Different Ways to Cluster with Alphabets
So let's talk about titles and we're gonna come back to this tile again on this happy happy happy and instead of talking about how last time we talked about how it creates emotion with repetition what it also those in this layout is it kind of anchors the whole page it's kind of if you didn't have it here if you could imagine that it's not there this whole cluster of um of photos and embellishments it kind of come out and stick out over these paper strips and it would be kind of off balance and look a little bit odd so what happens with this happy happy happy down here is the kind of anchors and fills up that space so that it's not just hanging out there the photos aren't just hanging out there in space so you can use titles anchor a cluster anchor your layout instead of you know another option would have been to put it over here which would be a little bit more predictable with your cluster you can use your car use titles to frame a layout now this is one of my favorite layout my kids...
got ipod touches one year for their birthdays and they would include us all in group texts and fight with each other they would send each other the poopy smiley faces and they would call each other names and they would tell on each other in these group texts and this is one day and I saved all of these group texts and it was driving me insane. My kids fight all the time anyway, so I didn't need them fighting with me over text. And so, um, I used that stop the madness to really frame that center cluster that's like just absolute madness of all of these texts that were driving me crazy, and so you can see that instead of having the title down here in the corner just as an afterthought, it actually creates the entire cluster and really frames it in and brings your eye into the middle and you can feel my pain. And then same kit this'll lay out again in this instance, we're using the title too express emotion again, and we're using the title to fill up the space. So I had all of this stuff going on and all of this really layer heavy lay out to express my pain about my child, who won't stop talking, and what happened was I just added this one little talk down here, and it didn't make sense. It was just kind of hanging out there by itself, and I had all of this stuff going on, I said, what about how can we, um duplicated to make it really capture the mood of the layout, which is make sense, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk so I just spread it out over all of the empty face of the layout and really drove the point home, so your title doesn't have to be just I always talks in the car it can you can use it to express the emotion instead of spelling it out for people. So let's talk about different ways to cluster with, um, alphabets. So I have a couple of off of that here as an example, we have a standoff of it. We have a circular small alphabet, and we have ah, regular chipboard off of it. So I'm just gonna open up a blank canvas and we're gonna work just with this chipboard alphabet. So I mean, he's black range behind me. So one option and I know that alphabets intimidate people, sometimes a lot of people don't use alphabets. Who is there? Anyone here that doesn't use alphabets because they're a little bit hard to use now you like half of it's? Good. I was I've been told a few times that, oh, I don't ever use your off obits anyway, like, oh, ok, I'll just stop making them but no, a lot of people use them, but a lot of people don't because it can be kind of a hassle because you have to draw it in there, pull it in letter by letter, you know, to make sure everything is lined up perfectly but you really don't you don't have to kill them. Yeah, so let's talk about that um I'm just going toe title here you don't have to drive him in one by one you can also select multiple copies and drag them all in look at the title here, okay? So this is a serviceable title it works but there's not a lot of variation and doesn't it doesn't provide any kind of visual interest for your viewer and it doesn't express any emotion is just a very serviceable this is my title and this is what I like ok, this is what I had to say, so I I think that you should be adding interests here titles they don't have to be this plain boring afterthought so you can like riffle said you can skew your title letters a little bit so that they are just a little bit wonky a little bit offset which is so funny because when I did start trying to paper scrap book it's like you have to get everything straight whereas on my digital lay out the letters are always crazy I never have straight letters, but my paper layouts it was like an obsession, so I just like to overlap them a little bit I like to create some fun lines and then you can see the difference it just creates a little bit more of a clustering effect and makes it more interesting. So another thing that you can dio is yuk unjust get rid of this bottom line altogether and let's use another alphabet in its place so cheesy movies let's grab this aqua and we're going to mix alphabet together and we're going to have two different effects and it gives the title cluster a little bit more visual interests I need an ar here we go okay, so we have all of these title here you could see what the smart guides on it'll automatically a line for you and click and drag across to duplicate it now this too big when you're using two different alphabets together you want there to be different visual wait so these two together they're too big so I'm gonna make this a lot smaller and I'm gonna overlap but a little bit. So now you have, um a title that has a little bit more going on and a little it's a little bit more interesting to look at and this one works too and I've done this many times before and what makes it work is the fact that one is a straight letter and one is a shape. One is different. If you were using to let her off of its together, it wouldn't be a visually interesting.

I have recently discovered digital scrapbooking and have been using a great scrapbooking software that I downloaded on-line. There are limitations with the software that prompted me to look deeper for ideas. Traci's course was fantastic! I learned so much from her not only in scrapbooking layouts and using different elements in a page but my level of understanding of photoshop has improved dramatically. The presentation was easy to follow and broken into perfect chunks to go back and review the techniques. Thank you so much Traci for presenting this awesome course. I will look for more of your courses. Your scrapbooking is beautiful and inspiring!

I'm a photographer. I do a lot of graphic design for my business. I feel like I'm fairly knowledgeable. I saw this class being shown for free on Creative Live one day and it wasn't my first choice to watch, but was the best out of the list... I was wrong. This is a great class. I didn't expect to learn that much and I've been learning a lot! Great info!

Not only did she talk about how to do things in Photoshop [the computer steps] but she also explained art and design tips: what looks good and what doesn't on a page. That was a very nice touch.
