Ok, so the next page I want to create is the table of contents, so because I am thinking ahead a little bit and I know that I when we published this digital digitally to the web I'm gonna have it double sided and I'll show you that, but the first thing I need to do is create a page that's filled with nothing but a pattern so that it's so that it's a flip page and that'll make sense in a second but I'm going to use this pattern and this pattern um and I'm gonna go ahead and grab the fonts that I'm using and also my color palette I'll copy about it were first that's a good thing to just keep on this document as I'm working anyways, so I'm going to fill this the square with this first pattern right here and the easiest way to do that is to select the phil um I use the eyedropper tool and the keyboard took up for that is I so that way when I click on this, it'll replicate the pattern exactly now that's way too small for what I want so I'm going to increase the scale of just the pattern and...
so in order to do that with its selected I can right click come to transform and select scale that brings up the scale dialog box and here I want to check off trains from transform objects so the only thing I'm transforming our the patterns within it and I also want to hit preview so right now, it's a little smaller, but if I take this percentage up to, like, four hundred percent it's going tio, increase the scale of that pattern significantly. The other thing you can do is just use the scroll on your mouths to scroll up or down to really get that exactly how you want. So I'm good with something roughly around four hundred, and I'll select, ok, so ah that's going to be one flip page and then the other the opposite page? I mean half filled with the same pattern, so I'll select it used the eyedropper tool to feel that ah, and then this is where I want to add a kind of a box to add my table of contents, so I'll grab the rectangle tool and just start to draw a box here, and it has it's filled with same pattern right now, but I want to fill it with this little tonal pattern, so I'll use the eyedropper tool to grab that one, and I need to do the same thing by increasing the scale, so I'll come down to transform and scale, and then I think I do want something like four hundred percent. Okay, I'll select ok, um the easiest way to make sure that this is all in line is to select those two and use the aligned tools. Um I'll take a minute to discuss my art board set up with you if yours looks different, I have set mine up tow where I have my most used tools over here on this right side bar tool so that's layers pathfinder our boards a line, an image trace if those air not there for you, you can find them under window and all you need to do is make sure there's a check park checkmark, buyem and then you'll have access to him so you can build up your art board any way you like tio work best. So with those two selected, I'll come over to the align panel you can either choose to align things by selection or align them to the art board, so I'll go back and forth between these depending on the application, but I want these aligned to the art board I don't want them centered, so I'm going to use the vertical line center. Okay, so the next thing I want to do is start building in the text for this, and I think I'll add a banner here that says table of contents, so I'll grab the rectangle tool and start to build in a the beginning of a banner and it of course is filled with the same pattern that I last used but I think I'm going to fill it with this kind of pink color saw grab eyedropper tool and select that um and then you know how you make kind of a pennant banner with a little not right here a couple of ways to do that but maybe one of the easiest is to come over the pen tool and select the ad anchor point that allows you to come in and literally at anchor points to the shapes that you're working with so if I click right there I've added one I can then come in and select that anchor point with the white arrow tool so it's right here the black era tool moves entire shapes and the white arrow tool gives you access to individual anchor points so with the white arrow tool I'll come in and grab the single ah shape and because I have smart guides on it automatically a lines to the center d c that green bar ah and I can just pull it in right there and make a little notched banner you're smart guides are I believe under view see I have a check by smart guides that helps me a line things that just pops anchor points to what they think I'm going for and they're usually right so I like to keep that on um next I'm just going to title this table of contents so I grabbed the text tool by hitting key on my keyboard and type table of it's now I have already brought over the fought that I use for this it's called champagne and limousines and so I didn't name it so if you grab the eyedropper tool I'll just hit hit the m the font that I wanted to use and bring it right down here I need to increase its scale so I can just use the scale tool that's s on my keyboard hold the shift key down and bring that larger and it might need to it might need to be like that big which means I need to increase the size of my banner yes so if I do that I could grab the white arrow tool and come in and just select these two points and move those over back to the left so I've increased the size now I could have typed this all out today but instead I've already done this so I've already have my chapters um typed out so it's pretty straightforward I'm just going to grab on and copy him over to this page so this let me do that we do that I'm gonna group them together so this page is designed for my full portfolio so this gives you a great a great look at what my for my full portfolio has it has about thirty two single pages or seventeen double sided pages and I include several pattern collections I'm going to show you how I do one today because they're all set up the same way and then we're going to design a couple of these other pages as well. So the other thing that like there's a little dead space over here so the other thing that um mike thank you is to just put a boner here that says something like thanks for viewing or something like that so I can just steal this banner right here and make a duplicate of it by holding down the option keith and then I wanted to flip around the other direction so it's actually symmetrical from top to bottom so I could use the rotate tool but I'm going to use the reflect tool um which is in your panel but also the keyboard shortcut for that is oh and that's really easy to remember because oh is perfectly reflected from all directions so that puts it automatically puts your the point to where you're going to be reflecting around in the centre you could move that anywhere you want if I put it over here I can, you know, reflect around that point center usually works really well, but it depends on the application so I have it in the center and I'm just going to start dragging this over kind of an arc over to the other side, and if I hold down the shift key it's going to ensure that it stays perfectly horizontal, I'll hide my edges here, and I just don't need it to be that quite that big. So I'm going to scale it down, and then I can type something on it. I think I'll say thank you for viewing, or maybe thanks for viewing. What do you think, um and I, instead of using this champagne and limousines, I'm going to use baskerville and italics, which is my other thought that I'm using for this document. Baskerville. So I haven't selected over here, you can't see it, but with the eyedropper tool, I'll just grab baskerville, and that has made it look like that. So I think that page is ready to go.
