Adding the Quote with Decoupage

So I'm going to go through and pick out the quote that I'm going to add tio the other side of the panel here and the's quotes to me because when I was doing this was really about dreaming and in my word for the year I don't know how many of you guys do this but I'm a one little word person um I guess I should say trademark alley edwards or something here but that's her thing is one little word and I pick a word every year the kind of shapes my year and so this year was dream and I actually took them and creative and have a mantra of like I'm living my dreams in twenty fifteen that's really what I want to d'oh and so for me this was all about capturing that idea of dreams and just that dreamy feel and so a lot of the quotes are really about um finding your dream living your dream pursuing your dream things like that and so it was really inspirational to me and I know yesterday we talked a little bit about this but I am a quote junkie I collect them like other people collect books or kni...

ckknacks and thinks like that I collect quotes so these are just some of my favorites um and so you guys could just pick which one you want to use for your project so I'm gonna pick one now and use it so what? Um I'm gonna grab my scissors and I'm just going to cut out each word you're really hearing you can do each letter individually I'm just not that I'm just not that adventurous, so don't do that and get them ready to dekel polish now I printed this on um a laser jet printer I have sent it to you like a coffee place and had them printed you can do it at home on your inkjet printer but just know that if you do it on an ink jet when you go to dekel posit some of that bank may run in smear a little bit so you just I want to be aware of that as you're doing it so that you're not just appointed if you have a little bit of a black smear across across there it's going to kind of go out and lay them in order because if I don't do that then I will put them on in the wrong order and have to redo the whole thing I'm saying that from experience and I think that's one of the things with mixed media people get really scared about it, they don't want to mess it up and there is on ly happy accidents in my world so and you can fix anything you can put some more paper down and start over it's nothing to fret about, ok, all of these and these don't even have to be perfect if you really like stuff straight I would use a paper trimmer or something like that but I like the organic nous of just having them not quite straight and perfect because if they're not going to go on straight perfect if I was going to do that I would decoupage them all on in one big chunk anyway so I kind of feeds the purpose of cutting them out if I'm just gonna put him right back on like a puzzle so all right you know last week that mean ok so all I'm going to do is take a little bit more of the deco posh and I'm going tio it here this down on the side of my piece get this out of the way here and this is basically dry now so easy to work right on top of it and because it's already got a layer on there it's got a nice s prime base you don't have to use nearly as much as you did the first time we dec apologized on here so I'm just gonna get my words on I can pick it up off the table and I just kind of adam on and see how I like it doing okay over there I see mold making happening see people getting ready to do quote so you need anything just let me know I was just so quietly focused and her quote, the only thing that you knew stuff you're usually use portrait pictures I have, I wouldn't really love is I get, um, it's a really weird thing to do, but people will sometimes put their old photos it like antique malls and stuff, and you'll find these gorgeous photos from like the late eighteen hundreds early nineteen hundreds I love using those for image transfers or for decca pushing I always copy them I never use like the original on something, but there's just they're so beautiful and it's just sad to see them sitting there, so I like to get them and give them new life and smart projects and things like that, so I do, but I'm very cautious of preserving them at some level and keeping the actual photos intact before I before I do it, but you, khun grab all sorts of fun imagery and do it that way. I have also taken imagery for these and used them to create stencils and then stenciled them on or things like that too. So there's lots of fun once you get started with this there's just so much that you can dio I also hand right on a lot of my pieces because I really I have a thing about using my own handwriting and having other people use their own handwriting because there's something really fun about preserving that in my mind and it's just a part of who people are in it shows a different side of people and I don't know that everybody always understands that they always say they hate their handwriting but people who know them go up that was a note that my mom wrote or that was a note that my grandma wrote and having that sometimes it's just a great reminder of of people in their personality so a big believer in not just cutting out quotes but handwriting them as well after back to the molding after you put the air dry clay into the mold how long do you need? I left it in there for about five minutes or so it was still really what? When I took it out on a good day I'll be about ten to fifteen um just so that I know that it's that the mould portion is really set um but since I snuck in finished pieces you guys can leave it as long as you want. Okay kind of up to you but it needs at least five minutes to take on that that shape. So if you're wanting to make some for later um I would give it at least five minutes to set before I tried to pull it out and then just kind of test it and like, lift a little corner of it kind of look at it, see if you think it's done or not before you so each the mold itself. Um, like I made this one of the owl, you have told that I let it sit about five minutes, but the clay the same amount just so that it started to take on that shape out, start to dry a little bit and stay in that shape enough that when you pull it out, it doesn't go right back to a kind of squishy ball. Thank you. Yeah, I always rushed stuff. I'm sure the directions if I read it, so let it sit for half an hour or something, but like, five minutes. It's good. We're moving on. I'm one of those people that companies hates because I buy products. And then I throw away the manual, and then I try to figure out on my own. But I've done that enough to know that five to ten minutes is, um works for me, so ok, so I'm gonna get this. This is all on. I'm gonna heat dry this next layer quick. Hopefully we'll give you guys a little time to do your quotes to you guys here, feel frieda mold away. I took a class once and it was where I actually did mold making for the very first time and then I end up like it was really funny was like took like three more classes right after that and they all did it but in that first class that was great and she had all these amazing like vintage pieces like those sitting out these grudges door knobs and just random you know, stuff keys and everything else is just like you guys could use up all your mold maker and I was like oh my god gosh, this is great and I literally every last drop of that mold maker and I went home with like this nice pile of molds because I was so it was so addicted yeah just like that like just addicted to it because once you start your like all this is great and my husband looked at me like why are you buying a random knocked like door knocker thing are you know what I'm like oh I'm gonna make a mold out of it it's going to be fantastic and what's really funny was um the girl who had helped teach that class recently posted like this pilot stuff basically that she has a she carries with her and I'm like I have a mold of that and that and that I told her that online like yet but take it everywhere it was like I know that I would know that door knocker and that door knob anywhere, which is like such a random odd thing to say to somebody, but I know those door knockers, but it's it's fun when you get started on it and some of them, especially when you find the vintage one, some of the imagery that they used in the medals and in the woods, in the hand carving and the craftsmanship that went into it, you don't want to do something to harm it. So for me, this is like a great way. It's, like the photos it's, a great way to preserve the original piece, but also be able to use it over and over again and do what I want to it. So if I want to paint it or the stress it or do anything to it, I can do that without worrying about damaging the actual original piece. But some of them are just I'll stand there and it's just amazing to see the craftsmanship that went into these pieces. You can tell I like old stuff a lot.

This class was wonderful. I enjoyed Stefenie's teaching style and that the entire project (except the paperclay pieces, which needed drying time) could be completed in just a day. She introduced many media that were new to me. I would never have accomplished so much in such a short time without her inspiring project and encouragement. I completed my first shadow box two days later. I will watch any class Stefenie teaches at CL!
