30. Incorporating Journaling in the Design

Incorporating Journaling in the Design

So let's, look at a couple more examples of journaling, and there are things that you can do to change up your journaling in other ways. Let's, look at this one, you can change the fonz you this the journaling is a major part of this design. This is obviously a picture of my middle son. I have a lot of my middle son on this course, my middle son when he was really little, he said a lot of crazy things, and he still says a lot of crazy things, but I really wanted to write them all down before I forgot about all of them, so I use different fonts, and I place them all around the outside edges of this layout, so you're journaling doesn't have to be one big block, either. It can be lots of little note s and it can be everywhere, and you can incorporate into the design that way makes up your funds, change things up a little bit, mixed up the colors of your fonts, and then you can incorporate your journaling into the actual design of the papers, and this is one that I wanted tio kind of this ...

is such a bold paper, and if I had tried tio put the journaling over the lines, it would have been, it would have been hard to read, and it wouldn't have flowed with the layout as well so let's talk about how to do this it looks harder than it is just like everything else we've been doing today open up the chevron paper and I'm going to add in some journalist now if you know that you're going to be journaling and a rectangle and you want to create a journal box you don't have to use the shape tool to create a rectangle journal box I used a rectangle is an example but any shape will work on dh when I showed earlier so if you know that you're going to do a rectangle instead of a different shape you can just click and drag to create a journal locks and this will be the dimensions and the bounds of your journal box and so I'm going tio add in my temporary journaling and then I'm just going to rotate it along the same angle as this chevron and obviously two lines are three lines of journaling is too much but um I want to keep journaling and so I want to have another set of journaling and I'm just going to click and drag to duplicate this and then I would erase that third line that's overlapping and if it was really journaling I would cut it because I want oh I still want to have it so let's cut this line which is command x on the keyboard okay and so then we select this one I know I need to do a whole tire creative life class on keyboard shortcuts, and now we can't read the white, so we're gonna just change it to black, and you can use straight black or if it's an a little bit of a different black, even just sample, and then you can keep going with your journaling. So it's copy this so well paced it again, okay? And then it, if you still have more to say, the way that it worked out on this page is that I I wanted to move around that cluster, so I'm just going to duplicate it and then rotated again, and now it because the chevron's or even it's just going to be a ninety degree turn. And then I put the white over the black in the black over the white, and we're good to go so that's incorporating journaling into the actual design of a paper that's already there. Or, you know, if you had a strike paper, you could do the same thing. If you have a paper that has polka dots on it, like the big kind, you could use the shape tool and create a circle to journal in that's, right over the polka dot of the paper, there's lots of ways that you can incorporate your journaling into the actual product that you're using as well. So that it it doesn't detract from the product and doesn't get lost in the product. But rather adds to it.

I have recently discovered digital scrapbooking and have been using a great scrapbooking software that I downloaded on-line. There are limitations with the software that prompted me to look deeper for ideas. Traci's course was fantastic! I learned so much from her not only in scrapbooking layouts and using different elements in a page but my level of understanding of photoshop has improved dramatically. The presentation was easy to follow and broken into perfect chunks to go back and review the techniques. Thank you so much Traci for presenting this awesome course. I will look for more of your courses. Your scrapbooking is beautiful and inspiring!

I'm a photographer. I do a lot of graphic design for my business. I feel like I'm fairly knowledgeable. I saw this class being shown for free on Creative Live one day and it wasn't my first choice to watch, but was the best out of the list... I was wrong. This is a great class. I didn't expect to learn that much and I've been learning a lot! Great info!

Not only did she talk about how to do things in Photoshop [the computer steps] but she also explained art and design tips: what looks good and what doesn't on a page. That was a very nice touch.
