Selections: Hair and Fur
And finally, when it comes to talking about selections, we have this little fox and he's rather furry. So we're gonna select him with the quick selection brush, just like we've done. And I screwed up a little. So will make the brush smaller with left bracket key. And I'll hold down, alter or option to temporarily get the, uh, minus. You see, even the cursor changes. So now I can just subtract that area, all right, Now that looks pretty good. But if I copy and paste this over, he's gonna look like we cut him out with scissors. It's not going to reflect his furry friends at all. So to address that, we need to come to the select menu and shoes Select and mask. So we did this briefly with the tiger, but I didn't really go into it. So now we'll talk about it a little bit more. So, uh, this allows us to control the selection a little bit and deal with things that require more finesse, like hair for all of that. Um, first of all, you can change the way that the preview show is here. I had per...
sonally used the black and white preview most of the time, but we can change that. We can have it set to overlay weaken, view marching ants, which will not be helpful in this case. So I'm gonna just suggest that you mostly at least for now, stick with black and white. The radius is gonna help photo shop. Basically, be smart about the edges and we're telling it how, How? How far beyond that initial, uh, selection. How far beyond we want this refinement to take place. So basically, you just want to increase this radius until you get the fact that you're looking for here Now, obviously, if you go too far like if I drag way out over here, I'm going to get all kinds of other selection. So the idea is that we just want our little fox to just be white, and we want the detail of his for two to be white and be included. So I think in this case I'll go with the radius of maybe 19 pixels. There's also this option to turn on Smart Radius. It was just helps photo shop, pay a little more attention here and in theory, do a bit of a better job you can. I don't know. In this case, I may just I guess we'll turn it on. We'll leave it on. Ah, In this case, these things aren't going to really apply. We don't want a smoother feather or adjust the edges anymore beyond this, Okay, But when you are making selections and you want to refine them a little bit, this is a place where you can do some of that. It's really handy for the furry situations. So once we have a selection here, that looks pretty good. Um, I think we could weaken. Just click. OK, But I will point out while I'm hearing and zoom in and we see this area of his ear, anything that's black is not gonna be included in the selection. So this would be kind of weird. He'd have, like, a little bit of a whole happening in his ear so we can fix that by coming up here and using these different tools. So in this case, I'm gonna grab the brush tool. And if I just paint, I can paint that area in with white. And so now it will be included. And conversely, if you hold Ault or option you could paint black. But in this case, I only needed to clean up that area so you can clean up your selection as well. Did you have a question? Yes. Up which, Um, in which part? You saw this menu. It's from the layers or is from the top because I lost. This was from So we made an initial selection from select. And then we went to the select menu, and it's right here called Selected and Mrs Yeah. So, um, you start with making a rough selection and then you to that, and I will click. Ok? All right. So we've got got him selected. Now we're gonna copy and paste Commander Control. See, we'll bring him over to this. Where is he going? Hollywood and Commander Control V paste him in. Grab the move tool. I don't remember exactly where I put him something like that, and we could do all those things that we've done. Like you can add a color overlay to help him blend in a little bit more. But also, if we're just going to be funny groups, I guess I position right there. So Hey, I put a few extras in here, and I think there's some type two clips. So, uh, if the types not showing on, just open this extras folder and turn on the type.

What an unbelievable teacher Khara is. I have wanted to learn photoshop forever but was intimidated, overwhelmed, then I watched this course. OMG I learnt so much, more then I imagined. I am so excited now to start using Photoshop, I can't wait to try out everything she taught us. With the skills we learnt over these two days I think this course provides everything I need to know to feel and more. She was outstanding, the absolute perfect teacher for someone who has never ever used Photoshop. Also great moderation by Kenna. Thank you for this awesome, amazing, wonderful course. I am sure anyone who watches this course will agree it is incredible. I couldn't recommend it more. This course was just Smurfy!

I would highly recommend Khara Plicanic's Practical Adobe Photoshop Basics. The name of the class, implies that the class is for beginners, but that's not exactly true. Most of us learn Photoshop by the features we need to know at any given time. As many will agree, there are a number of ways to get to the same end. I can only speak for myself, but... I would bet that many of us don't know all the strategies that are taught in this class! Check it out, I doubt you'd be disappointed! Khara brings a fun and relatable approach to everything she does. She is very entertaining, while being a superb instructor. Last, but not least... This class brings with it a ton of useful bonuses. Warm Regards, Roz Fruchtman aka @RozSpirations
