What are Flows in Figma?
Hi, everyone. We're gonna look at flows. What are flows? That's these things. You've probably got flow one and flow three lying around somewhere and you're not sure how you got it. I'm gonna show you how to use them. Why? Four, how to rename them. All sorts of good stuff about flows in fig A. Let's jump in. OK. So do you already have some flows? You might have a bunch of them. OK. So go to prototype, I'm on my mobile one. I've got one flow, you might have another one. Why would you have more than one flow? It's because you're working on something else. Maybe down over here, you go to prototype it and you're like, I'm going to draw this to this one because this flow doesn't connect to this one at any stage. It goes. Oh, you need to start here and here. So you might end up with loads of them to get rid of them because you don't really know what they do yet. OK? You can have nothing selected. So click in the background beyond prototype and there's a bunch of flows and you can actually cli...
ck on them and delete them. OK? I have got a flow and it starts here. So what is the flow? Let's actually get going. So the only bit of prototyping I've done on this particular mobile mockup is on this page here. So it starts here. So it goes, I'm the beginning of the flow. You can start it somewhere else by clicking, holding and dragging it and say, actually start the flow there. And then when this button's clicked, OK? It goes to by now it goes all the way there. And when that one's clicked, it goes there, you start rigging it up. OK? So that's this particular photo. This is my e-commerce flow. So let's do that. Let's call it e-commerce flow. So I'm gonna click off in the background. I'm gonna name this one. I'm gonna call it Ecommerce flow cos that's what we've been kind of tasked to do, right? This is the task flow that we're doing. Let's say that we've been, we've finished that job now. We need to work on the login screen. OK? So it's another task flow. So I'm gonna go steal a login from somebody else. I found this one here from Bravo studio. Thank you very much, Man. Figment's great for the community. OK? So I'm gonna grab you, you, you, you see it's already rigged up under prototype, which is nice. I'm gonna copy it and it brings all the prototype stuff with it into here. Shift one to see everything I've got all of this stuff. What is this down here? It's junk. I've built throughout this course. I'm gonna paste this one down here. Should be above, but there's also junk up there. Junk everywhere. OK. So now at the moment though, there's no way of getting to here. OK. So if I go and preview it, how many pages have we got? We've got a bunch of frames. Let's preview it. So it started off with my flow. I've only got one flow. So it doesn't actually show me any others and I can click on this and go to work. But there's no way of getting to that login screen. OK? Because we're starting at the home page, we're already logged in, we're pretending so close it down. So we need another flow to create another flow. Let's click on this first page here and I'm gonna start uh flow from this point. OK? So this one's not gonna be called flow and it's gonna be called login. And it just means now when I go to my prototype, OK, reset, no, click this one. There it is. OK. I've got two kinds of flows. So I could be showing somebody and if they know what they're doing, they could say you could say look, there's two flows on the left, you can start which one you wanna go to. OK? Because they don't really connect. There's no way of kind of jumping across these two. So they're just, you could have multiple phones log in, maybe the cancellation screen, maybe the like how to change your user profile, how to reset a password. You have lots of different flows. If your um you know your prototype's getting quite big. So that's what flows are for. You can actually do some cool stuff. Like you can actually just start prototyping from hitting play rather than hitting up this one where it's unsure where you wanna start. You can say actually start from the login screen, please. OK? Or this one here start from this e-commerce flow. You can do a little bit more. You can see over here, there's not much going on so we can go nothing selected be on prototype, find my flow. You can click on it. No, you click on it here. You can add a description. I can't remember where. Oh, there it is. OK? So I've got it selected here and you can see this is a little pencil here in a description and you can say uh this is how to purchase the headphones. You can add quite a bit into the description. OK? And this might be uh this includes the updates from Doug Go so that when people are prototyping it, let's say the log in, they can see the screen and you can see this includes the updates from Doug. You get the idea go, you can close it down. Now I find that is probably I don't know, it's a little bit hidden over there. So what you can do is you can actually go to. So if I click off in the background, see these, there's this option that says, see there's a little link, you can copy that link and all it is is if I just type, it's just a URL, big long, ugly URL, but you could put that into an email. OK? And say, hey, Dave, this is the one I want you to um check. And what will happen is he'll go exactly to this login page. You just got one file, OK? But Doug or Dave or whoever's looking at the login responsible for the login can go straight there or maybe you've got an email with a couple of different links like hey check out the e-commerce flow here it is. Hey, check out the login here it is and just give them two separate links rather than trying to explain that you go into here and then click on this little thing that looks like a a box with a rectangle. Uh Just click the links. All right. That is why you have flows and you have probably flow three and flow 17. Just kind of like hanging about. All right. So that is it for flows. Um Yeah. Useful. Great when you rename them. Great. When you get a really big prototype going. All right. That is it, I will see you in the next video
