Flex Time - Vocals

Hi. In this video, we're going to be looking at flex time at the moment, we have flex pitch set up and what we need to do is actually swap over to flex time. So all we need to do is click on this drop down menu here and choose flex time. The automatic one actually comes up as polyphonic. So polyphonic is where you're playing more than one note at the same time as this is a vocal part. It's not polyphonic, it's monophonic. So we could choose monophonic mode or slicing. So slicing moves the note along as opposed to stretching it, which monophonic does. So I'm actually going to choose slicing. This can be useful for drums or vocals. So let's select that. Then we have a pop up box that says, do you want to suspend or flex pitch edits? So when we swap between flex pitch and flex time, it will suspend our pitches until we return back to flex pitch mode. So after we've adjusted the times, all we need to do is just remember to swap back to flex pitch mode and then it will return all the flex p...

itch edits that we did. So just hit. Ok. There's just one part of the song I want to. Correct. So she actually enter this a little bit early, which is fine. A lot of singers aren't going to sing completely perfect. Sometimes. That's great for the recording. But for this, it doesn't quite sound right. I want the vocals to enter on the beat. So let's just uns solo this and then I'll show you where, I mean, so it's where she actually sings. The first note. I want it to enter on this beat here. So I want it to enter on beat two. And just by looking at this, you can see it's not quite right. It's a little bit early. I just play this back now so you can hear I, so it's not that noticeable, fine, but I do think it could be tidied up. So all you need to do is just select the marker. You can create new markers by clicking on the audio. All I'm actually going to do now is just right. Click this marker here, delete flex marker and this one delete flex marker because we don't want to flex this very small area, but I want to flex this section here and then just drag the marker boom back to the beat here. And then when we play this back final, it's actually the third beat enters on. I'm just going to turn on the metronome finally now on Beat three vocal center it just tidies it up. If you're using vocals like this, I don't recommend flexing too much. It's a good idea just to tidy up, especially if there's anything that can be quickly fixed with flex time. And then if we switch back to flex pitch and we zoom in here you'll notice on the third beat, the vocals enter straight away. So it's adjusted the flex time and now it's kept the flex pitch. Now, let's hear this with the flex pitch and the flex time finally. So that's how we can quickly correct time issues by using flex time in logic pro.
