How to Become a Better Editor
Alrighty, we have talked about a lot of things in this course, we're now starting to wind down, but before we kind of close out, I do want to give you guys some tips to help you become a better editor in the future, just because you now understand light room and how to use it and you know, all the different sliders is it's not gonna make you a better editor overnight. In fact there's a lot of different things you have to do to make sure that you become a very effective editor in the future. And the first one is something that I mentioned earlier on this course and that's just experiment. You know, you're not gonna find your editing style right away, you're not going to create stunning edits right away. Experiment, edit as many photos as you can try different color combinations, you know, come up with horrible color combinations that are harmonious, come up with, you know, super dark photos. Just edit and experiment, do whatever you want, let yourself go and come up with All kinds of di...
fferent edits. I always say you know, edit one photo in 10 different ways, I said that earlier on this course and that's something I still do um when I want to kind of stretch my editing abilities a little bit, I'll edit a photo in a bunch of different ways. That's a great way to learn. The next tip I have for you is to step away. So I mentioned this in the common mistakes, you know, a lot of people um they don't step away from their photos and then they kind of get tunnel vision and they start to see colors in an unnatural way. So step away from your edits, come back and just do it frequently, so don't spend one session of of three hours editing, you know, spend six sessions of 30 minutes. Um that's going to be much more effective. The next tip I have for you is to learn the color schemes that you like. So play around with adobe, color CC and pantone. Find the color combinations that you like and figure out how you can capture those colors um with your camera and then how you can enhance those colors in the editing process. So that's gonna allow you to create stuff that you really love that you love to look at. Um And it's also gonna help you find your style in the future. I also recommend using presets. So once you do find that color scheme that you like, save it or if you have a photographer that you really look up to, you know, check them out, check out their presets um and you can get their color scheme that way and implement it into your own photos. Like I said, I have presets, so if you like my photos, you can get those on my website but there's a lot of other photographers out there as well. Presets are an awesome tool for getting those really specific color schemes that you really like. The next tip I have is mimic others. Once again, I mentioned this earlier on, I think mimicking is such a great way to grow and it goes hand in hand with experimentation. Um So you can, you know, experiment with your photos and try to mimic others, capture similar photos of the one that they have and try to edit it the same way or go to that website I mentioned earlier on, we saturate dot com, download the raw photo and try to edit that photo um to match the edited version that they also uploaded. Only saturate, so you can kind of try to match it, which is really awesome tool um for improving your editing abilities. Lastly don't get discouraged, you know, there's no right or wrong, so um just do whatever you want and don't let people tell you that your edits suck. Um It's just part of the process. If people don't like your edits, you know, whatever that doesn't matter. At the end of the day, it's about you, it's about what you like. Um So just keep experimenting. Just keep trying new things and I promise you're gonna become a better editor in the future
