Creating Mixed Media Mash Ups
Let's talk about this paint okay, so these air this is a really cool product that crystal hartley cells called makes me mash ups and I'm going to use these so that I don't have tio make a really painted background but let's just pretend that I painted all this and now way want tio use the paint and instead of having these be color which we can add a color overlay to all of these pieces of pain and we can go through one by one and we can make them all different colors but that's not very fun it can be a lot more fun to use paint if you could if you use it with paper styles are paid your papers so you can use paint as a clipping mask as well. So let's talk about that might pull this photo on here uh, you could smaller. Okay, so I have this photo and I have all of this paint and I have a kit now you can use paint as clipping mass for your papers and it will give you just like on that first lay out that we looked at a super cool blended look with patterns instead of just colors and I'm jus...
t gonna randomly dragged these in here and as we build up the paint brushes with the pattern papers it's a really easy way to get a lot of visual a lot of visual depth in your photo and get that art generally look without having to really think about it you know you can just especially with these mixed media mash ups but if you just take your brushes and you just um painting and then click papers to it it gives you a really cool it now you don't have to go all over the page like this you khun just instead of having all of these pain pieces let's turn a few a mom you can instead clip a pattern paper for highlights and accents instead of having the paper strips it's the same effect but it's paint instead so no no because of pain you can have the inner shadow for the bubble on boss if you want a little bit of texture but you wouldn't shadow the actual paint layer because what we're acting as paint instead of as a paper strip so now you have all this pain let's turn off the ones we haven't clipping to you have all this pain and you don't have to leave it the way that it is you can now change the blend modes to what's to overlay and now you can mix these pieces of pain together to create a whole new effect and really take the product and turn it into something completely different you can also let's use a brush and you can do the same thing with your photos let's make this on a little bit smaller because we want to be about the same size as our photo I have to okay that'll that'll work when we get the cute little head shot so you can just stamp your brush and then clip your photo to you brush and you get that really neat effect that looks like I mean in real life this would be you could do this you have to do something like with transfer paper stuff but digitally it's really easy and a super fun way to add things to your layout that's different we want to think outside the box with one modes we want to think what else can we do besides layering paper and embellishments? How can we change our layout so that they're more interesting or so that we can just trying new things no rules with our journalist you make sure what really changed the pellet to black or there when you clip here for uh yeah, I just well, just for for giggles I like to make sure that if you ok so now let's talk about that if you have a color under here okay, so we have I changed it to black but let's say that you have a color under here let's too red instead of black delete pickup thousand rid when you start playing with blend modes it will start picking up the color underneath it yeah, so I like to start with black unless that's going to be something I go for. And if it's black, then you can. It changes in a different way. Doesn't pick up color. Yeah.

I have recently discovered digital scrapbooking and have been using a great scrapbooking software that I downloaded on-line. There are limitations with the software that prompted me to look deeper for ideas. Traci's course was fantastic! I learned so much from her not only in scrapbooking layouts and using different elements in a page but my level of understanding of photoshop has improved dramatically. The presentation was easy to follow and broken into perfect chunks to go back and review the techniques. Thank you so much Traci for presenting this awesome course. I will look for more of your courses. Your scrapbooking is beautiful and inspiring!

I'm a photographer. I do a lot of graphic design for my business. I feel like I'm fairly knowledgeable. I saw this class being shown for free on Creative Live one day and it wasn't my first choice to watch, but was the best out of the list... I was wrong. This is a great class. I didn't expect to learn that much and I've been learning a lot! Great info!

Not only did she talk about how to do things in Photoshop [the computer steps] but she also explained art and design tips: what looks good and what doesn't on a page. That was a very nice touch.
