Equipment
All right, gang, let's start talking about equipment now. When I'm referring to equipment, I'm not talking about the actual mobile device or camera you're gonna use. That's on you. You pick the device that works for you. I happen to be on a IPhone 12 currently. What? I'm talking about our accessories, like extra little bits that help you up your game so anymore. For me, my camera kit is this big. It's tiny. And what does that include? What that generally includes our tripods, case assist lenses, lighting cubes, color chart pens or stylists and then some extra storage device. So let's talk about this for just a minute on the tripods. So, look, a handy dandy little tripod here could make all the difference. What I have this I like it molds into whatever shape I need. So I can actually put it on rocks or whatever. And I've got a little camera mount for my phone on there, or the tall tripod here. Very, very handy. And it's tiny. I mean, look how look how tiny this is. This is so small, and...
it's all I need because the mobile device is so lightweight and another little tip on this is. Did you know that your headphones can actually trigger your camera so you can set up your phone on a tripod and have your your buds or your your your buds in and trigger your camera with it? It's so handy, and it makes it so. You don't shake the camera, especially if you're doing a longer exposure, all right. The other thing is this grip. I cannot live without this group and what it does. It flattens down or it pulls forward, and it allows you to put your fingers in there instead of your phone. And then when you're shooting your camera or phone is super steady. Honestly, it's cheapest chips, and it is so helpful now I do have a gimbal, but for my style, I tend to not use it. And the reason is the hand trigger on a gimbal. That software doesn't trigger the light room mobile camera app, and that's what I do. The majority of my shooting in so Gimbels could be really handy. Um, I happen to not use one, but I want you to know it's available now as faras studying your device or holding your device. Honestly, you cannot beat a lanyard. A lanyard goes around your neck. It holds the your phone or your camera in place. And why I like this is I took a trip on the back of a motorcycle toothy solar fest in Oregon all the way up California. I was able to shoot the entire time without ever fearing I was gonna lose the camera. So look for a couple dollars. This is such a huge, huge insurance. Speaking of insurance, the other one that is a a No, you have to have it. That's all I want to say is some kind of waterproof device. And why I say this is on a faithful trip to Costa Rica. I managed to drop my phone in a swamp filled with crocodiles, probably halfway through the trip. And that was it. Gone, baby gone. So, for again, very little dollars. You can save your camera, So please get these two devices. They're cheap, inexpensive. Let me call it that way. Now. Extracurricular accessories. Thes air. Not necessarily, um necessary. Not necessary. But oh, my gosh. They're amazing. I get really excited about this thes moment. Lenses are exquisite. They're made of glass. Their heavy. They're beautiful. They're warm, their tiny look. These are the mobile lenses, teeny tiny little cases. But the effects you get are amazing. I'm particularly fond of the 18 millimeter wide lens, and if you look there, look how warm that lenses. It's a nice, heavy piece of glass, and it's gorgeous. Three other E must have lens is their macro lens. Uh, it's exquisite. It fits on now because the lenses are kind of heavy because they're high quality. You need to have a special, uh, phone case that has a key mount on it. Toe. Hold the lens. I just wanna let you know this. You can find it on shop moment. These lenses are exquisite. Now I know you can do. Why shooting with your phones Now They have a wider lens available, but it's nothing like these moment lenses. The macro lens you cannot do without having a next ra device. And I gotta tell you, gang, I think it's worth the extra few dollars to get a high quality one rather than a cheap one. You just glue onto the front of your camera, and a little tip is sometimes when I'm doing macro photography. I actually use a telephoto lens. So on this praying Mantis who I named Charlie, I was trying to shoot him on the sunflowers and he kept scooting away when I was using the macro lens. So when I use a telephoto lens, I didn't scare him so much. You can have a lot of fun with these now on the wide lenses. Yes, most phones come with a really decent wide lens now, Yes, that is true. However, there's kind of a warmth and equality to these moment lenses that are exquisite. And this this landscape shot I have here, there's no filter on there. That's just straight out of the camera in ah, morning hike. I took so something to investigate. And another really groovy device they have are these filter amounts and these filter amounts go on the outside of your mobile device and they have a 62 millimeter size lens. You can screw on there. You could put a polarizing filter, neutral density filters, color filters, whatever you want, and it really opens you up to a whole level of more pro style photography. Check him out now, Mike. Oh, my Gosh, I get so excited about this, you'll have to forgive my enthusiasm. I love lighting cubes. I use them all the time. I have the panel light. Look how tiny these are. They all fit in my little tiny camera case here. And, um, you can really change up your work with such a small little edition. My latest favorite one is this. It's ah, anger phone flash. It's got a diffusion on it. So cool. And what that does is this actually plugs into the bottom of your mobile device and you can hold it because it's got this really groovy cord you can actually do side lighting you could do under lighting. You could do over lighting, and it triggers with the phone so much fun. Please give it a try. I cannot expensive all these devices air relatively inexpensive. Now, for those of you again, this section is a little more advanced. If you want to change your white balance, you want to correct for fluorescent or you want to add a color tone to your image. I'm going to show you this later in the editing division, but I just want you to know this product. I have a teeny, tiny little card, that color chart that actually put in the scene. I'm shooting and then in the color module in light room, you can use this, um, eyedropper and actually automatically color. Correct your image. How cool is that? I get tiny little card can fit on the back of your phone. Pence. I love using stylist when I'm doing retouching on a mobile device. But I want to be clear here. I don't use them on the phone. You can. You can absolutely use this on your phone, but I like to use this on a IPad, so I will use light room mobile, and I will do my retouching and editing on a mobile device. It just happens to be my IPad and it's completely sinks with your mobile device or your phone. Thes stylists are fairly inexpensive. They're about $20 us. And I think you're really, really appreciate what these different tips will get. You storage. Okay, this is really important. I say that because of personal experience here, um, when you travel to remote locations like Cuba or Iceland or heck, fire just out the countryside, you can quite easily fill up your phone quickly. I fill up my phone all the time, mostly because I shoot camera and the files or large, thes teeny tiny little storage devices can be again another insurance policy so that no matter where you are, you can add or unload your phone. So, for example, that 2100 and 28 gig SanDisk flash drive that plugs into the bottom of your phone. And when I was in Cuba shooting Thean turn, it was slow in light room. I shoot through light room light room goes up to the cloud. Well, it takes a while, and if you're on a slow WiFi, it really takes a while. Having this little device meant every night I could download all that I shot just as an extra insurance policy in case I filled up my phone, which I do all the time. The little SanDisk 32 gig drive that's a wireless connect hard drive, and I use that When I was in Iceland, it was a lifesaver. They're on the handout that's available in this class. You'll see all these different sites you can check out for different treatment, as I like to say you might find some fairly inexpensive additions to your mobile photography world. Oh, no, we're not talking about a lot of equipment here. So for a kind of gauge of what to do first, the very first thing I would suggest you get or anything to secure your device so you don't lose it. So either that lanyard or the waterproof container, the case assist like this kind of thing. Cheapest chips get it right away because that will up your game quite quickly. Next level, I would say, are those lighting cubes Those really, really can change your game and then next extra storage, depending on if you're traveling, because that's really important on that color chart during that color charts. Amazing the lenses. Check him out. They are, for some people, a little pricey, and you don't have to have them. So see where your budget allows you to go. And again, this is an ongoing process. You don't have to have all this at once. Heck, fire. You don't need any of this to start. You just need a mobile device. But as you know, I don't know, Christmas comes birthday comes or as you can justify it, just start adding to your co trauma. Happy shooting

Lisa, your classes are wonderful and inspiring. Even though I already have a fancy DSLR, I love experimenting with mobile photography and have just been getting into using Lightroom a lot on my mobile devices. There were many cool ideas in this course that I wasn't aware of. I'd highly recommend it to others interested interested in creative mobile photography. Thank you so much for providing the slides as a pdf download - they are thorough, well organized and easy to reference when it isn't convenient to open a video file.
