What is the Brush Tool?
So the first thing that I want to talk about is let's talk about paints and brushes now there's two different kinds of paint in the digital world you can either a lot of designers include paint already made in their kid that matches their kid, but you can also play with brushes so we're going to start with brushes and I'm just going to talk about the brush panel and how it works and I am I just brought a sampling of brushes from my own library to play with but you can buy brushes from all sorts of designers sell them and you can also get free brushes that you download online as well there's all kinds of russia's all over the internet and basically what I brush is if you haven't used one before it's like it's like the equivalent of a stamp in some of them are you know their actual word art stamps or they are pictures and that sort of thing and some of them are more equivalent to like a single brushstroke where they look like paint and we're going to be talking about the paint ones today...
and I brought in a bunch so I just just like with layer styles and actions, all you have to do is drag and drop it into your photo shot program and it will automatically load and I just did that so let's look at our rush palette um it looks a little bit scary it's not scary these are all different sorts of russia's these are actually the stock rushes from photos show but we're not going to really be working with those the only stock brush I really truly worked with for for the shop is the hard edged in the sawfish circle brush the rest of these air for artistic effects for if you're gonna draw and photo shop and that sort of thing they're totally useful for that but for digital scrapbooking I generally don't use them but I do love brushes that looked like paint and I have quite a few loaded in here there's different styles there is some that look like splatters these looked like watercolor brushstrokes this is the paint ring and then there's the more textural brushes and they all have their different uses it really just depends on what you're doing with them so let's open up let's open up a canvas and play with a little bit of paint no actually it's just open up a new campus so I'm gonna start with I have my own preset twelve by twelve layout twelve inches by twelve inch lay out three hundred d p I know I don't know if you guys know this but in photo shop if you are always constantly opening up a twelve by twelve layout and you don't want to put in the dimensions every time you can save a preset and you want to make sure that you're also set to turns parent because you don't want any white background and if you say this preset it auto fills with the size so twelve by twelve and then now when you go to open up the canvas you can go to your preset and auto fill everything and you don't have to intern in every single time straight off the grid now I am going to add a white background just so that we can see the rushes in this instance just gonna use the paint bucket tool and at a white background and then I'm gonna open up I'm gonna create a new layer on top to play with my rushes so when you have brushes there's two different ways to use them and generally in digital scrapbooking we're going to have already done brush and what that means is that all you have to do with this brush but I'm gonna change the color to blacks we can see it is stamp it it's already got a ton of texture and it's got it's ready to go um you wouldn't want tio click and drag this brush unless you're really going for that kind of effect you can change the way that it looks but you can see that because it has that little artifact right there it gets repetitive down the line so these air brush is really for stamping and you can change the color of the brush very easily. You just use the sliders. This will take thistle. Pick your hugh and then this will pick the amount of saturation and lightness. Of course, the more saturated dark colors are up in this corner and you have to be very careful with the cam. It this means that when you print your layout, the the color that you've chosen is out of gamut. And what that means is it's, not printable by a printer and what's gonna happen when you print it. Is it's going to be the wrong color? So if you are choosing your own colors before your brushes, you want to make sure that if you get this little warning that pops up, you just kind of move it away from the saturation until it disappears. There's another option? If you're not very picky, we'll hear there's another option. You can click this little square and it will automatically move it into the closest in gamma color. But that could be yeah. It's a very far gamine let's. Try this. Another one over here? Yeah, way out of gamma here. So yes. So, um I like to click and drag it back in the damage is so I can choose, but see all of these air very saturated colors

I have recently discovered digital scrapbooking and have been using a great scrapbooking software that I downloaded on-line. There are limitations with the software that prompted me to look deeper for ideas. Traci's course was fantastic! I learned so much from her not only in scrapbooking layouts and using different elements in a page but my level of understanding of photoshop has improved dramatically. The presentation was easy to follow and broken into perfect chunks to go back and review the techniques. Thank you so much Traci for presenting this awesome course. I will look for more of your courses. Your scrapbooking is beautiful and inspiring!

I'm a photographer. I do a lot of graphic design for my business. I feel like I'm fairly knowledgeable. I saw this class being shown for free on Creative Live one day and it wasn't my first choice to watch, but was the best out of the list... I was wrong. This is a great class. I didn't expect to learn that much and I've been learning a lot! Great info!

Not only did she talk about how to do things in Photoshop [the computer steps] but she also explained art and design tips: what looks good and what doesn't on a page. That was a very nice touch.
