work with the hashtag #28tomake. Have fun! I just loved the way this was presented and the immediate connection of the videos and their content which helped me discover and try things I would not have thought I could do. The affirmations from others doing the same thing and being able to gather ideas from the 'sharing' bit was also important for me. I have gained a lot creatively and it has fired parts of my imagination that lay hidden. I am just sorry it is formally over. I missed the last x3 sessions and the portfolio bit due to illness but will complete the other tasks and will continue explore developing those that really opened a creative slot for me. Above all thanks to the tutors - each of you - I loved the content you chose and the enthusiasm and creative energy you conveyed in just a few moments and the generous attitude of the skills share. That's it - Thank you, would recommend to anyone not to miss this opportunity.

I was looking for a way to get back into the habit of creating. The class has some fun ideas for projects that are easy to work on, which is super helpful. Every day I was excited to see what my new project was! But...a few seemed to not be what I considered sketching or drawing and didn't seem to fit the description. Overall, very helpful though :)

Best course ever on Creative Live. It's the foundation for doing anything or everything creative. Even if you think your only creative interest is say photography ...and you're not a drawer, maker or artist of any kind ...think again. This course will open up your mind and you will discover that actually you are a creative and you can pick up a pencil and draw... and it doesn't take up much time... 10-20 minutes a day. In the beginning it's not about the end result, it's about the doing and how it sets something off in your brain. It will make a huge difference to everything else you put your hands and mind to in life.
