Improving Site Speed
According to Neil Patel.com, Amazon did a study of their website and found that for every additional second it took their site to load, they lost 1% of revenue. That is a lot the business you're supporting is probably smaller than amazon's but no matter the size the takeaway is clear. Speed matters thankfully. There are free online tools that can help you identify your site's usability score and provide specific recommendations to your engineering team for how they can improve site speed. Let's take a look in this section, I am going to share with you three different tools you can use to understand your site speed and also ways that you can improve it. The first two tools are google tools and the third one is a hubspot tool. This first one page speed insights is probably the most popular one. So you can just google page speed insights and you'll be able to find it really easily. So I'm just going to type in my website and click on analyze and while that runs, I'm going to show you the ...
second tool which is also a google tool very similar to page speed insights but much more focused on mobile. So again, I'm going to type in my website, hit enter and let this run back to page speed insights. It looks like I have a huge room for opportunity. My site is not running very quickly. One of the great things about this tool is that you can scroll down and look at different opportunities that you can leverage to improve your site speed. Now some of these recommendations could be a little bit technical. I myself am not a super technical person but what I typically do is that I will literally copy, paste these recommendations or take a screenshot and share it with my web master or whoever is running your website. Um and who whoever is a little bit more technical to understand the things that need to be done to improve the speed of your site. So all really great information. Um this tool audits your site to make sure that they're giving you recommendations that are specific to the areas for improvement for your website, The mobile tool I like even better this one it looks like it's still running. Looks like I also have a huge room for improvement in terms of my mobile speed. One of the coolest things about this tool is that in addition to recommendations for what you need, what you could do to improve the your site speed here, you can click and it generates a report for you. So if you were to want to share with your web master or someone who's running a website, this report is very a very great summary of how of the things that you can do to improve the speed of your site. Um But also if you scroll down here um to this link then you'll get a complete full report of all the different recommendations. I'm not going to run through the report from my sight right now but I highly recommend that you take a look at this report for yours, it's really eliminating and really interesting and something that once more you can share with whoever is running your site. If you're not running the site yourself. And then finally hubspot has a really robust tool. They measure website speed and other things as well. So I'm just gonna go in here enter my site. This is by the way, also a lead generator for them. So just give it a second and so you can see here on the left that they write my site an overall score of 66 which honestly there's room for improvement there and they take a look at four different categories performance, S C. O. Mobile and security. And if you click on performance it'll show it again the same thing as what google does. It shows you the different things that you can do to improve your your site. So it looks like my page size is light and fast but I have a huge room for improvement in terms of page requests and page speed. So these are the different things that I could potentially work on and the one that I fail the worst at it seems like is modified javascript. So something that again I can share with my development development team or my web master to say let's let's work on fixing this to ensure that we improve the performance of the site. Um This tool also looks at sc Oh, it looks at mobile and then it also looks at the security of your site. So these are the three tools that I would recommend if you want to understand the speed at which your site is running and then also get some really great recommendations on how to improve it. Take some time to find your sights grade using the google or hubspot tools, aren't they fun? Now let's move on to our third and final tactic to remove friction from your funnel, making it more accessible.
