Class Introduction
we're doing Final cut. Pro 10. Um, this is Thea, the child of, I guess, a final cut pro we've heard about for years. And it's an amazing application. It's very intuitive. Once you get over that little hump on, we're gonna walk through that over the next 10 lessons and it will be great. So let's go ahead and take a look at what we're going to be covering and what we're going to get out of the class. So the first thing is a better understanding of the world of video. I fully realize that many of the people here, many of the people watching on the Internet, maybe brand new to video you might be photographers or a switching to video. You might just be somebody who needs to do video for your job or you want a log, and you need to get your head wrapped around some of this jargon. So we're gonna actually answer some of those questions. And those are also some of the questions that I'm hoping to get from our audience, as well as from the folks watching on the Internet. If something is, ah, you...
know, you're confused about something in reference to just the general idea of video. And some of those things are this jargon. We have formats and frame rates and Codex and, you know, it's a whole new language. So those are the kind of things that you know, I'm hoping to explain. And I'm hoping that your last questions if you don't understand something and if I do use jargon as I'm teaching, please stop, raise your hand and say, you know, what does that word mean? Like Kodak, um, they used to make film and like, No, that's Kodak. And now they just make other products. The name Kodak on it. So anyways, we're gonna be talking about that. We're going to look a little bit about the aesthetic of editing when we're going through the application as I teach you different tools. All also comment on why you would probably make the added at this point to make it a better edit. Okay, so we'll talk a little bit about the aesthetics. And after you take the class and see how you'll cut cut things together, you will ultimately become a better videographer because you will be yelling at yourself the first time you cut a show saying, Why did I do that? Why did I shoot it that way? Who was this crazy first owes me. So you actually become a better videographer as you edit. And then you end up being able to edit this show that you want. So what we got out of this class? Most importantly, you will learn how to add it in final Cut Pro. 10. So who was class for those? For a lot of people's for a variety of people. New kid on the block you have never edited before. If you know nothing about editing, that's okay. This class is for you because we're going to start at the very beginning and teach you the basics. We're gonna look at editing, importing. We're gonna look at putting on filters and effects. The whole nine yards all the way through exporting are sharing your final video. Whether it's to a file into the web, Maybe you're self taught. You've already played with the program a little bit. He opened it up. You did a couple things got really confused and scared. You close the program. You said I'll get back to this. And now It's been a year. Okay, old soul, maybe. Use previous versions of Final Cut. Maybe you came from Final Cut seven. Okay, Our final cut six. And it's a big transition. Or perhaps you even tried an earlier version of Final Cut 10 and has changed a lot. It's now five years mature, and it's an amazing program. It's it's quite different than it was the day it was released. Movers and shakers. You know, you've moved from another non linear editing system. Perhaps you were using, say, premier or I movie are avid and you want to get your head wrapped around how you can edit with this tool. Look at that. N L E non leaner editor. You've learned a new piece of jargon. Okay, Now you can be popular parties. They'll put you in the other room because you're such a nerd about video, and then those in the know you're pretty. You played with it, you're comfortable with it. But there's some things you know that I'm missing from your repertoire of knowledge, and there's gonna be a lot of keyboard shortcuts and some tricks and techniques that you may not know. So even if you know the application. Hopefully, you will learn to get deeper into the application. So what we're gonna do in our two weeks, Week One we're gonna start today, We're gonna explore Final Cut Pro. We're gonna look at the interface and we're gonna build a rough cut. In the next lesson. We're going to refine that rough cut and learn some advanced editing techniques. Then once you have editing under your belt, you'll do the first thing you would normally do when you add it. And that's how to set up a project and import video. A very important part of working with Monica 10 but not the most exciting thing because everybody wants toe dig in and start editing. So if you've purchased the class, that will be download files and as a matter of fact, those will already be imported so you could just start editing right off the block. Okay, so that's what we're gonna dio. And then we're gonna look at how you can make better audio work with audio fix audio problems, whether it's audio that's too loud or too soft or there's too much noise, will look at working with photos and the unique challenges of dealing with very large photos are very small photos. And also, if you want to animate those if you want to, that Ken Burns effect and pan through an image that's great for the photographers out there that have all these images. Now they want to do some sort of a show. Real are a sizzle reel with their with their still images in the second half. In the second week, we're gonna look at filters in transitions, how to smooth out. You show how to give your show a look and a feel. You know, filters can be anything from color, correcting to style izing something. And then we're gonna look at creating titles and using generators. The nice thing about Final Cut 10 is a lot of the things you need are pretty much Everything you need is built into the application. So if you want to make a lower third or a title, you don't have to step outside to another application. There are already tools inside that you can use, and the same thing goes with generators. What a generator is is. Maybe you need a background. Why I have to go out to a stock library where you can generate from within the actual program. And then we're gonna look at some more advanced techniques such as color correction, how to fix problematic video, that maybe you shot with the wrong color temperature, or you want to give it a boost. And maybe you need to color match to scenes to each other. Speed changes we all like to very vary the speed slow things down to make a dramatic or speed things up to make it exciting, we'll look at that. Well, look, it's stabilising shaky videos and great tools within the application and then also how to work with ah green screen. If you want key something out and put somebody over a different background that you shot on a green background, we're gonna look at how you could do that very easily in Final Cut. And one of my favorite areas is multi cam editing, and the beautiful thing about final cut is if you shot a scene with multiple cameras. It's really easy to take those cameras and combine them into a single clip that you can switch between live and you can tweak, so you now have the ability to shoot multiple cameras and easily take them and switch between them. And then, of course, unless you deliver your show and confine allies and share it, it doesn't exist. So we're gonna finish off. The boot camp was showing you how you can do the final tweaks on your show, how you can export it and also how you can clean house and archive it. So if you need to go back in, it will be ready for you. Now I do want to point out we have a Facebook group. This is a combined group. Go to Facebook. It's obvious Shapiro Creative Live, and you'll asked to join that group and will accept you, and it's actually a mix of two courses. Uh, I also have done a premiere pro boot camp, so I use both applications. I actually use them interchangeably, so you go ahead and go onto Facebook. Join that group. The beautiful thing about the group is it provides the opportunity to interact with other students that have taken this course to pose questions. Historically, one person, they pose a question and then other students. We have a pretty large population in there have answered them. And I will also be part of the group to answer them some of those questions. So I really think it's advantageous for you if you're watching this, to join the group and go ahead and be part an active member of the group. So it's time to talk. Now. I'm not gonna go through all of these questions because I really want to jump into the application. But I'm curious, and I'm gonna ask the people here and also the people watching out on the Internet. Um, why are you here? Why? You interested in final Cut Pro? 10. And I'm just going to throw it out to the audience here. We'll see if any questions come in. If you have a question, please wait for the microphone. Um, so anybody tell me why did Why did you come to the class? Why are you here? Uhm, I'm pretty new to video and video editing, so I wanted to get a head start, and, um sometimes I watch online, but it's very different experiencing it live and being able to interact. So I think this. So tell me, what kind of videos do you need to make. Are you hoping to make, um, they're gonna be real estate related videos, Neighborhood related videos, Um, so different parts of Seattle. So you'll be able to go through a house and cut something together for an individual. Are even do neighborhoods of people can. Then, you know, see what it would be like to move into a house in that neighborhood. Precisely. So you're gonna just get so much more business because you're learning this. That's to go. That's the go. That's you know, it's always good to have, ah, reason and motivation. Anybody else have Ah, wanna hop in and tell me why you came here or what? You're hoping to get high? Um, I'm here because I want to add video to my weapon. Poire. I am a former educator, turned for our photographer as a second career, and that's what I want to do. My clients are asking for video, and this class is going to be able to help me do that. That's why I'm here. I should win an IPhone. I shoot with a black magic camera and I shoot with whatever I could get my hands one. But I love my IPhone and videos. I'd like to produce our food related lifestyle related. So those in terms of like to do excellent excellent that we have a variety of things already here. And as a matter of fact, you know, I'm glad that you mentioned the IPhone because the point is the cameras we have access to these days are brilliant. The IPhone is an amazing camera, and it's the camera that is always with you. It can shoot ultra high definition four K video. The new you know, IPhone seven. Does this high dynamic range Lots more jargon. Okay, HDR high dynamic range. Now you're gonna be really popular at that party. I want to jump to another question, which is a big thing, which is what is your biggest fear when it comes to editing. Why are you scared? Are you scared? And what concerns you about final cut pro 10 that you're hoping to have a leaved believed relieved, fixed, resolved, resolved. We'll go with that. I'll make upwards is a go along. We'll add them to the dictionary via Wikipedia. So anybody want to hop in and say what? Their biggest concern is. What the biggest fear is I think for me it's knowing what you want to produce, what you want to get. The end result and the final cut Pro is the kind of I say a barrier, but it's not really a barrier. It's the tool to get you what you have in your mind, the vision of what you're trying to produce. And so it's kind of like a musical instrument. You know, the music you want to play, but you don't know how to finger that in the piano or guitar. Whatever. And so learning this will give me the tools to be able to recognize you realize that you make a boards to make it up together. Love her addiction. No, that's great. That's great, because that's exactly what final cut Pro 10 is. And that was the thinking behind it when they redesigned this editing system that was completely different than anything that had been out there before. And the whole point behind it is they wanted to take away the confusion and the task of the added and let you be creative. So once you get over that initial hump of okay, where things are how this works, it becomes just very obvious how you would edit. I mean, as a matter of fact, for those who have never edited before, it's easy, even easier, to pick up Final cut Pro than those who may have used a traditional nonlinear editor such as Premier are earlier versions of Final Cut. And that's really the mission behind that was behind the thinking here, the editing team. They wanted something that you don't have to worry about the interface and what not. You just did stuff naturally, and you got to show that you want, so that's great. So by a lesson 10 I'm gonna ask you that question again and see if we have realized your dream in mind at the same time.

Wonderful. This is the first time I've seen any of Abba's classes, and he's a great teacher. I've been watching the live sessions for the past few days and have picked up a ton of great tips that will indeed speed up my workflow in FCPX. He's a great teacher, and does a wonderful job of setting people at ease, ie. where he says things like, 'there's no trick questions', and times where he will click on something wrong, then he'll go back and show his mistake (pointing out his minor mistakes are actually a beneficial lesson). In all, wonderful wonderful wonderful. Thank you!

Fantastic teacher. I enjoyed every video, super worth it. I've been reluctant to jump into FCP X since it got upgraded from FCP. Now I feel confident to work with it again. Seems pretty self explanatory, but I am glad I watched the course. Abba covers pretty much everything you need to know. I also loved his personality, made me want to learn more each day.
Alan Pole
Absolutely brilliant. Abba gets to the point, is clear, organized and articulate, and lays it all out in a manner that quickly brings your confidence level from zero to hero. Highly recommend this to any photographer who wants to blog, build ads, or include video in their offering. I feel like an amazing new world has been provided to me. Thank you!
