What is Exponential Living?
- [Sheri] Exponential living. Because remember, I had a good life. I had a great career. But something was missing. Something was missing. So I realized it wasn't about just people that are broken needing something and it definitely wasn't about these people that had these appearingly great lives and they're okay. What connected all of us is that we had these really good lives, but they weren't great. And so I had this term "exponential living." Exponential living. And I was like that's it, and I started this journey and I went to...had my agents and my book consultants and they were like, "Yeah, but you got to change the name. You can't say exponential living because nobody knows what exponential means. Nobody can say it. Exponential. And nobody can spell it. So you have to change it." But here's the thing guys, I couldn't explain why, but I knew that was it. So I was like, "Okay, well, they're wise and I respect them." I love my agents, I love their wisdom. I said, "Okay, let me go f...
igure this out. Let me go find a better name." So I hired this book consultant and he was one of the best. And he came back to me and he said, "You know what? In all the years that I've worked with people, this has never happened." He was like, "I did the work. I'm sending you my notes. I've come up with some titles, but here's the thing. Your title is absolutely wrong in every capacity. "Exponential Living: Stop Spending 100% of Your Time on 10% of Who You Are" is wrong in every capacity, but I can't come up with anything better." He's like, "I can't come up with anything better." So I made the decision that I need to figure out how do I explain to people that this is what it is. And so I started with the definition. Let's just start. What is the definition of exponential? And the definition is "becoming more and more rapid." That's one of the definitions. Another definition is "rising or expanding at a steady and rapid rate." That's another definition. Another is "a positive constant." Now I want you to hold on to that word "constant." "Constant raised to a power." A constant raised to a power. And one of the last is "explosive growth." Explosive growth. Becoming more and more rapid, rising and expanding at a steady and rapid rate, a positive constant raised to a power, and explosive growth. This is exactly what exponential living is. When we commit to exponential living, we experience rapid and explosive transformation in our personal and professional lives. When we stay constant, when we stay committed to pursuing the peace. Because what happens is we get to that place where we start feeling good and then what do we do? Go back to our habits. And we go back to our habits and then we start feeling, "Oh, shoot. I forgot I'm supposed to be pursuing peace." And we start again and then what happens? We have a little more and then we go back to our habits. We have to stay constant. Remember guys, I'm here to shift your paradigm. When you leave today, when you guys tune out and go to something else today, I want you to have a whole new way of being. A whole new way of being, a whole new way of seeing, a whole new way of thinking. So exponential living. Exponential living, really when we dive into it, it really allows us to transform our lives every day, personally and professionally. So it's going to create that integration that you're talking about. Integration. That's why balance is not the answer. The answer is integration. It's how we really take our lives, every aspect of who we are, and we create this beautiful tapestry, not this thing where we're trying to balance work, fun, kids against a Jenga puzzle. Everybody know Jenga? If you move one piece, everything falls apart? That's what happens. But when we look at our lives, all of it, as one thing, this tapestry, this woven together beautiful, beautiful tapestry, then we don't need balance. We don't need balance because we understand how they all integrate together. My daughter is in Atlanta, Georgia. If something happens with her, I can't run and go pick her up from school. I can't do that. But what I can do is this morning, I could wake up three hours early and get on the phone and talk with her before school. That's integration. And then I don't feel guilty that I'm out here, right? How many have the parent guilt? Anybody else have the...? Yeah, you're like "Oh, my God. I could talk about that," right? So exponential living is that rapid, constant focus on being, not just doing, on being who we are so that we can be empowered in everything that we do. So my definition I came up with after years and years of trying to answer the question, "What is exponential living?" Exponential living, as broad and as deep and as vast as it is for everyone who's ever heard it, everyone who will ever experienced it, it boils down to three simple things: pursuing peace, choosing clarity, and living courageously. Pursuing peace, choosing clarity, and living courageously. Exponential living. But here's the key that I don't want anyone to miss. What's the word that I didn't say? When I said exponential living, I said pursuing peace, I said choosing clarity, and I said living courageously. What's the word I did not say? What's the word on the screen I did not say? Say it again. - [Woman] Lifestyle. - Say it one more time. - Lifestyle. - One more time. - Lifestyle. - Yes. It is a lifestyle. It is not a destination. I'm going to say that a few times throughout today. It is a lifestyle. That's why I can't just come up here and give you tools. I want you to have this entirely different lifestyle. Exponential living is a lifestyle of pursuing peace, choosing clarity, and living courageously. But here's what I want to make sure we all understand. Exponential living is not going against or changing or stopping achieving greatness, going after your goals, trying to be a billionaire, trying to have 10 businesses, trying to raise a family of 20. Okay, nobody wants to do that. Trying to raise a family of five, right? It doesn't take it... Peace, clarity, and courage doesn't take those pursuits away. It empowers us to actually live a full life with those pursuits. See, all we're doing is reversing. What we normally do is we're going after the job, after the career, after the family, after those things, thinking that it will give us peace. But what peace, clarity, and courage does is it gives us the foundation to actually go after those things in the fullness of who we are. Does that make sense? Make sense. What are your thoughts so far on that, on exponential living? Tell me your name please. - [Daniel] My name is Daniel. - Hi, Daniel. - Hi. Thanks for having us today. My thoughts on that are that I think it boils down to a paradigm shift that you're talking about, right? And once we're able to see that paradigm shift, it maybe is a little bit easier to understand and try and align ourselves with these three philosophies. That makes sense. - Yes, yes. Anyone... Yes, right here. The microphone is right there. - [Anghelis] Because I practice Buddhism, it reminds me of some other words like intention for clarity, equanimity for peace, and courageously is just being really... What's the word? Honest with your heart, with people. - You want to come up here? You can finish for me. You've hit eight of my points. So thank you. Yes, I love it. Yes. - And it's active and there's no end. It's like many, many situations that's going to challenge that. So, yeah. - Yes. It really is. Could I show you all she's teaching my class? Look, bam. Tell me your name. - Anghelis. - Anghelis. - Yes. - And you know what? I was saying it, Anghelis, when I was learning about you, so thank you for that, Anghelis. - Yes. - Perfect. - So literally, it's what you said, it's a mindset. It's a mindset. It's not a destination because it's ever-evolving. Who I am today is not who I was two weeks ago and who I won't be three months from now. It is ever-evolving. And what you said is so critical. When I did my book proposal and I...one of the publishers, who ended up actually being my publisher, Penguin Random House, the two editors from two different imprints who wanted my book, one was atheist, one was Jewish, and they both wanted it. And their reason, and the woman I'll never forget, I love her to this day for this, who is an atheist, she said, "The reason your words are so powerful is because they transcend every belief other than love, regardless of your faith, regardless of what you practice, regardless of your social-economic situation, regardless of your nationality, regardless of where you are in the world." Thank you for those who are outside of the U.S. for tuning in. Regardless of any of those things, peace, clarity, and courage transcends all of that. So that's why it resonates with however your belief is or whatever your viewpoint is. Whatever that paradigm is, why it has to shift, and why it's able to cut through and shift is because it's not rooted in anything other than the truth and the honesty of what we all truly desire regardless of our backgrounds, is peace, clarity, and courage. And going on that journey, what I really discovered is no matter how difficult or challenging life is, no matter what you do, whether you are creating software or whether you are just spending time with your children, these three things, as simple as they are, are the only three things that we really need to focus on, because everything else, we're able to work through. The peace, the clarity, and the courage. So the billion-dollar question then became for me, not million, billion, how? How? How do we experience a lifestyle of exponential living? How do we experience a lifestyle of exponential living?

This class is one of the BEST classes that I've taken. I'm really excited about all of the great information that I am leaving with. Sheri's approach to teaching is refreshing. She is an engaging speaker who is passionate about her topic. She is very unselfish about sharing value gained from her years of experience and insight gained from working in the music industry. It wasn't just a list of actions to follow, so it was truly enriching. Anyone who is considering this class should know that it's a great investment of their time and money.
