Class Introduction
today we are going to be talking about practical photo shop basics. And what does that really mean? Well, let's dive right into it. So we're gonna be talking about Photoshopped fundamentals. So what does that? I mean, essentially, we're gonna cover all the good things that make Photoshopped photo shop. So we're a little bad things like layers. We're going to talk about adjusting exposure, color correction, working with type, um, making selections, all of those things that really give you a good foundation. And then you can take photo shop in whichever direction you want to go. My goal really is to teach you how to do problem solving in photo shop. So this class is less about recipes and, you know, steps of like click here and click here and then do that and more about understanding how Photoshopped thinks how Photoshopped works so that you can solve your own problems in voter shop going forward. So we're gonna be making use of keyboard shortcuts as we go throughout this course, I will ...
call them out. I'll try and remember to call them out all the time. And that's really I remember when I was new to photo shop. I remember reading and hearing about keyboard shortcuts, and I remember specifically thinking, Oh, I'll get good at photo shop and then all fancy I'll get fancy with keyboard shortcut. But the reality is keyboard shortcuts or how you really come to use photo shop so you'll see me using them. I'll call them out, and it's a really good idea to practice them on your own so they just become part of how you use the program. Another thing that where I'm going to do in this course is really to help you be fearless and take away the fear that you might have when you come to photo shop. I know it's an intimidating program if you've ever opened it and just felt like, whoa, close, you are not alone. So I want to take the fear out by teaching you the workspace. So you understand what you're really looking at and where things are and how to find them. So also taking away the fear of what happens when you make a mistake. So I'm gonna show you how really photo shops got your back, and you can really undo ah lot in voter shot very easily. So the idea is that you will not be afraid to experiment. Someone help you be fearless. And throughout the course, we're going to be working on a lot of very practical, real world things. So one of the things will be doing is creating a seamless pattern in this case with these little dandelion bits, and we'll take that pattern and then we'll we'll put it into something and actually mock it up. So we'll go from the actual pattern file to a finished product, in this case, like a shirt. So a lot of practical, real world things as well as some surreal fun, more playful, imaginative things as well as some just downright silly ridiculous stuff because it wouldn't be one of my classes. We didn't do some silly things. So, um, be ready for that. The things that are included with this course are all of the course files. Um, I think, except for three, because I couldn't distribute them for legal reasons. But also included are the links where you can download those three missing files for free. So you are getting all of the course files, so everything that I'm doing in class I created with the idea that you at home would be able to follow along and recreate everything so you can really get some hands on learning. So all the core smiles are included with purchase as well as a few extra things like this, uh, keyboard shortcut guide. So there are a lot of keyboard shortcuts and Photoshopped more than you would ever use. Probably one more than one person could really make You said, I think. But these are some of the very common, very basic sort of fundamental keyboard shortcuts that I've put together on Dive written them out both in text, but also for visual learners who want to see it, like on the keyboard. I've actually created that graphic too. In addition to that, the course also includes a resource guide. So, for example, when we get into working with type and designing text, I will link for you all of the different fonts that I use in the course. So you know, you can obviously use your own. But if you really fall in love with one of them and you want to know where it is or how to get it, you will find links to that little of some other cool resource is and the download links for the files that I couldn't distribute. There's a lot of good stuff included. On top of all of that, I've included a random little assortment of some actions that I have created over the years, mostly kind of around retouching. So there is like a teeth whitening action and I brightening action and some other little things. So that's included. And then I also put together a couple of work files practice files with some hidden bonus content, And I will show you those later in this in this segment, actually, but they're going to require for you to actually get the prize, which includes a free bonus goody download. You have to actually do the practice file, so I'll explain how that works later. But it's a fun little adventure that hopefully will encourage you toe roll up your sleeves and dig in a little bit. So what are you gonna need for this course? Well, you're going to need Photoshopped. Obviously, I'll be working in the latest version of Creative Cloud, but the things that were going to be doing our fundamental, so you don't have to have the most newest version. And people often, I think, get a little freaked out about versions. And I always like to think of it like driving a car like that. You were a teenager who was just getting your license or learning how to drive a car. Um, you may not be learning to drive in the most newest model of a car. It may even be 10 or more years old, who knows? But you could still drive it. So it's the same kind of thing, especially when we're doing these fundamental things. Layers are still layers. Selections are still selections, all that kind of stuff. So don't panic, I guess, is my point there. So half photo shop. If you don't already have it, you can get a free trial from adobe dot com so you can follow along. The other thing that I think is really important is to have an open mind, and the reason for that is when we're learning Photoshopped stuff, some of the examples that we're gonna be doing some of them are silly. Some of them were very practical. Some of them are just silly but they're not silly in just for their own sake of being silly, their silly. Because I wanted to teach certain concepts in one exercise, and in order to do that, we just had to get a little bit silly. So by having an open mind and telling yourself, Hey, I couldn't take what I'm learning here and apply it in these other situations, you're going to get a lot more out of it than if you think, Well, that's silly. Why would I ever need to, I don't know, create a fire apocalyptic zombie scene because we're going to do something like that. But the reality is because you're gonna learn a lot of great skills while you do it. And even if that's not the type of photo shop work that you hope to do or plan to do or or are doing, there are still things you can learn in those examples that can be applied anywhere. And they're just pretty entertaining. So bring your open mind and, of course, a sense of humor. Oh, because photo shops does. It's fun, and we're gonna we're gonna highlight that as we go, so I hope I can make you laugh at least a little bit

What an unbelievable teacher Khara is. I have wanted to learn photoshop forever but was intimidated, overwhelmed, then I watched this course. OMG I learnt so much, more then I imagined. I am so excited now to start using Photoshop, I can't wait to try out everything she taught us. With the skills we learnt over these two days I think this course provides everything I need to know to feel and more. She was outstanding, the absolute perfect teacher for someone who has never ever used Photoshop. Also great moderation by Kenna. Thank you for this awesome, amazing, wonderful course. I am sure anyone who watches this course will agree it is incredible. I couldn't recommend it more. This course was just Smurfy!

I would highly recommend Khara Plicanic's Practical Adobe Photoshop Basics. The name of the class, implies that the class is for beginners, but that's not exactly true. Most of us learn Photoshop by the features we need to know at any given time. As many will agree, there are a number of ways to get to the same end. I can only speak for myself, but... I would bet that many of us don't know all the strategies that are taught in this class! Check it out, I doubt you'd be disappointed! Khara brings a fun and relatable approach to everything she does. She is very entertaining, while being a superb instructor. Last, but not least... This class brings with it a ton of useful bonuses. Warm Regards, Roz Fruchtman aka @RozSpirations
