How to Stack & Bind Your Portfolio

Okay, so we're ready to stack and and officially bind so the next thing you need to do is take the interior pages of your portfolio that you've had printed and are all scored and you make sure they're in order and the none of them are upside down. So this is this is a full portfolio for me several collections full, okay, they're all there they're all in order um so you can kind of straighten out your even though you scored it your pages are going to want to bend you can kind of been them the opposite direction though just so the delays really flat for this next part because, um we need to be able to clamp it. So what I want to do is lay this down um pretty much right on top of the back piece of paper that I've I've put down on the back but with kind of unequal border and we get to use a power tool thiss part so I'm gonna bring this portfolio over I have to clamp this to the edge of the table to wear hangs off so that I don't drill through the table so that's what I'm doing and I like t...

he top on and just make sure those air perfectly in line so this is where my spring clam comes in and you can use to, um or just one in the middle but you want to clamp it down really nice and tight so that nothing is moving around. And now you need to mark where you want your screw posts. This is totally up to you. Um, yeah, I have a pencil, but I generally it just depends on the size of your book, but I go two inches in and center it along the spine. So I use this ruler for that. I go roughly two inches in and centered and just put a little dot where you want your screw post to go. And then we're going to drill a hole all the way through the fabric, the book board and the pages. So cross your fingers, okay? It works really well all the way through. Ok, good. I didn't drill through the table. Now all you do is insert your screw posts. I have somewhere right here. S o these I said our seven eighths of an inch, they're actually a little too big for mine. Um, for my for my pages, just barely. You probably won't notice, but the way they work is that you put the long edge in first. And I do this whole part while I'm still, um clamped so that nothing moves around on me. It's a little trial and error if you're at home just make sure you have a couple of different drill bits ok, so I got that one and I just need to go back through this one really quick and what size are those drill bits funny well that's a good question the various sizes until you find the one that works doesn't say I think it says thirteen ah but it's been trial and error with me and my house I have a spare piece of book board but don't depend on how how thick your book is and how you want to look right so just try much different gear scruple star yeah, exactly but it would be too small at first and beats you big yeah that's right? Because you can always take away but can add that's, right? Okay, so I screwed in the back and you can tell they're a little too long from this particular book because my pages aren't that thinks but it it really doesn't matter um too much it doesn't make it walk clear anything um and it's a little tight still because of that fold but it will soon lay flat and let you turn all your pages we made a book yeah, they come in longer linz yes in case when you add pay absolutely they come in longer lengths they come in various colors you could probably get wild with colors and you could also tie right there. But, yes, they come in longer length. So that is our book that we made. Yeah, they're fun. And you can tell to switch or at a page. All you do is unscrew and insert it, redo the whole just on the one page and then go back. Okay, so I'm summary. Um, this is what we covered today. Why? Having a portfolio is important. So you all you all feel like you have to have one now. And what? Who needs one? Why, we need one. What should be included? Of course, we discovered how to find it. We also discussed how to print and design it. And then, of course, how to start showing your work today. So, um, I just want to end by encouraging you to make your book a true reflection of yourself and your work and where you want your work to take you and being able to hand this to somebody and let them hold your brand in their hands is going to be so impactful and really take your career into a really fun and exciting direction. So you know that this is my web site and that's where you can find me I'm always around on social media and on my block and through the roofs tribe and so I hope that we can all continue to connect there and if you make a book and you share images please use hashtag de ia y portfolio um so that we categorize our images and we call see each other's work okay wonderful or any final questions from from you ladies and here I've seen taking a lot of notes that all sinking in you're here to go and buy some books right? Great all right, well we're ready to wrap things up any final words from you bonnie that's all I'm just really grateful to be back and I had so much fun teaching this course and I cannot wait to see where everybody's work takes them I think this really fun part of sharing your work so have fun I can't wait to see what you do thank you thank you so much bonnie and before we head out I want to read a few comments that came in before we wrap things up people really enjoy this this final segment people falling along watching and we had ampersand tweet who was joining us all day said loving this course has been so great to see it come together in the spinal segment shea says getting some great tips in this course and then a memory in this in the final segment here is that I absolutely love this course. I love when bonnie's teaching something I always learned so much, and I leave the course inspired. Bonnie could teach a class on drinking water, and I could probably take it and leave inspired. So I think that's a great way to end it, bonnie, and I'm gonna come up here and wrap things up with you on stage. Yeah, I think, as you could tell from all these fantastic comments, people really enjoy what we were doing here. You've inspired everybody out there, so thank you so much. But for right now, that is a wrap, thank you so much for watching.

I thought this class was engaging and informative. Bonnie Christine has such a natural way of presenting the information and never seems to lose her concentration. I really wanted to learn more about how to put together a professional but handmade portfolio and that is what you get. Thanks for the great class!
