Filters and Transitions Introduction
let's move to some of the more finishing things we wanted to things that we might want to style eyes or to smooth out our show. So we're going to be working with filters and transitions, and it's pretty basic. It's We're gonna learn how to apply and modify filters and apply and modify transitions and animate them over time. So before I I dig in. So tell me what, uh what's the purpose of a transition? I might flip flop this thing. I will do transitions first just to keep you on your toes. What the transition Have we done any yet? Yes, all but we have its called a cut. Yes. So a cut is your primary transition. But then what are some other ones you see to get from here to there? A to B fade dissolves fate. Fate at the end of a show fade up at the beginning. A dissolved to smooth out a cut wipes. I mean, ideally, you don't want to have too many transitions unless the program calls for it. Because there was always the challenge that, um, just can't put a transition on. You have to put a dif...
ferent time. How many times have you been to a restaurant where they made the Rome menu and they used every single typeface, every thought that they could. And you're like, I just want to order a sandwich. Well, you can have the same challenges with any non linear tools, so there's a lot to choose from. There's a lot of great third party plug ins that even give you more choices for transitions and more choices for filters. And so we talked about what a transition is. Um, why would we use filters? Color temperature? That's a That's a photographer. Asking that question was like we were going. I don't know what color temperature is has a temperature, but that's a different color, you know, um, color temperatures. So light is different. Color temperatures daylights, actually blue, and you'll hear that it's 5000 or 5600 degrees and then in inside lights, maybe more golden and you'll hear that it's 3200 degrees, so we don't see that generally, because our eyes automatically white balance. I look at this white piece of paper over here are this white board over here, and it looks like, um, but if I go outside. It might be blower, but my says that's white. Okay, Our cameras do that, but sometimes they mess up. So sometimes you have to correct it, and you'll do use a filter to wipe outs. What other things might you use? Enhance the image, improve the image you might be fixing a problem. This filters to fix problems. Maybe you need to brighten it up or it's too bright. Maybe you want to style eyes it. You don't want to give it a cool, like retro fifties look or you want to make it look like instagram. No, please don't do that. Um, but there are definitely. That's what filters can be used for. Make something black and white a lot of different ways. You can work with filters.

Wonderful. This is the first time I've seen any of Abba's classes, and he's a great teacher. I've been watching the live sessions for the past few days and have picked up a ton of great tips that will indeed speed up my workflow in FCPX. He's a great teacher, and does a wonderful job of setting people at ease, ie. where he says things like, 'there's no trick questions', and times where he will click on something wrong, then he'll go back and show his mistake (pointing out his minor mistakes are actually a beneficial lesson). In all, wonderful wonderful wonderful. Thank you!

Fantastic teacher. I enjoyed every video, super worth it. I've been reluctant to jump into FCP X since it got upgraded from FCP. Now I feel confident to work with it again. Seems pretty self explanatory, but I am glad I watched the course. Abba covers pretty much everything you need to know. I also loved his personality, made me want to learn more each day.

Absolutely brilliant. Abba gets to the point, is clear, organized and articulate, and lays it all out in a manner that quickly brings your confidence level from zero to hero. Highly recommend this to any photographer who wants to blog, build ads, or include video in their offering. I feel like an amazing new world has been provided to me. Thank you!
