Lightroom Mobile: Sharing Images

1 So let's assume that we have finished 2 all of our photos, we've adjusted 'em all. 3 Remember, we've already gotten rid of the throwaways, 4 the things that we don't want. 5 We backed them up here so that we still have 6 the original images that we threw away here 7 just in case we ever want to go back to 'em. 8 So at this point, it's a matter of what do we want 9 to do with these images? 10 How do I want to treat 'em? 11 Where do I want to go with them? 12 Now, we've already shown you inside of Lightroom 13 on your desktop computer or on your laptop, 14 the new version of Lightroom, 15 that there are connection points. 16 So I could send them to White House Custom Color to print. 17 I could send them to SmugMug to show 'em to my clients. 18 I could deliver them to my portfolio on Adobe Portfolio. 19 I can do a lot of things with those types of connections. 20 I can send them to Blurb to make a book. 21 But I also want to know what can I do from my iPad? 22 What can I do from my ph...

one? 23 Because I don't necessarily have the same connections. 24 So if I go back to Lightroom here, 25 you can see that I don't have those connections 26 that we're talking about inside of Lightroom, 27 the new version of Lightroom on my computer. 28 And so what can I absolutely do with these? 29 If I click on an image, let's say I really like... 30 Oh, let's just go to the one I really love. 31 So let's just go to this one. 32 So, what can I do with this image that I love 33 right here on the iPad, not having to go somewhere else? 34 If I'm traveling and I've worked on this image, 35 what can I do with it? 36 Well, I can click on the Share button. 37 And in the Share button, I have the ability 38 to just download it to the device, 39 which allows me to put it on this device, 40 and then whatever this device can do, 41 I can share it that way. 42 So if I'm sending it to social media, 43 or if I am just showing it inside of the Photos application, 44 whatever I want to do, I can do that. 45 That's the most simple way of sharing this. 46 The other thing that I can do is click on the Share button. 47 And that share button just allows me 48 to go into the share options inside 49 of the iPad or the phone. 50 I can also add a border and share. 51 So if I click on that, it gives me an option 52 to choose some kind of a border. 53 I can choose the thickness of that border. 54 This is really an option so that you can share it 55 to social media with this kind of a border. 56 So if I click on that, 57 it's kind of the Instagram Polaroid look. 58 So these are just options that are kind of pre-canned 59 versions for different social media. 60 But like this one is for X, and it's a 2:1 ratio. 61 So right now what's happening is 62 that I can choose the thickness, 63 but see how it's maintaining that aspect ratio 64 and just putting a background behind it. 65 I can change that to black, I can change it to gray. 66 I can do whatever I want. 67 I can add my own color to it and just say, 68 I want it to be the exact color of this blue color. 69 There we go. That's actually kind of cool. 70 But I can do that. 71 Or, if I wanted to, I could go back and say, 72 well, I want it to be 2:1, 73 and so I'm going to X out of here. 74 I'm gonna crop it as 2:1, come back here, 75 And then that border would just be an even 76 border all the way around. 77 So that's an option. 78 Once I've done that, if I click on the Share button here 79 like this, it's going to create that photo, 80 and then it's gonna open up and say, 81 where do you want to share it? 82 And then I would go find the social media 83 that I wanna share it to. 84 I can just save the image down to my device 85 and then share it from there. 86 So you can see I have a whole bunch 87 of different programs here, 88 and I can actually edit all of those programs 89 and turn them on and off. 90 So any program that you have that allows that kind 91 of sharing capability is gonna show up here. 92 I don't use this Face app, so I can turn that off. 93 I don't use Graphite. 94 So all of these types of things I can turn off 95 so that I'm not seeing 'em all the time. 96 And then it just limits how long that menu is. 97 I can share it to people. 98 I can share it to applications. 99 The other thing I can do is Export As. 100 If I click on that, it gives me the option 101 to export as whatever. 102 We already used the original option, 103 and save them specifically to a hard drive so that 104 we could export the originals and have a backup. 105 So that's an archiving technique. 106 But I can also export a JPEG, or a DNG, 107 or a TIFF. 108 I can do a lot of different things. 109 So if I wanted to export a TIFF 110 and then edit it in Photoshop, I could do that. 111 I'm gonna just make a JPEG. 112 I can choose the largest dimensions available. 113 And the reason that's an option as opposed to... 114 See how it's got a small option. 115 That's basically for Instagram and social media posts. 116 I can do a custom option here, 117 or I can do the largest available. 118 Largest available is just gonna take 119 whatever size the image is. 120 So if I've sent images from Lightroom Classic, 121 they are smart previews, so they're about 2,000-ish pixels. 122 And so it's gonna save a JPEG that's about 2,000 pixels. 123 I can also choose the quality of the image. 124 100% quality is what I'm always gonna choose. 125 I can include a watermark 126 and then I can customize that watermark. 127 So this is a great way to add a watermark 128 here inside of Lightroom. 129 So if you have a logo that you want to use 130 or a signature, just turn it into a transparent PNG 131 and that will allow you to choose that and go 132 and put it right here so that then you have, 133 and you can see what I have here. 134 I have a little, that JP circle, that's my logo, 135 and I can change the size of it. 136 I can change the offset, 137 like how far is it away from the corner, 138 both vertically and horizontally. 139 And that's it. 140 Or I can do text and I could type 141 my copyright information on the image. 142 So I can create a watermark. That's awesome. 143 And I also have a few more options 144 that have to do with what kind of information is in there. 145 So like for instance, I can choose 146 to have the camera information in there, 147 the location information in there. 148 I can also do the file naming. 149 Do I want the original? 150 Do I want a custom name, or a date file name? 151 So if I click Custom Name, then I get 152 to name the custom text 153 and the number that's gonna come out. 154 So on the way out, I'm renaming these images. 155 I can also choose what kind of output sharpening 156 I want, and what color space I want them to be in, 157 as well as whether or not I'm outputting them 158 in an HDR type format. 159 So essentially, inside of Lightroom on your mobile device, 160 you have a full on exporting capability. 161 Like it has pretty much everything 162 that you need from an exporting standpoint. 163 So you could export all of these. 164 And when you hit the check box to export it, 165 it's just gonna ask you where you want to send it. 166 So I can send it to the device, I can send it to the Files, 167 and that way I could click on Files, 168 and then I could plug in a thumb drive, 169 and I could download it directly to that hard drive, 170 and then hand it off to a client. 171 There's just so much I could do with it. 172 I can send it, I can email it, I can text it, 173 I can use Airdrop to get it there. 174 The sky's the limit as to where it's gonna go. 175 And the fact that you have the renaming option 176 means that it's pretty much, essentially, the same 177 as exporting 'em from your laptop 178 or from your desktop computer, 179 especially if the images originated inside of Lightroom 180 mobile or inside of Lightroom on your desktop computer, 181 as opposed to Lightroom Classic. 182 The original full sized image is in the cloud 183 and on all these devices. 184 And so when it's exporting that image, 185 it is exporting the most pristine JPEG you can have. 186 If you come from Lightroom Classic, 187 then it would be exporting a JPEG 188 from the Lightroom Classic Smart Preview, 189 which is a smaller RAW image. 190 Still better than just a JPEG, but it is a small RAW image, 191 so it can't export the full high-resolution JPEG. 192 Not only can you export it as a very specific file, 193 we can save it to our device, we can share it to our device, 194 so that gives us more options. 195 We can add a border and share it, 196 or we can export it with very specific information, 197 including renaming the file, 198 which is kind of new inside of Lightroom mobile. 199 And by the way, if you want to change 200 what kind of file it's sharing or saving, 201 just go over to these little setting buttons here. 202 If you click on those, it gives you the options 203 as to what you are saving out when you save them. 204 You can also edit the image in Photoshop. 205 And so if you have Photoshop on your iPad, 206 it will open this image inside of Photoshop on the iPad. 207 And Photoshop on the iPad is really quite impressive. 208 So if you haven't played with Photoshop 209 on the iPad, it has layers, 210 it has a lot of the stuff that you want to be able 211 to use inside of Photoshop, 212 including retouching options and things like that. 213 So if you are editing on your iPad, 214 go ahead and play with Photoshop 215 because it is fantastic to be able to work on an image. 216 Again, I'm going to Iceland and I'm going to Scotland 217 for about two weeks, 218 and I'm only going to have an iPad with me. 219 I'm pretty excited about it 'cause this thing's light, 220 and it fits right inside of my photo backpack, 221 and that's all I'm taking with me. 222 Not lugging around heavy computers, 223 not lugging around heavy hard drives. 224 Everything's really light and I can just play with it there, 225 open it in Photoshop, 226 and I'm working on the full high-resolution image 227 right here inside of my iPad. 228 And I can use Photoshop. 229 So I'm gonna be posting a lot of stuff. 230 So you'll probably see a lot of my stuff come on Instagram. 231 It's just at @JaredPlatt. 232 So look up me up on Instagram and follow you can create an edit replay. 243 Those two things allow you to show your images 244 to the community, but also this edit replay 245 kind of goes through and shows the stages of your edit. 246 Kind of fun, but just play with it. 247 Once you've done something to your image, 248 click on that and it'll create a little step by step 249 that you can post on social media. 250 And finally, the invite and get a link option 251 at the very bottom is pretty much the same thing 252 that we had inside of Lightroom on our computer. 253 We can create a link, 254 we can make that link to just one image, 255 or we can do it to an entire set of images. 256 So if I click on this link, 257 I can just choose to make a webpage just for this one image, 258 or I can make one for the entire album of images 259 if I do the same thing for the album itself. 260 And if I copy this link and I open that link up, 261 so I'm gonna copy that link. 262 So I open this up in Safari 263 and you can see it's just one photo, 264 but it's a webpage for that one photo. 265 So I don't have to, like, if I want to send a photo 266 for review all the way from Iceland 267 and I have limited capabilities, 268 or I have a slow internet cafe or something like that, 269 I can simply... 270 I already have the image in the cloud. 271 And so I can just simply send a link to somebody 272 to review those images or that one image, 273 rather than trying to email a big file to them. 274 But if I only have access to texting, 275 then I could text that photo instead. 276 So instead of sharing it as a link, I could say, 277 instead of sharing this as a link, I'm gonna share this 278 as an image that's gonna go to someone on text. 279 So I have all of those share options available 280 to me at all times. 281 And the same's true on the phone. 282 So all of these options that you've been seeing here 283 inside of Lightroom on the iPad 284 are available here on the phone as well.
