What is Project Life? & Q&A
We hear about that kind of stuff every day and we talked about what it means, but I do want to just explain some of you are like, ok, this is a lot of high level stuff and a lot of history in a lot of concept, but what is project life let's talk about what project like this I'm going to show you with this short video leave a legacy and that's why throughout history we document and passed down stories from generation to generation these days we capture a lot of life and we share it in digital fragments, but most of us don't actually document life tangibly like this for our family and friends and even ourselves to enjoy because we think doing this takes a lot of time and money and stress and the creative jeanne some of us don't think we have so our pictures just hang out online and in boxes. Well, that's why becky higgins created project life it's a back to basics approach to memory keeping it doesn't matter what phase of life you're in with project life you can create a designer scrapbo...
ok as easiest slipping photos into a photo album. All you need are the essentials and everything works together beautifully just jot down a notre too about the photos on the pre design cards and slip everything into the pockets and you can document your life without cutting or gluing a thing print your digital photos, get them out of boxes and jack down those moments you never want to forget even the most everyday moments because all the little stuff is the story of who we are and what we're all about it's our legacy cultivate a good life and record it start today at becky higgins dot com ok a little animated visual is just taking people an idea and short of what it is, what it's about what it means how it works and what we learned from that is that is quick and easy scrapbooking that's a simple way to explain what project like really is and I showed you an example of it but it is back to basics and like I said going back to when I was just starting talking with you guys it was really funny to me that creative live invited me to teach a three day course because I'm thinking but that was a minute twenty four seconds it's done it's explained everything everyone go home now and do this right everyone can figure this out but like I said there's so much more to talk about with scrap booking and general that well I think really helped infuse aa lot of excitement for all of us to know how to move on and how to carry on and stay motivated we're going to be talking about all of that in addition to getting organized and so forth so so this is that you slept your photos into the pockets and you're done and life the video said we are wired to leave a legacy we just are whether you're a scrapbook er or a photographer or not or none of that we are wired to leave a legacy that's just in our nature way want to leave our mark can we talk about the cavemen again? Can I go back to that do you know the markings that they left on the caves literally we are wired to leave a legacy we all have this innate desire to make a mark and to say I was here that's why we do this there's a comedian jim gaffigan if you're part of him who said I have more pictures of my kids and my dad even looked at me and she has a whole bit about this that I was like oh no we're going to go with this we take somebody pictures but we do we take a lot of pictures we have a lot of pictures we dio all of us right now I don't know who said this but a friend share this with me and it's always stuck with me the generation known for taking the most pictures that's us is going to be the generation with the least amount of photographs well so good for us taking a lot of pictures and what what are we doing with that? So this is not a guilt trip for me for you, for anyone watching this is something for us to think about and realize that as fun as it is to snap snap, snap, snap, snap cool! We could see it instantly we can share it social media great but photographs actual photographs that we can hold in their hands do we have him? What are we doing with them? Prints are important, technology is changing, technology will continue to change we're going to talk about technology I can't wait have a special guest tomorrow is going to talking a lot about tech and there's a lot of things that we need to understand that the most important thing for us to understand about tech is that it's constantly changing so that's not to overwhelm because that overwhelms me I'll be completely honest that's why I have a special guest coming because it overwhelms me but I know I know it's a scrapbook er as as a memory keeper as somebody who this stuff is important to me that I cannot rely on the technology teo just automatically save my efforts ok? So it's always going to be changing and we can keep up and do our best if you're a tech expert that's great that's a small percentage of everyone watching, but for most of us sitting here, we really need to get our pictures printed and not just printed and shove in an envelope or a door or a box like we saw in the video but we need to actually do something with them. Andi I don't I am not a doomsday mentality that's not me but really if you think about the possibility of one day technology just goes away I'm just saying that if something should happen and we just you know the plug is pulled and we are you know we don't have buzzing wires running our world what do we have tangible that we can sit and enjoy with our family? So with people taking so many pictures of you and I loaded with pictures and we're digging into all of this those of us in this room we understand you know why it's important, we at least have some experience with scrap booking, but why are most people not scrapbooking? And we go back to those reasons what we already talked about because it's you know, has this this connotation of being expensive and time consuming craft and you know it requires creativity and things like that but people who have stacks and stacks of pictures and boxes and in drawers why why don't they embark on this expensive it's overwhelming it's too much stuff it's messy? They don't know where to begin I'm not creative the's air the common reasons for why people don't scott book but is that it? Is that what it has to be a scrap booking this dripping glue and you know we're silly with our graphic here but like it does it really have to be this it doesn't project life works um it works for those who are trying it and keeping it simple or doing whatever they want to do with it but there's a reason why the system has just kind of taking its own pair of wings that I had never expected it works it's simple it it makes sense it's it creates a solution for people who do want to do something with their pictures and I want to emphasize that I don't view project life even is the creator of this this is not the end all be all think about the quilt so I was talking about and the pictures in the home and there's so many ways to do memory keeping might my area of expertise and memory keeping its simplicity I have to keep things simple in my life or it will not get done that is just a plain and simple truth and some people to stay away from scott booking in general think it's because this is not there they are they don't fit that mold of what a scott walker as nice day it's for anybody who has pictures it's for anybody of any stage of life no matter where you live I mean, our our our audience right now are live audience watching is around the world, my customers are around the world, scrap bookers are around the world and lots of different walks of life if the product is accessible to you and we're going to talk about that later than it is all over the place and accessible, bobby says. Bobby gel says as a busy wife and mother of four girls, I was becoming discouraged with my progress and documenting our everyday lives. When I heard a project life, I was beyond ecstatic. I have used it for the last year and have found so many amazing, unexpected blessings being derived from it. My family has really united and creating this airline project. I feel so much peace knowing that these memories are forever recorded and displayed as an important part of our home. Okay, so bobby joe is like many of us, a busy wife and mother, okay, this is someone else. Shane is a single girl in her mid twenties, and she said, I used to feel like I didn't have anything to scrap book about no children, no husband and I work from home, and then I learned about project life and she goes on, I won't read the whole email, but she goes on to explain how it works for her this's ron, I've met ron fantastic guy who says not so long ago I received a positive diagnosis for a life threatening illness and decided to spend time simplifying my life to preserve energy and spend time exercising self care and I have to mention talk about trying to hold it back when I met ron and was talking with him there was I mean it's really hard to not feel a little emotional when he shares his story at length part of that simplification has been too for the most part give up my scrapbooking project life means having something wonderful back in my life this has become a very emotional and exciting and thrilling thing for people who thought that they couldn't do it the process the actual act of snapping pictures and doing something with them is absolutely a reflection on what matters to us and it's it's very exciting to be a part of that and to and to be that person that whoever you are whatever walk of life you're doing it encourages you to pay more attention to be more aware of not only of surroundings but your blessings we are all struggling in this life we all have hurtful things that happen we all have trials that come upon us we have challenges that just rockets to our core we have a lot of stuff that's really hard and and we're really blessed also this is the life experience I don't want to get too theological but we have to remember that this is wife scrapbooking does matter and why it's important is that we are tremendously blessed and by doing something with your pictures you truly if you don't know yet you will find out you will truly become more aware of how blessed you are you will be more in tune with how tremendously um wonderful your life isthe and coming full circle around it actually helps you to realize what you need to do different in your life people who take pictures and look at them and reflect on them and do something with them can it can also have this experience of not just on my life is great, but when's the last time I did take my kid to the park, I've had that experience when's the last time my family went somewhere and it's something fun together it's been a while I'm seeing all these pictures that have to do with this this this this or whatever but have we really done something together as a family? That means, you know something tremendous to us, you know it just makes you more aware of your buses, but also full circle makes you more aware what you need to dio this is project life in a nutshell um we're just wrapping up the first segment we have so much to cover in the next eleven segments, but I wanted to just start that out by explaining a little history explaining why it means something to so many of us why people don't do it and why we do want to do it and we're going to spend a lot of time digging in and actually doing it we've got on electric chat room today thank you so much for everything has joined us all over the world becky you are just rocking it very non british expression but they are absolutely loving and we are going to take some comments but I think I'll go to our students because this seems to be a lot of emotion in the room I don't pick on anybody but we have seen a few little tears out of the corner of my eye but obviously this is really resonating I know you're really excited to be here scrapbooking is very much a passion anyone you want to share you know your comments on what beck has been telling us so far don't dive in one the simple and easy part of it because that's I think the struggle of that's all my life and most of us that's that's what appealed to me when I first heard about your system was like, oh, I can do this and they can make it manageable and yeah that's the key word I don't even know that I use that word at all thank you manageable manageable if we make anything in our life let's talk about something not scott looking related but stood about meal planning are, you know, make up regiment in the morning I don't care what we're talking about if we can make it manageable and break it down and simplify that process, there were more likely to wet do it we'll do it if it's manageable thank you for bringing that up next third thing is it's never too late to start now actually share my own story here I did start anew album I wouldn't not necessarily called for this crap, but when my son was born on by sort of documented that first year but then for whatever reason, you know things just stopped and I didn't keep it going but when he turned twenty one I found it and I really felt very sad that I have not kept it going. I have kept all the newspapers on the day he was born I kept the video of the day's news and all those things and he was so thrilled to have those yeah, I wish it's been continuous yeah, you can you can always start again well and I'm glad that you brought that up I wish I wish I really thought that's happening in a lot of people's minds I wish if I could have known this if I could have done this back when blah, blah, blah that's why we're that's why we're spending the night three days together there's no wishing there's let's break it down and talk about how you can actually do what you had hoped to have done that's really cool that you found that I know of the very place I found it because most almost everything I left behind when I moved to the u s and I was quite a prodigious scrapbooking keeping my own mementos I keep getting e mails from my mother saying will you come and get this rubbish? I have taken like all my son's stuff with me wherever I have lived in the world I do have all those precious things with me but my own life I sort of just left in boxes are she is staying there any other comments from our audience they say about the blessings I'm a single divorced mom and I work full time and being able to do this has really opened my eyes is tio life's hard and I've got all these things that weren't the way I had planned them but life is still beautiful no matter what and I even include the bad things you know like when she threw up in the morning and it's all over the floor and in her hair I still include that because that's life that's what I love about this is it's really we don't have to pretend you don't have to say, oh, life, you know, perfect it's, not it's, riel, that's, what I absolutely in about it. Thank you so much, and we're going to we're going to dig in a little bit more about that, too, as far as what should we document ups and downs and, you know, like we don't have to do the throwing up in the middle of night type of memories, necessarily, but you bring up a really good point, there's so much that people that we are not thinking about about what to put into a scuffle, and we're going to dig into that later for sure, and we got so many questions in the chairman. But as soon as you got going, becky, seventy, people saying, oh, my goodness, I used that glitter. I used that paper, they actually, so this is maybe their first interaction with you, but they've been following your ideas and your thoughts all this time, so that without even knowing it, wow.

I have been involved with scrapbooking for many years and have made numerous purchases for supplies, a room full and then became so overwhelmed by all of it that I have done very little. The reason being, that I was so conscious of what everyone else was doing and mine never quite measured up to what I saw that others were doing with all the embellishments, and techniques. I then turned to card making because it was a much quicker gratification than studying and laboring over the perfect layout with the perfect paper and etc. I had gotten an earlier Project Life kit of Becky's a few years ago and because of a very busy life had never fully gotten the concept, but thanks to Creative Live and Becky I am on the right track now. I am so very motivated and have recently taken all of my photos out of old albums, boxes, etc. and have them at least in order by years so that now I can begin to document this life of mine. By the way, I just turned 70 and boy does that mean a lot of photos. I am equally excited to get an album started for each of my grandchildren that they can document their own lives. My three youngest are 9,11 and 13 and are so heavily involved in sports, community, church and life itself that they need to document this now, for sure they will forget when they are 70 and trying to play catch-up. I have been a fan and follower of all things Becky Higgins since the beginning of Creating Keepsakes and have always felt she was so very authentic in her aspect of documenting, living life and celebrating everyday living. She is awesome and thank you Creative Live for having her on and allowing so many of us to share in this 3 day event. I know I am catching this in the summer 2014 when In fact this was done in 2013, but better late than not at all. A very special thanks to Becky!!!

I am very excited to document my families life. I have 5 kids and a wonderful husband and life goes so fast. I feel like I do everything on the express train! However, this course was not for someone with the ADD brain. This 3 day course could have easily been consolidated down to one day.... maybe two. I think Becky is adorable, however, think she said the same thing over and over again just a different way. I am excited to start project life and review the videos as I need to.

I need help with organization and this class really helped. I also love the simplicity of Project Life. One of my favorite things was how pictures are taken of kids projects to preserve them rather than keeping the originals. Photos of hands has also become a new interest thanks to one of the guest presenters. This class was worth every penny!
