Drive Mode

Over on the left side is the drive mode of the camera. And so, in this case, we have the option of deciding what happens when we press all the way down on the shutter release. Most of the time, my cameras are set in the single note. I'm just wanting to get one shot at a time. That's perfectly fine with me. When I'm shooting sports, I'm in the continuous mode. The camera does have a silent mode, which is kind of interesting and just for people who I don't own this camera, who were kind of interested in this let's. Go ahead and take a couple of normal photos, just for sound, and I'll lean in so you could get the mike on this one. And I'm gonna turn to go back into manual focus that we don't worry about focusing. All right, so let's go into the drive mode. And we're going to change this to silent shooting and it's. Not truly silent. But it is a little bit more quiet. And what it's doing? I'll switch back to the other one. Is it slowing down the mere operation? I'll do continuous here. And...

just for fun. They also have a silent continuous, which is slower, but a little bit quieter. It's not much if you were to look at it on some sort of audio peak form you'd find that the peaks are not quite as high so some of the other options in here is we do have a self timer option ten seconds we have a two second self timer and then we have a continuous self timer and if you're going to do a group shot let's say you got a bunch of friends and you're gonna do a group shot and you're going to take one photo I guarantee you someone's going blank and so what you can do in this one is actually I made the classic mistake there is I highlighted what I wanted to do but I didn't press set okay and I still wanted to get this up to four and so I'm going to do a self timer with four continuous pictures now this is set on ten second self timer so you can actually see the light blinking on my hand here so it's going to take four pictures really quickly and it would be really unusual to have someone blinking all four photos and so that's a safe way to get that one shot one set up get a bunch of shots and make sure no one's blinking so those are our drive modes normally I leave it in single when I'm shooting sports I'm shooting continuous when I do travel photography I want to lower the sound of the camera. So I would go to silent, even though it's not truly silent. And in case you're wondering, there is a remote that you can get for this. The rc six sells for about twenty bucks and is a very handy device for when you want to get the camera to shoot. And you can't be by. I was actually in a situation where I was doing a tour in morocco, and I had a camera mounted up in the ceiling. And I wasn't able to be up in the ceiling to shoot the photo. But I was able to use a remote to fire the camera from a different position. So enables you to get some very creative shots from time to time. So those are the direct controls on the back of the camera now there is a little light that you may have seen turning on and off over on the right hand side that just means that the camera is writing information to the memory card. Most importantly, do not pull the memory card out of the camera while that light is turned on, it means it's working and it's busy you should probably also not take the battery out of the camera that would be very bad if you turn the camera off the cameras just going to stay on till it's done working the camera as a very fast processor so it won't stay on for very fine very long at all. Now we do have the set button in the middle as you've seen we've been having to use that to enter the options that we want to choose and our quick control dial, which is oh so convenient but sometimes gets bumped and so there is a lock switch where you can lock this so that it does not have any impact. Now one of the options that you have in the setup menu is so that you can go in and lock the main dial on the top the camera as well as the dial on the back of the camera, so it depends on how many things you accidentally bump and one toe lock in place all right next up the live you and shooting movie mode and so a big part of these cameras now is shooting movies and being able to use the camera or the screen on the back of the camera for shooting photos and so let's talk about how this camera works when it's in the live you mode because it is notably different from standard picture taking modes and so first off if you want to do live view and that's just where we get to see what's going on on the screen we're going to press the live view button and that is going to do a number of things in the camera so that we can see exactly what's going on from there you'll be able to hit the info button to choose mohr or less information and let's go ahead and get my camera up and running here in the live you mode so let's just hit the live you button at the live you button there and we are alive let me go ahead and point it a little bit more something we have to focus on I'm going to go ahead and throw this lens back in the auto focus so you have to look at an out of focus screen and so in our camera we have our live view what we conceal on here we can actually use the touch shutter on this to either focus on different subjects we confer with this subject right up here and we can choose where we want to focus over on the right hand side we can point up to the left hand side it's not really quick at focusing there are many cameras that are faster than this at focusing and so this is not it's best feature you might say he is focusing in live you is a little bit slow we do have an option down here that we can turn on and off which is a touch shutter normally I have this turned off just simply so that I can focus on a subject right there see if we can focus there we go I could go to a touch shudder and now when I touch this it activated the self timer that I have acted in a few moments ago so I am going to see if I could turn this off after it shoots I think it's going to do the fourth jots thank you very much for pictures of that and so let's turn that dr mode here's a quick mode I'm going to talk about this in a moment and where's my drive where's my drive mount up so it looks like I need to kick out of this go back into this and change it back down to single go back into live you so now I have it on touch shutter so what it does is I touch an area it will focus and try to shoot a photo there as well but it's a little bit slow as we can see it needs a good target to focus on focus and take a picture and so in the live you mode is we can see things are not working quite as quickly so let's go back to the kino now one of the things that you can do while you're in this mode is you can hit the cubans and you can go in and change many of the common factors that you would want to change in the live you mode the way your camera is using the focusing the white balance the image quality picture style there's a lot of things that you can access through the main menu or other direct controls that you'll also be able to do in the q manu one of the main ones he is going to be the auto focus method in this camera so I want to do a little a few more examples of that and so let's go ahead and activate our camera into the live you mode again and we did see me jumping around here and so one of the options is the cue button up here in the corner and we can turn on these extra different features and so there's where I could have done the drive mode right here this would have been faster this is where we had it out we're going to do it in! The single shot mode we can change our auto focusing. So is, um and we have three different types of focusing systems. We have my favorite is this little bracket one here. And so this way, if I have an area I want to focus on, I can choose where that focus point is. Now I'm going to turn off. These photos are goingto philip this memory card, and so now I'm just going to touch and choose where I want to focus, and then I will take a picture up on top here. Another option with the focusing system is just a large, big bracket. And so now it's, just using this entire bracket area in which to focus and it is being confused by the fact that I have something very close up and it's not really sure how to grab onto it. I can't direct to the camera quite a z easily, and if I move it a little bit further off frame. Let's. See, I can still touched it. Give it an arian. So here, it's actually trying to track the movement, but it's not doing a very good job. Let's, see if I can get it. Focus in on this subject over here, it's put it more in the center. And so now it can actually track it around a little bit. And so if I move it a little bit way away, and so this might be good for a subject that's moving in and out. The problem is, is that the lens is not really fast in being able to adjust this, but it can do this now. I'm going to need some assistance from kenna on this next one, because the next mode that we have is a face detection mode. And so we're going to need to see if we can get a face in here. And so we'll see if we can get cannot come up over towards the cameras and you can see the box. Can you just move a little bit to your left and to your right a bit? It can actually track her face, and if you want to walk towards the camera a few steps it's actually tracking her face and it's doing a pretty good job of this. Yeah, it's fallen around pretty good. Back up a little bit and see if we shoot a picture and right back there hold it right there and we'll take a photo there and just for kicks thank you canna we're going to take played that image back and we're going to zoom in and it's nice insurance so looks great and so it's a good face tracking system and so the face tracking is ah do you really want to do face tracking or not and there are some cases where you're not shooting people and you just don't need it you just want to give the camera direction is to where you want to focus if you have multiple people in the frame it might get confused about who to focus on who's closest who's got the biggest head the biggest hair the biggest hat there's a lot of things that could affect it and so if there's just a single person it does a very good job as you saw and that will depend a little bit on the lenses some lenses are better this lens is known as an s t m lens which is a little bit smoother transition for these for motion and I'm going to talk more about some of those lenses a little bit later so it is affected a little bit by the lens but those are a couple of the more common focusing systems that you can use and how you might use them in the camera and so face tracking good if you have one person not so good with lots of people in the frame, I'm not a big fan of the flexi zone. Multi, because it's, doing so many things automatically for you. You don't have a lot of control. But if you're not sure what you're doing, and you just want to put it in the simplest mode possible, that would be the simplest mode. But I do like the flexi zone single so that you could be very precise about what you're choosing to be in focus. And this is information that's going to be good for both movie shooting and being in the live you mode.
